What's the main advantage of using track folders instead of track grouping, when mixing?
@alpercizmeci40393 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial. It was very helpful
@musaire4 жыл бұрын
I'm more interested in how does Reaper process the sound of the child tracks - does it add/mix it together exactly the same as for bus, using the same math? I'm asking this because I don't know where to put my airwindows channel and bus plugins...
@GuilleTrejo4 жыл бұрын
In a bus, you send a duplicate of the signal. In a folder, you just send all the child tracks to a parent track, but there's no "duplication".

Man this is so good. I've been using Reaper for a year now as my first and only experience with a daw, and never knew you could utilize it in this way, which makes SO much sense wow. Quick question: Is there any difference between busses and folders in Reaper?
@jflory0207 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering if there a way in the mixer to show let's say folders only for 3 but one folder like drums see all the individual tracks even if they are in a folder

So, what's the difference between using a Folder o create a Buss, if you can achieve the same thing? Right? Anyway. This series is opening my mind on how many things you can do with Reaper.
@korpze2063 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. Folders can't achieve parallel processing but organize better idk
@jaytee50182 жыл бұрын
Maybe late with this answer. If you need to parallel process use a bus. If you want to affect multiple tracks at the same time without duplicating signal use a folder.
@jaytee50182 жыл бұрын
You can do the same with a bus but you will have to disable tracks from the master. Convenience with faster workflow to use a 📂

Hi Kenny. When I right-click below an indented track in the mixer, I get a totally different menu starting with various insert operations. I have v6.47 and don't know how to get the menu that you show in order to show only folder tracks. Am I doing something wrong?
@smoidysound14692 жыл бұрын
Lets say you have a bunch of tracks in a folder and you have effects sends on those individual child tracks. When you lower the parent track volume, the effect sends stay the same volume level. How do you make it so that the parent track lowers everything including the effect send volume from individual child tracks?
@dangdrjay30112 жыл бұрын
Route the sends to the parent and it will act as bus for the effects (sends) only

Coming from Cakewalk. So the whole signal of the child tracks are all sent to the folder, then to the master track? Or are folders still parallel processing with a non parallel level control? Thank you. Your videos are a great help.

So when i put my guitar tracks into a folder (2 guitar tracks- double tracked guitars panned hard left and hard right) but when I put them into one folder to use as a bus for compression and eq, the track that’s panned hard right doesn’t make a sound when I solo it. The guitar track panned hard left seems to be mostly normal, although some of its audio still comes out of the left speaker it seems. But none from the guitar track panned hard right in any of the speakers, but when I bring it’s panning to the center I gradually hear the volume turn up. Why can’t I hear it when it’s panned hard right and put into a folder with another track? Any help would be much appreciated.
@nibblrrr71243 жыл бұрын
Huh, that's odd! I suspect that the routing on the folder track (either the whole track or one of its FX) has been messed up. Try creating a new folder track without FX, and dragging all the individual guitar tracks into that. Does that fix it? If not, does any guitar track have any active sends? (You don't need a send to the parent folder!) If that did fix it, try copying over the folder FX one by one. If one of them causes the problem again, inspect its routing matrix (click the button on top that says "X in Y out" or something similar, X & Y being numbers) and make sure all the blocks on the diagonal are black (active), and no others are. What you describe really shouldn't happen unless you accidentally messed with the routing manually. Hope that helps.

i think it's a bit annoying that there is no way to simply fold and unfold a folder on mixer window. it's either all the child tracks, or none. really do find this confusing tbh
@somebodyelseuk3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this used to be possible. I've been using the v3 skin since... well, version 3. You can/always could collapse individual mixer folders. Recently, trying the default v6 skin, can't do it, it seems... Maybe there's an action for it? EDIT: Right click empty space in the MCP, about halfway down the menu, there's the option to add a button.

Thanks Kenny. What's the difference between folder tracks and bus tracks?
@Artek6045 жыл бұрын
Other than the visual aspect (indentation) I *think* Folder tracks always act as a bus and tracks within it do not send signal to the Master and go to Folder post-fader, whereas with Bus track you have much more freedom regarding the routing destinations and place in the chain where signal is tapped.
