I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. Hello, great video. My comeback lure for this year was a jig head grub. It fishes well in creeks and ponds, it fishes all levels of the water column, and fish never see it anymore. I found an old bin full of 3” and 4” grubs and had a blast. My favorite was the fall season, fishing it weightless like a buzz bait! You could see the wakes coming after it. Peace.

You're definitely not wrong man I had a jerkbait on my front deck all year long. So much so I bought a new jerkbait rod and I'm in the process of building 1 more along with rehabbing my older jerbait rod just so I can have more then 1 at the same time on my deck. I've caught a ton of fish on a jerkbait in my life but I never really liked throwing one... but I feel like I really learned this bait much better this year and kind of learned to love throwing it more.

The 70 and 80 mm jerkbaits work well for me at times, for numbers and size, not to mention other species when they are feeding on small forage. (Fall)

Matt, I agree. I have a tip that might help you or the viewers. A few years ago watching a Elite tournament one angler hooked a bass & it got hung up in a piece of brush. The angler got in the water & used his toe to push the fish off the brush, only if he new this trick. My team partner came up with this method. He found a retractable lure retriever with a small U-shaded tip with a small coil for the line. The trick is NOT to put the line in the coil, just keep tension on the line (in the U area) as you lower it to the fish. This does not work every time but, just once could possibly make you some money in a tournament.

Matt, how do determine when its time to change out treble hooks? And do you sharpen hooks of single hook baits or just buy new baits?

I replace them generally verse sharpening. If they aren’t sticky sharp I swap them

don't like baits with more than 2 trebles. the bass gets 1 in the mouth, 1 in the eye, and 1 in the gills. might as well take it home and eat it after all that.

I was a scrutinere (marshal) here in Ontario Canada 30 years ago and watched closely at all the bait choices, alterations and retrieval techniques the three different anglers had tied up. All three had the same rubber, and until this day is my number one bait, either in a tournament or messing around. I still out fish my younger tournament partner 4-1 and sometimes worse, In side by side.

You’d think the sponsors would love to sell more baits, considering how far, how important sponsors/sponsorships are in this day and age of tournament angling. as well as the multiple ways of creating content surrounding baits, rods and tackle in general.

I started off with a jerkbait as far as hardbaits. It's my favorite lure. Jerkbaits have come a long way. People really do hate me for speaking against Megaass. Version 1 is great if you know what I'm saying, but we are all experts I guess. In Commifornia, it's bad in the winter, but Midwesterners will tell me I am an elite. Yall don't know about jerkbaiting. To understand the Dobyns and more. Comeback will always be my discontinued lipless with tungsten. Anywhere, anytime, any specie of bass. Looking forward to going forward with 10x hover and micro lures like hard swimmybaits. Also want to try other reels and CCP China rods bc we are too deep in catching them 5 pounder rainbows. Not going bfs, just straight spin finessy.
