There's no Nazi Dark Side here. This car was built under the administration of the British Army and Major Ivan Hirst. Starvation and malnutrition in post war Germany was a big issue. This car fed and clothed the people who stayed at the factory because there was no where else to go. The materials for this car were likely obtained through the barter system - they traded some of the Beetles for steel, coal, glass etc. This car helped lead Germany into a peaceful future of Democracy.

And what "dark side" was before that? Adolf Hitler hired Ferdinand Porsche to design an affordable car for the German people, based on mass production concepts perfected by Henry Ford. Considering how much Nazi technology we later stole (er, borrowed) and recycled, perhaps that's the darker side.

Me, as a german, vw enthusiast and owner has to admit, that you realy got a lot of KDF details in this early VW. Like the stampt old kdf VW sighn on the dashboard and the kdf style horns on the bumper. They have been used, because in was easier to reuse the old stamps. Combined with the lag of gloss in the paint does it realy got a look of a kdf type vehicle, which never existed that way. I think that was in his mind, as he sad so. Great greetings.

The Wolfsburg factory certificate will tell you the original owners and specifications. Don't be dumb and think it was sold in an Australian VW dealership as RHD in 1946.
@jaiewhitham6010
@jaiewhitham6010 Ай бұрын
There was no vw dealership in Australia back then, this exact car and another were sold to the Australian military to see if this would be a possibility to use for our military. An agreement wasn't met and they were auctioned off. 1 has gone missing and this was found on an island off Tasmania. 1954 was the first year we had private legitimate vws sold in Australia, i believe we had 15 complete vehicles ordered and sold I think under the rover dealership. Following that we got the ckd in early 55 which were 54 build models because we had a 6 month delay. I can't remember what year but I don't think we had a vw dealership until 55 or 56. Our ckd vehicles were assembled by a 3rd party company which was a coach builder and we slowly started implementing local parts like batteries and tyres until we progressed into full production, parts that were manufactured here had a kangaroo either stamped or embedded into the parts.

I do believe it should stay in Australia because of its history, I've read up about the two that were commissioned here for possible use with our military. It belongs here and i hope it stays.

Not sure why they made it look like a Kommandeurswagen. Those were not produced after 44. This isnt a "KDF" car, so although it is number matching, I wonder what it TRULY looked like before "restoration". Also changing it from RHD kind of hurts its originality and the whole "numbers matching" thing. I can only imagine the insane inflated price this is going to have on it...
@e-curb
@e-curb 25 күн бұрын
The Kom'wagen had the 7" wide wheels with Schwimmer tires, and wider fenders with 4 wheel drive. The car above is built to look like a wartime Typ 82e. The wartime tires are wrong for a 46. Also wrong is the cog logo pressing in the dash to the right of the speedo. You can see at 6:00 in the video that this part of the dash had been hacked out. For a car of this caliber, this is an amateur mistake.
