This is scary! German BR85 2-10-2 Tank Engine Model Railway Review | HO Scale

In this video we take a look at a 2-10-2 tank engine. What a beast of a locomotive this is and Marklin have produced this as their catalogue number 3308 (in their Hamo range its number 8308).
I'll show you this steam engine up close and give a review of this model train item.
I'll also make a recommendation if you should consider buying model train items from the Marklin Hamo model railway range.

Absolutely fantastic model for its age. As it is at the very least 27 years old, but more likely closer to 40 years old, I'm not surprised there are some issues. Its always buyer beware when buying second hand models. This one could date from as far back 1985 based on the packaging it is in and the couplers. More recent versions didn't have the huge lifting loops, just the lower section. Marklin dropped the Hamo brand for their 2 rail models when they bought Trix in 1997, after that the 2 rail models were sold under the Trix brand.

Worth checking if something is blocking the articulation as the model should go around at least R2 possibly even R1 - Marklin were built for compact layouts. Maybe run it with the body off again - They were very much built to be used

The couplers have adapters to fit Fleischmann hook couples. They are attached by those split pins. If they are removed, you are left with a regular Märklin coupling hook, which is compatible with most European hook and loop couplers.

Original 10 built 1932-33 only one survived WW2. Designed for passenger and goods but also used as a pusher in the mountains. Replaced rack locos in the Black Forest. I was thinking there may be a need to lubricate the transfer driveshaft as there is a need for it to slide on articulation of the front drive wheels.

Id be surprised if it couldn't handle R2 or even R1 curves, as it is just a Marklin model, who at that stage were still turning out M track R1&2 curves. I suspect the couplers vould be replaced with smsller more modern version, most of the post 2000 catalogs give part numbers for fitting close couplers to all items.
