@@lisaerl Ballerinas are usually extremely lean with basically close to zero body fat, as their life is an extreme workout from age 3 to late forties-fifties, even after, as they are usually teaching. But skilled, very slim ones are typically, who are the most successful on stage, because of their ability to perform, and also the stereotype. The look of one’s body is not necessarily telling the age, skilled and experienced ballerinas can do amazingly at any age in fact. Ballet is almost an extreme sport. It’s just esthetically and culturally different. But unbelievable in every aspect. In my opinion.

I know we're supposed to be accepting and supportive of dancers, including ballerinas of all sizes and even men who want to wear tutus but what I want to see when I watch a ballerina is exactly as you described. My mom was a ballerina when she was young and she danced on toe and tap and she had the look as you described. It requires incredible discipline and dedication. :)
