Mammories/memories! Ha! Although I like Dolly, I have never been a super fan and - like you - have a limited repertoire of songs including the three you mentioned and this one. Miley Cyrus - Dolly’s god daughter - has also done a version of Jolene. Very poignant lyrics.

Dolly's not just a brilliant singer and entertainer, but a fantastic songwriter, as well. In fact, she's one of the most prolific writers, ever, with thousands of songs in her books, and more number 1 and top 10 songs than I could even start to list. How you've managed to miss her more than five decades of smash hits, 'til now, dumbfounds me.

You reminded me of when this Italian singer who did annual talent shows here when i was barely 18 we will say.. had me sit next to him as he sang Occhi Blu and each time he sang that part the camera would zoom in lol got recognized by a few Italians in my neighborhood when they played it on some Italian TV show 🙄

Dear Barry☘️. You’re cheeky today😂. Jolene is one of my favorite Dolly Parton songs. I’d seen her perform this song on TV, the visual of her expressions heightened the emotional impact of the song. Please find Miley Cyrus’s (Dolly’s goddaughter) version of this song, it has a rawness. Miley has grown so much as a singer, she might not have a wide vocal range but her treatment and delivery of songs are always surprisingly good. Thank you for this wonderful review of Jolene💕 love this ride on the Barry Bus.

Barry my babe... Did you know Dolly wrote & performed "I Will Always Love You" a song she closed every night at the ending of her TV variety show. It was a huge hit. Later. 20 years later... the beautiful Whitney Houston asked Dolly if she could use Dolly's song for a film she'd be staring in called "The Bodyguard" with World known actor Kevin Costner... Who happen to grow up near me through his first major TV film "The Untouchables" co-starring with Sean Connery, who has Acted in the movie "Indiana Jones an the Last Crusade" as Harrison Ford's dad.. Harrison Ford started his acting career in Country Western TV shows where he met Dolly Patton & who at the time was just starting her reign as Country Music's top star, and loved the Country Western singer Dolly. Doesn't it sound like (Six Degrees Of Separation)... Anyway, would you please react to Dolly's own song, and original version of "I Will Always Love You" then fast forward 30 years and listen to Whitney Houston's cover of the song that ended up with a Grammy for the movie " The Bodyguard" "I Will Always Love You" If you heard the backstory of this song Dolly wrote... I promise, it'll bring you to tears Dolly's amazing tender rendition. Then Whitney's beautiful perfection Rock Version. 💋🙏✨

She wrote Jolene in 1974 along with I Will Always Love You, both on the same day!!! True story, they always had to go into their bank and Jolene worked in it and had her eyeballs on her husband Dean!! Since you know I Will Always Love you by Dolly and Whitney. Barry, please check out one of the famous KPOP stars, her name is "AILEE", her version of I Will Always Love You will blow your socks off!!!

Dolly being worth abut 600 million dollars is greatly loved in America. Like so many of us here, she is of Irish and Scot/Irish roots. Like Dolly, when our ancestors came here, we headed to the Appalachian Mountain range. We came from very poor families but became the backbone of this nation. She was raised in a one bedroom cabin with her parents and several siblings. Millions flock to her Dollywood Entertainment Park every year and enjoy the Great Smokey Mountains surrounding it. Good reaction.

It's me Barry of course ! I tended to hang with soul /R&B/funk and definitely Stevie Ray Vaughn. I do recall as a kid seeing Dolly on tv . Willie is just a cool guy . It might just be me but some of the Appalachia sounds and ballads appear to be old Irish influenced .

In Germany this song is a very well-known song, because the german band the Boss Hoss made a cover-version of it a few years ago. It really has a quite catchy melody. Waiting for your next Dimash reaction... :)

Dolly's been around a long time, has quite a catalog. Here's a live version of Coat of Many Colors, from over 40 years ago. She should get an award just for her guitar work with those long nails, to say nothing of her actual vocal delivery. She also duetted with Kenny Rogers. And trioed with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Lot of stuff you could dig up. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWLde62oYtCKqas

Dolly is a great singer but an even greater song WRITER and she very graciously allowed Whitney to use it...and was thrilled that Whitney made it into a hit. But that's Dolly..very generous with her talents and her money in national emergencies.

Barry I'm gob smacked that you haven't heard this before! It was released in 1974 so yes she was much younger. I love the eastern lilt in the song. I think aside from the Beatles etc she was one of the first. She says she owes a lot to the real Jolene as she has made her a ton of money. As an aside around the same time as Dolly wrote this she also wrote I will always love you. She said that she found the old original tape with both songs on it so they were written around the same time. As an aside Elvis wanted to record I will always love you but the Colonel wanted half the publishing rights and Dolly said no and as she says that turned out to be the right decision though I would have loved to hear Elvis' version. Take care and keep looking into the camera whilst your reacting I find it very ero**c. LOL :)

This was a favorite of mine growing up. My great grandparents arrived from Scotland in the mid 1700’s to the Cape Fear area in NC and settled in the Appalachians, not unlike Dolly’s family. She’s a perfect example of the best ideas of what the American Dream once represented. (Not so much anymore, sadly...) Anyway, thanks for the wonderful glimpse back to a better and simpler time. Have a request for you...have you discovered the Philippine artist Morrisette Amon? I have a link....prepare to be stunned The power of this performance, vocally and emotionally, brought me to tears. Okay, I'm back. I listened to 3 clips of Dolly singing Jolene. Her 1975 performance on tv sounds very much like this one. Her later performances weren't quite as fast, but not by a whole lot. I love the one of her at Glastonbury. The security people were in a row on the ground in front of her and they were gettin' in on the show. lol Had to be thousands and thousands of people there. (As an aside, I'm not all that crazy about her plastic surgery which is obvious in that clip.)
