For anyone that really wants to know what this opening means, I will write an in depth analysis on it. Obviously, huge spoilers for season 2 so please, don’t press read more if you don’t want any spoilers. Anyway here it is. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1:10 : This person shown here is, obviously, the Witch of Greed, Echidona. She’s a big part of season 2, so pay attention to her dialogue. 1:19 : This person shown, is another one of the Witches, who has had her soul collected by Echidona after she was killed by the Satella, and not the Witch of Envy. Although I said there would be spoilers. I don’t wanna spoil this for you so I can leave it up to your imagination. Anyway, this yellow-haired girl is the Witch Of Wrath, Minerva. She has the ability to convert damage and harm into healing, although it exhausts a lot of the worlds mana and power. 1:20 : The next person we see here is, you guessed it, another Witch. This is the strongest of the Witches, even stronger than Satella. Unfortunately, as we already know, she was killed by Satella. This is the Witch Of Sloth Sehkmet (Sekhmet? I’m not sure of the exact spelling) who has incredible strength. I can’t exactly remember her powers, so if you wanna know just look it up. Since the time stamp’s the same, I can’t include a time stamp here. After Sehkmet we are shown the Witch of Gluttony, Daphne. When you do see her in the anime, her appearance will be a little strange. She lies in a coffin, with chains and ropes to restrict her movements. This isn’t because she’s too powerful, however, the true reason is actually because moving uses too much energy. Instead, she traverses about with her spider coffin, which has weird insect-like legs that grow out of the bottom of her coffin. She wears a blindfold because of her eyes. One of her eyes, when she looks at people instantly makes them starve to the point of insanity. One look at Subaru with her eye, and the instant she looked at him he was driven to the point of eating his own fingers without noticing. She was also the one who created the White Whale, Great Rabbit and Black Serpent if I remember correctly. She created these Calamities out of the goodness of her heart however. She believed that the White Whale was so big, it would create so much food for people to eat. And since the Great Rabbit (also known as The Sizeable Hare) can constantly multiply, it is an endless source of food. More on the Great Rabbit later. Also worth noting she is always starving. Next up is Typhon, The Witch Of Pride. This little girl has a childish sense of pride and justice, causing harm to anyone deemed a sinner. Subaru believes he is a sinner, but she reassured him by telling him he was a good boy. She then proceeded to cleanly remove his arm, no pain or blood. Sadly, like all the other witches, this little girl was in fact murdered by Satella. 1:21 : this is the final Witch we are shown Camilla (or maybe Carmilla? Sorry I don’t remember the exact spelling of a few names) This is the Witch Of Lust. She has the power to turn into and take the appearance of loved ones. Also as a side note, all of the witches are in a similar state to Echidona in the sense that while they’re dead, their souls are still here, anchored to the dream world by Echidona. Anyway, we witness this power while Subaru is taking the second trial. He could not over come the trial of “a present that was not meant be,” and was close to his mind being broken. In an attempt to save his mind from breaking, Echidona sends out Carmilla to take the form of someone Subaru loves. She appears in front of Subaru during the second trial, but I don’t wanna spoil any more of that part so I will leave it at that. She’s quite timid and shy, but when she shows her resolve it’s as strong as steel. 1:24 : Subaru is seen wandering in an Earth city. This is actually Japan, more accurately a recreation of Japan. In the first trial he has to see and overcome his past, as seen here where he is back in Japan. He is forced to reconcile with his parents, and let out all his regrets. Although it is all a simulation, it’s essentially real in the sense that he can interact and Echidona has recreated them with such accuracy that there’s essentially no difference. As of 28 of July (or 29th for me and my fellow Aussies and NZ) this episode has yet to release. But this will be episode 4, where he faces his past. This is gonna be sad, so if by any chance someone reads this before the episode comes out prepare your tissues. I cried while reading the web novel. 1:30 : We see Subaru’s mum, just as was predicted in the video. I already explained above why we see her, so this will be nice and short. She is the one that Subaru got his eyes from, and although a little air headed she can still be serious and say sad things. After that we see Subaru’s dad, who is proud of his son, and also admired by Subaru and everyone around him. His dad’s love for Subaru is great, and hence why this episode is so sad because Subaru knows he probably won’t see them again. 1:33 : although a little hard to see, this is Subaru’s past deaths. Although obvious, just saying it because there might be that 1 guy who doesn’t understand. 1:42 : Subaru is surrounded by all the people he has seen or let die. I think this and the scene of him walking past the deaths are another hint towards facing his past, being forced to see the painful truth of all the people that have died because of him. 1:46 : here we see Archbishop Of Greed, Regulus Corneas. But we already knew him from episode 1 so it’s not anything new. Although he doesn’t appear much in arc 4, so I’m wondering if perhaps they will include some arc 5 in this season. 1:47 : Now we see Sin Archbishop Of Gluttony, Lye Batenkaitos (I think that’s the spelling, although once again I’m not sure). He has the ability to steal memories, the existence of people or both as seen with Crusch and Rem. He, just like Regulus, isn’t a big part of arc 4 except for the start. So I’m wondering if arc 5 will be included in this season. 1:48 : This little girl is the one who appeared at the village in season 1 when the Mabeasts/Witch beasts/demon beasts attacked the village. She is named Mei, and is actually somewhat of a comrade to Elsa who has the ability to control Mabeasts. She is a real pain later in the story. 1:49 : This is Elsa from the start of the show, who we thought we would never see again. However, she plays one of the biggest roles in this season so be prepared for that. I don’t feel like spoiling unless I get asked what the details are as its quit a shock when it happens. 1:53 : The shadow seen around him on the ground and in a fog form is, I’m not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure this is when The Witch Of Envy comes to take over Emilia’s body in order to swallow Subaru because he told someone about Return By Death because she couldn’t stop him due to certain conditions. She’s really quite scary, and when the rumours of ‘she can’t understand language’ say she can’t, they’re actually true. So let’s just say she’s a scary inhuman demon thing obsessed with Subaru’s existence, not exactly Subaru himself 2:00 : The person holding onto Subaru from behind is just as you probably guessed, Satella. I’m just going to say this now, I think I ship Subaru x Satella over Emilia. Not Rem tho cos Rem best girl. Anyway, this is most likely Satella, but her speaking to him doesn’t line up with him then dying. I said there would be spoilers but this will be the one thing you really don’t want spoiled so imma leave it there. 2:05 : Subaru sprinting in and dying constantly isn’t exactly what’s happening, it’s more a metaphor that he’s throwing away his life and not caring about it as much as he should because he can Return By Death. 2:14 it’s important to note that the people that are shown from first to last (Emilia) are the people most important to him in that order, with Beatrice, then Rem, then Emilia being his most important people. The Beatrice part is due to him forming a contract with her, and becoming good friends, almost like siblings. 2:30 : we see the previously warned character Garfiel and his sister, Frederica. Nothing really important behind them being shown here. 2:31 : next we are shown all the Lewes clones which were created by Echidona in an attempt to gain immortal life through body hopping. Lewes is another important character, so pay attention to her (them?) as well. 2:32 : we see Beatrice and Puck next to each other, the reason is because they are essentially siblings. They are both artificial spirits created by Echidona. After that scene, we see Beatrice with her hand on a black book. This is the gospel, but it’s different to what you think. The gospel there is one of only two true gospels, owned by her and Roswaal and, created by Echidona. The Witch cult gospels are replicas, with no true accuracy like the perfect gospels. 2:34 : This is a shadowy arm, most likely the Witch of Envy’s. This is probably when she entered the dream world to talk to Subaru and the other Witches. 2:35 : This is the Great Rabbit/ Sizeable Hare I was talking about before. This creature was created by Daphne when she was extremely starving, so it shared that felling when created. It has the ability to constantly multiply, no matter how fast they’re killed they instantly replenish their numbers, and because of their extreme hunger, when they can’t find something to eat they will multiply and cannibalise each other. They have no sense of anything but hunger which drives them insane, like when Subaru at his finger. This concludes my in depth analysis of this OP and my hands hurt, I’ve been writing for a whole hour. Hope this doesn’t flop and someone takes the time to read it all. If you have, congratulations! Just to make it clear, currently there is no Sin Archbishop of Pride, but someone has the Authority of Pride. There doesn't exist an Archbishop of Envy, they are 6 Archbishops not 7 (Technically 5 since Pride is unknown).

2nd OP has the best song but OP 3 has the most touching narrative playing out through the visuals. It really conveys Subaru's regret for the world he left behind and the mistakes he's made along the way coupled with his powerful determination to keep pressing forward for the sake of the people he loves. A lot of people compare Re: Zero to the videogame Undertale thematically and I do think the comparison is apt. Both stories are about repeating events over and over again and mounting the "determination" in the player/mc to persevere for the sake of a happy ending for everyone. They both force the audience to self-reflect on their choices and how their mindset makes them interact with the world and ultimately provides them with a ray of hope for the future, if they just steel their resolve to change.

The blue hair girl with braids was introduced as the Maebeast tamer. She was the little girl who had the puppy with the bald spot in the village. Subaru went to go save her in the forest with Rem because the children were all kidnapped. I know this because Rem mentioned the controller of the Maebeasts escaped and Roswal mentioned how that the name Maebeast tamers. I thought it was strange how she disappeared after Rem and Subaru saved her.

That little Girl with the Braid is Meili who was the little girl from The village in S1 who was holding the Mabeast puppy and was “used” as bait for Subaru in the Forrest Also most of the Witches were shown at the start of the Op after Echidna the Witch of Greed let’s go of the Butterflies starting with Minerva the Witch of Wraith, then Sehkmet the Witch of Sloth, then Daphne the Witch of Gluttony, then Typhon the Witch of Pride and finally Carmilla the Witch of Lust Satella is shown hugging Subaru from behind about halfway through the op and says “I Love You” to him

As I understand it, Satella has two personalities (this is herself and the witch of Envy), Satella loves Subaru in the same way as the Witch of Envy, but the Witch of Envy takes control of Satella's body and does bad things saying that she loves Subaru, killing everyone around, and Satella on the contrary, you saw season 2 and how she appeared at the witch meeting no longer as the Witch of Envy, but as a "Satellа" and cried, telling Subaru to kill her. That is, the Satellа is, as it were, locked in its own body, which is controlled by the Witch of Envy

I'm literally just going through reaction videos to ReZero rn (this is a really solid reaction vid btw), because of how much I like this show. Because I'm impatient, I ended up reading ahead, and the content for this season was immediately my favourite part. I even rewatched the first season and realized just how well-crafted all the characters are. I also noticed things I hadn't before that connect to things which happen later in the story. Tappei (the writer) has honestly done a fantastic job with this story, and I can't wait to see it put into show form. One last thing (I guess it's a hint), that girl in the opening you said might be the archbishop of Lust has appeared before in season 1. I won't say anything else, but maybe you'll recognize her if you go back and look. Ok bye.

As far as the anime is concerned there are four Sin Archbishops. Sloth was killed by Subaru in S1. The position of Sin Archbishop of Pride is currently vacant. And there never was or will be a Sin Archbishop of Envy. But I will say in season 3 we will be meeting another Sin Archbishop. Not saying which one though.
