I just want to put this out there for anybody considering an Antelope Audio device. I've been using their Zen Go for a few years now and it has been my daily workhorse in the studio. It has never let me down and the quality is higher than every other interface I've tried. I have often compared the quality of my raw mic audio against friends who use the Apollo Twin and honestly, it's a night and day difference to my ears. I often receive compliments on the quality of the audio I deliver from these preamps. So if that's anything to go by, then these new updated preamps in the Quadro must be insane! I love buying new gear and I keep trying to convince myself to move over to other brands but at the end of the day, I would just be wasting money.

@@MokkaMusic I don't know. The Antelope has better converter dynamic range than the current Audients. The software does not appear to be worse; in fact the mixer seems more user friendly. I have an Audient iD22 and like it, but I'm not sure it's better overall.

Hi Mike, thanks for the great video. I just have one question for you and I'm hoping you'll be able to help me. How much of a hassle is it to initially set up this audio interface with your computer (Mac)? That seems to be the main issue people have with Antelope audio interfaces. It doesn't seem to be plug-and-play according to reviews. How does the Quadro fare in this regard?

I was planning on upgrading my Audient ID14 mkII for an ID24 just so I could bypass the preamps (for a Jensen Twin Servo preamp). Can you patch in another preamp and bypass the interface's internal preamps with a line in selector? If that's the case I'll save some more pennies for better headphone setup and high gain preamps for ribbon mics.
@charleshuguley93238 ай бұрын
It doesn't appear you can. It's not a deal unless you can commit to the onboard preamps.

I have the Antelope ZenQ TB, a great interface, which has probably the same converters. It was a bit tricky to get it work with my Mac, but that could be solved with a real good telephone support (so for me it‘s not true what @jeanyague says, they do have a great support). And this one might be the best for your money you can buy. I would buy it if I hadn‘t got the ZenQ already because of the built and sound quality, the endless possibilities, the look, …, everything is professional! Also your presentation video about it! 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

Yes! Drives me crazy that most audio interfaces don't have on/off buttons!
@brokki8 ай бұрын
@@NeuroPete Why do you need a dedicted on off button?
@NeuroPete8 ай бұрын
@@brokki I want but don't need an on/off button. I can always do what everyone else does and and either leave it plugged in all the time, or unplug it when I am not using it. For a USB powered device, leaving it plugged in drains my laptop battery and many have a bright light that would annoy me in my bedroom. Some interfaces, like my Arturia AudioFuse 2, generate a noticeable amount of heat, which is bad in our increasing hot summers. The AudioFuse is doubly annoying that way because for full features, it uses a separate power adapter, but can switch to USB power when the adapter is not connected. Also, although the power usage of most audio interfaces is tiny, I dislike having anything that is continuously lit up when it is not in use. As for plugging and unplugging the interface each time, that is not much more hassle than using a power button, but I am mildly concerned about wear and tear on the ports, especially on the laptop. My current solution is a Kensington SD5700T, one of the few Thunderbolt 4 Docking Stations with a power button! It probably uses power even when powered off, but at least it is not draining power from the laptop, and I can disconnect from keyboard, mouse, monitor, midi controllers, and audio interface with one cable.

Can you print the reverb, or is it only for monitoring?
@foolaround8 ай бұрын
you can print it if you use the loopback channels and record them. The loopback takes the stereo out from the mixer and you can add reverb to the channels inside the mixer
@rombsix8 ай бұрын
@@foolaround - hmmm, even though there's no routing matrix on the Zen Quadro? Have you tried this yourself on the Zen Quadro and it worked (without using a DAW)?
@foolaround8 ай бұрын
@@rombsix yeah sure, you can route the Loopback mix and record it in your DAW, it summs all the channels in the mixer with effects, reverb, volume and pan into 2 stereo tracks and you can record those tracks inside your DAW. The routing happens inside the software control panel only
@rombsix8 ай бұрын
@@foolaround - Let me try to explain my use case. I am currently using Steinberg UR44C for live-streaming. It comes with a control panel where you can apply all the effects (including reverb) in real-time directly from the control panel. I then have the "live-stream mix" driver output of the audio interface go into OBS to stream live with all the effects (including reverb) and *not* use a DAW. So again, I am *not* using a DAW. I watched all the videos about the Zen Quadro and and watched all the Antelope videos about recording with reverb. All the Zen Quadro videos say the reverb is only for monitoring. All the Antelope Audio videos about recording with the reverb talk about either having to use a routing matrix (not included in the Zen Quadro control panel, but rather in the control panel of the Zen Tour, for example) or having to use a DAW. Nobody says that you can record with reverb *without* using a control panel routing matrix and *without* using a DAW. So after reading all of the above, you still think that I can record the reverb for live-streaming via the Zen Quadro only using its control panel (and no DAW) in the process?
@foolaround8 ай бұрын
@@rombsix it doesn't matter if we are talking about a DAW or OBS, it's the exact same thing:) you route the Loopback mix to the first two virtual inputs, in OBS the inputs are the same as any DAW, so short answer is yes - you can record or stream with reverb and all the rest of the effects with OBS

Bollocks. I’ve owned and used Antelope interfaces for years and their CS service has been nothing short of spectacular. Many of the gripes about Antelope that you’ll read in forums is from novice to intermediate level users who don’t completely understand how to use what they’ve purchased or did not do their research to pair an interface with a particular computer. Especially off the shelf laptops and AIO computers that can’t run any interface efficiently. Other than the Synergy line, Antelope build professional grade products that pro users have zero issues with for the most part. All kinds of things can destabilise integration and often it’s the end user who gets on a forum, talks a bunch of nonsense about a builder and it’s usually their ineptitude and inability to take responsibility for their poor decisions in putting a system together. This Synergy class interface line gives the less experienced users a great option to grow into. To my ears they are nowhere near the same class as their pro products, but most people looking at this are likely still developing their listening skills and won’t notice. Folks need to get in to their retailer and try this stuff first hand and less reliance on gossip and conjecture from incompetent end users. YMMV ✌️

I've been using the Zen Go on Mac and PC for about 3 years now and it has served me well. I can't speak for others of course but for me it has provided me with super high quality and reliability. I think the days of unreliability are far in the past for Antelope Audio but there will be some people here and there with a faulty device...but then Universal Audio also has occassional problems.
