Throughout NF's discography we learn that he feels trapped by is burdens. His burdens being Anger, Fear, and Regret. That he is trapped in a cage which is Pain. We also know that he holds the keys. There are 3 keys on the ring. Hope, Joy, and Happiness. Even though he holds the keys he is still feels lost. He is still Searching for Hope. Hope will lead to Joy, and Joy will eventually lead to true Happiness. Once NF finds true Happiness that will ultimately lead to the 7 letters or Freedom from all of his Burdens. Also shatter my perception, the name of his last album and so there's also a play on the industry and freedom from the label.

I agree with your assessment of this song. You picked up more in this songs than most reactors ever do and I appreciate it because this is a top 3 nf track for me. Although I'd say it's more of a cry for help because he doesn't wanna be suicidal. "They just want me hurt, don't want me to live, don't want me alive"

All of our negative thoughts are just thoughts and when you can seperate the emotion from the thought your perception is shattered. How you view yourself is not the highest truth. The truth is you are human. He wants himself to let go of his high standards for himself. That was my view and it really shattered my perception haha

9:49 literally NAILED it. He’s talking about his “demons” aka his burdens in his mind that keep him hostage. He talks about “you promised me protection but I don’t feel protected “ because like in Mansion, he said that there was a door he wouldn’t open and he said “is that me or the fear talking” basically saying that his mind controls his emotions and he doesn’t know which way to go. He’s out of the cage but he’s scared of being vulnerable

Not only is it his hope for freedom from his burdens and negative emotions he plays heavily into his wants to escape his OCD that’s the perfection he mentions and want for freedom a need to do things without that burden playing into his thoughts

The seven letters are difficult to really get. Could either be freedom or suicide. He mentions freedom in the beginning of the song and you'll hear it in other songs. BUT...... suicide fits in this song (context) as well. It was a dark time for him around this time and either can fit .

From the song CHANGE... "I need a moment of silence I don't like change, but I'll try it I don't wanna hear what I should or I shouldn't do Why are they always defiant? See, all my emotions are liars All my emotions are violent They don't want freedom to find me Mention a name and everybody riots" In this, at 3:20??, he says, "I just want control, I feel so exposed, liars in my home" and then goes on to say not to provoke them and there's a noose around his soul etc. After listening through this several times, I just had a different feeling about it and I think he's talking about several of his emotions. I used to feel like it was only one, but I couldn't figure out which one. I think it's like he's talking TO himself in the mirror... but maybe, specifically, his self-doubt. Loved your reaction... really had your mind going, right?! 7 letters could be FREEDOM? CHANGED?

Sometimes I wonder if NF has a 'Peterpan complex'... He was raised more by music than his parent/s. (Pan flute) Often seems like he wished he could fly away to safe places... His Mom's x-boyfriend Jonny was his version of Captain Hook.... Nate feels he is defending those OUTCAST lost children that needed someone to stand up to the 'Alligators' in their closets... NF starts this song walking the plank with his hands tied.... wonders 'Is he a good person or a 'lost boy'... He takes us on an amazing yet treaterous journey towards becoming the 'man'he needs to be while saving others who follow him for guidance... Nate is off like a shooting star.... by conquering his fears 'in a game this cut throat.. he don't carry sword low''... He never drinks yet he lives in these bars... From the past he's been mourning... a star shining bright as a warning... as he triumphantly shouts.... "Second to the right, ....... and straight on till morning." ;)

11:04 he has talked about suicide before in his songs but I don’t think it’s more so about himself. I think he mainly just talks about trauma and what other people go thru. But in the lyrics “pick up my weapon, aim in your direction, shoot at my reflection” I think he’s talking about more-so about his mind and trying to “kill” his inner self than suicide itself.

I didn't even know this one so we reacted to this one together.. All of his songs are so relatable and meaningful, it's why NF is my favorite artist because no matter what the song is about you can always relate to a certain part of it or more so you feel connected

I noticed in the beginning you were confused who he was referring too when he used somewhat ambiguous terms as well as in his other song hope. I truly can relate word for word here so I want to share my opinion that I’m pretty certain is right 😊Most of the time he’s talking about himself. Like when he says “I should let you go just leave me alone” he’s referring to himself. Like how in his song “intro III” he talks to himself. It is like a “shadow” version. “Everyone has a dark side.” He does this in many of his songs. He sees his pain as almost alter egos separate from who he is. Freedom has 7 letters and he said “7 letters that I’ve been looking for” right after he said “I pray to God and ask if hopes real because if it is, we haven’t met still” then he goes on to say that there’s a blade in his chest and asked “who put it there” he then proceeds to respond with “I think they did it” talking about his burdens and like you said, fear. He said he’s out of the cage now but basically where does he go from there… let me go and “leave me alone” are both talking about his burdens (like the black balloons symbolize on the album cover) the whole Search album is talking about his burdens
