It's pronounced like Shy-enne (I live there.) Can't say as I've ever seen this game, but the modeling looks really good. That's the UP Depot downtown and looks very realistic. Actually it's flat leaving Cheyenne, then gets more mountains towards Laramie. Kind of curious if they have coal trains that leave Gillette, WY and head southeast...those trains can be a couple miles long.

What an awesome Train simulator. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is across the river from Detroit. I’ve got some cool video footage of the “CP Rail Freight Trains” going in & out of the Windsor/Detroit River Tunnel which is really cool & very rare to witness obviously. I’ve got both day time & night time footage of the “CP Rail Freight Trains” tunnel footage. I’ve also got a bit of “CN Rail Snow Plow” footage up north in Ontario,Canada in which is amazing to witness especially at crossings where they will normally have 2 “CN Engines” pushing the orange “CN Snow Plow” & sometimes the snow ❄️ is like powder & you can’t even see the Train come flying through the intersections & the guy in the plow has to pull in his plow wings at crossings. I have a few video’s of a “CN Streamliner Engine” doing snow ❄️ plow work as well. Anyways Cheers From 🇨🇦 🚂

Note: If you apply automatic brake AND still want dynamic brake just release the independent brake and hold it on bail off until it gets to 0.1 then dynamic will work again with automatic brake applied.

If you don't want to wait forever for your Air to charge Leave the Reverser in Neutral and set the Throttle to notch 1. They are simulating compressor charge rate with throttle position.

Speeding up the engine doesn't change how fast the train charges. You have a max flow rate into the brake pipe and you can't change that

The dynamic brake has a maximum strength at a certain speed, but loses that power as you go faster. If you find yourself thinking you'll need air, then you will eventually need it. You can use both at the same time, but you need to bail off the independent.

I don't know what speed that happens to be on the ACe, but from my understanding of AC locomotives, you can get full braking effort down to near 0MPH. 2 or 3 is where it starts fading iirc. DC locomotives (they show amps instead of tractive effort in klbs) behave very differently and have most of their effectiveness down to around 20-25, but I haven't checked lately.

Its weird the game doesnt let you use dyno and auto brake at the same time. Its 100% done in real life. The key is you must always kick off the automatic brake before the dyno as taking the dyno off first can cause hard run ins or in bad cases cause you to get a knuckle. Love the vids!

Im pretty sure dynamic brake isn't power diverted to the engine from the traction motors. Its actually diverted to a giant set of resistors and heat sinks on top of the train my friend. What u are probably hearing is the heat sinks working ther ass off to keep the resistors from burning up

Ok when you complete a timetable service, or scenario the first time, there are points and medals. The second completing the same run , it doesn't award medals. just some points. Do I need to setup a dovetail account to get the ratings, or is it the first that only gets ratings/medals?

In real life if your brake pressure is at 0 it means your train is in emergency. Realistically if you get on a train that is tied down the brakes should be charged and set to 70 ibs.

I THINK how Dynamic Brakes actually work is- the devices that drive locomotive wheels are actually giant electric motors (the diesel fuel just turns a giant motor that generates electricity that is sent to the traction motors). The dynamic brakes "reverses the polarity" of the traction motors to "generate" electricity instead of use it; the electricity "generated" becomes heat, basically like using a giant magnet to slow the train down. The reason the independent brake needs to be bailed off is because running dynos at the same time as brakes will generate enough heat to either melt the wheels or set the track on fire.

No, dynamic braking doesn't heat the wheels up. In real life the locomotive will yell at you for not bailing because the combined braking forces of the motor and the brake shoes might cause the axle to lock up. I probably don't need to explain to you why that's not a good thing. If the wheel somehow could get hot enough to set steel track on fire, it would first expand so much that it wouldn't be frozen to the axle anymore. They're not cast onto the axle but just friction fit on.

I like to jump into train sims, however, I have two questions. 1. What gear do you use to steer and operate the train? 2. This is most important. Does your gear allow for force feedback? In our racing sims we get force feedback on our steering wheel. Do you get this in Train sims?

I know I am super late to the party on this video but I noticed on my playthrough that I kept failing over and over. I finally got annoyed and checked an actual online manual for the locos and realized the game never set up my other locos to "slave" the lead car and help push/pull. Once I did a set up on all the engines I was going about 20 up a decent grade.

That is pretty realistic. Your break pipe should be 75+ on the tail end before you leave, it has nothing to do with the power up the hill and everything to do with your train brake.

Ok a few things I was an “engineer” not train driver for 11 years on the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific! Next I operated dynamic brakes and automatic brakes all day every day. This was in the 1980’s one would think they still work together. The only limitation was dynamic brakes would “drop off” below 3 miles per hour and as the engineer you had better be ready for that. Also I handled 18 thousand tons and above on a regular basis. You don’t start off in throttle 3 or 4 unless you plan to rip the train in two pieces. Beyond that you do a good job, I think you need to get a better understanding of real train handling.

They actually aren't like that at all. Dynamic brakes do not provide "thrust" rearward, or direct thrust to the rear. Instead of using electricity to generate rotational motion while in throttle, they become electrical generators which send electrical energy into a resistor grid which creates resistance and heat. Simplified, this creates a retarding force through electrical resistance, until rotation of the traction motors stops, but it does not apply thrust. You can't use dynos to move in reverse, for example.

In real life, trains are longer because of corporate greed, and nothing else. The longer the trains, the fewer crews (and less fuel) that are required to run them, saving companies money. 4 trains takes 4 crews, versus one long train requiring one crew between crew change points.

You can graduate the dynamic brakes, but with the auto brake you must fully release them before taking another set. Meaning you can skin the dynamics back when the grade levels out for a little bit.

Hello new here just started watching was going to ask but just answered myself you're Not going by the "I think quote" real life railroaders don't think we know. Trivia question 3:30 given you have a Rear DPU Helper power doesn't that give off its own braking effort? Good thing this game isn't realistic because going into Notch 4 from dead start 4:55 on Tangent Track would mess up the Locomotive Traction Motors and that's just the loco Not going into Freight in real life, understood going to get a lot of hate but if you're going to name your game "Simulator" get it right the first time. Nice game has it, is it Real NO not at all Arcade style mixed with a little real but more Arcade. Physics are all wrong. Railroads in real life do a lot that DTG don't show or have in game, example before leaving Said yard either crew change, or new train all get an FRA safety brake and walk test before leaving said yard. Railroad Mainline Units run with more power than they need or have for other reasons as they can stop and power up another offline unit to add more power or braking as a single unit by itself SD40-2 can push pull No Joke 82 Freight cars by itself reason why locomotives are grouped together is to stretch out distributed it self-making its mass power larger. Reasons why Slugs are mostly used in yards because of low center of gravity and can crawl at speeds of 5mph pushing 200 cars easy.

There's no way in hell I should have to dam near use al of my air going downhill on Sherman with a 1.5-1.8% grade and only 2800ft . Compared to Run8 I can easily go down Cajon with a 7000ft 11000ton train with a 2 or 3% grade. Dovetail still needs to learn how trains work.
