The raccoon in the video is actually the female main character of the game, Stelle. She is canonically very unhinged, a walking meme, and a personification of intrusive thoughts. You’re right that you can interact with trash cans in the game, but we don’t do it for the loot; we do it for the funny commentary the game provides. Anything that can be interacted with in this game will make you at least chuckle at how goofy our main character is. For instance, you might randomly click on a cold metal railing in a snowy area, and suddenly, you’ll unlock a secret cutscene where Stelle impulsively licks it and gets her tongue stuck. Then you’ll have to choose which friend to call for help. It's just that silly! One perfect example of the ongoing meme in Star Rail is the main character's obsession with trash cans. People love the random, funny commentary that comes up when Stelle interacts with them on the first planet, and since then, the developers have made it canon. The MC’s obsession with trash now sometimes appears in quests and events. When there are no trash cans on a different planet, there’s often an equivalent. For example, the manhole lid mentioned in the second half of the video is something you can interact with on the third planet. It’s rare to see an RPG main character this goofy. Every dialogue choice is pure comedy, and even though the story itself is mostly linear, it’s worth picking a silly option just to see everyone’s reactions to our shenanigans.

I don't know myself, but a friend explained the game likes to taunt you the more you search garbage can and gets more and more snarky about how much of a problem you have up to the point of the game giving you an achievement for finding all the garbage cans. I personally like to view it as an allegory for the internet as a whole. I mean, one persons garbage is another's treasure.

I loved this song at Hoyofair, its so good! The song is essentially about the Meme that your character(the Trailblazer) just loves trashcans, on the first planet there are entire dialogues whenever u try to check a trashcan and even other characters sometimes question your sanity. U can even craft a drink from trash that increases your damage but almost kills u. As for Firefly, she more or less becomes your girlfriend in Penacony(3rd planet).

Hoyofair is such a treat every year. I highly recommend checking out both of star rail's hoyofair streams, the one from a week or so ago, and the one from last year. Both were amazing and had a ton of fan songs

You don't even get anything for searching the garbage cans. They're just interactable. And increasingly unhinged.

They did their research, and likely played through the game or at least watched one of the right playthroughs (not every player gets very far along the Path of "trash"). Even the shower at the end is a topical joke (albeit about a different topic entirely). ...I'm in the camp who believes that the increasingly deep and twisty trash can lore of the game isn't just a personal delusion, although at times it may be simply a route by which your character is managing to perceive something hidden to most that may not in fact be best represented by a trash can.
