I think plumbers PVC gutter glue would melt the snorkel to the guard outlet ok. This would be water proof perfectly. Silicone can let go of PVC in certain conditions. Great video, the only decent one I've found. Keep up the good work.

Had a laugh fitted a kings to my 120. Same issue transfer box didnt fit inside guard. Then could not get back bolt on when assembled,so sikaflexed that. Whole job took 8hrs, swore the whole way. Noticed Kings don't sell them any more,can guess why. So for my new 150 took straight to TJM was $650 fitted on special. Agree with everything you've said and laughed.

Great informative video Anthony. Totally agree with the above comments regarding make your own templates ( never trust the makers one. It can be checked by offering it up to the part first before drilling) I would always make my own. Just a by the way, if you took the 30mm off cut of pipe from the inside and cut about a 3-4 mm slot in it. You could reduce the circumference to fit inside itself and the air box. Small bead of silicone on the joint. Would provide a good seal and shouldn’t need the clamp. Kinda like a tongue and grove joint. Joint could easily be broken and be re-siliconed again should the air box ever need to be removed. Carpenters thinking’s on the matter😂 Keep up the good work your videos are excellent. Pity I have a 2kd engine in my old girl.

I bought the ebay snorkel, I like to make sure it fits together before I cut holes in the car, for the life of me I couldn't work out how the hell it would seal up, thrown it to the shit house and got the safari, fit perfectly, poor man pays twice 🤣
@adamconnolly74782 жыл бұрын
I bought the Safari $450.00 because I wanted to not screw around. The template was perfect, and the parts all fit perfect first go... Worth it if you ask me.
If you got GOOD fabrication skills buy cheap one like me. If not buy a Safari like Adam said otherwise it will end in tears like a few of my mates who also followed dodgy template and needed to buy new guards and get painted. This will end up taking up alot of your time and cost you more coin then the Safari would have in the first place. buyer beware...

Like everything today, you get what you pay for. If it's cheap, you pays your money and takes your chances. Eighteen man hours and two dozen beers to fit a snorkel, now that's "hyper-inflation" in action.
@seanhutton71552 жыл бұрын
I fitted one of these to my truck 5 years ago, i did not follow the original template and made my own up one. (cut main hole then put twink on the threads and then push up against guard)glad i did because template was way off. My snorkel also required alot of fabrication but i am a plumber so had no issues with sorting pipework.(also put black atv sealant around snorkel as was not flush with the guard. If you are good at fabrication i would highly recommend one of these ebay specials considering they are 1/5 of the price as a named brand, mine has been great since installed. If you are not good at fabrication pay the money and get a quality one that will not have these dramas.

Thanks for the video. What a nightmare ! I'm not convinced schorks are good. I'm simply concerned that the Hilux models with a circular air box can suck in a lot of dirt from under the wheel arch, especially as there is such a cheap ill-fitting plastic liner with fragile push fasteners. I'm thinking of shifting the air intake to inside the engine bay at the nearest back corner, at the highest and coolest point and least likely to catch dust or water. I'll block the airbox intake from the mudguard and fix a pipe of the same diameter pointing backward and down. The deepest water crossing is around the top of the wheels. As well as all the engine bay parts vulnerable to water, folks often forget there are the door mounted speakers and instrument panel. The idea of a ram effect is nonsense as the filter is a major barrier. However, schnorks do look good, even sexy. By the way, I've seen plastic Safari models that need an oval hole, which is quite difficult to cut with a hole saw. Happy submarining !

Do you really need a snorkel if you are not doing deep water crossings ? Do they have any other benefits other than restricting water intrusion to prevent hydraulic lock ?

Watched this video in the later stages of the eBay snorkel install (needed to check what the deal was with the rubber hose as it didnt really fit and was too far from town to get some different size hose) and it was quite informative at that point, letting me know that it wasn't going to fit properly. Other than that the dude is definitely a bit of a drama queen😆 just takes a bit of common sense, kiwi ingenuity and checking twice before you cut/drill things. While im no mechanic myself i do understand why backyard mechanics like this guy might be put off a cheap snorkel, there was some finnicky little adjustments to the hose, S bend and Airbox that took a little bit of creativity to make fit, but its really just common sense and not being worried to adjust the parts you are given in the kit. I definitely do feel bad for whoever is getting charged for this job as it definitely doesnt take 3 guys 6 hours. Myself and the old man probably spent 4 hours on and off on Xmas day fitting it up, so dont be scared to give it a crack yourself, youll probably find you take a lot more care in checking drilling the holes etc than the above example. Hope that helps someone 🙏

While I agree with what you are saying about Ebay snorkels. Unfortunately, I have a 2005 Suzuki grand vitara. I approached ARB about a Safari snorkel, as well as Ironman and TJM. No one makes snorkels for my model Suzuki anymore. So I either got a custom one made, which is way over budget for my old car, or buy an Ebay one. Which I did. Fortunately, the template was fairly accurate, albut having to drill out the screw holes larger due to the angle of the screws. It was a bitch of a job, and not something I would do again, but it does fit, and does look good. But all said and done. I wouldn't recommend Ebay snorkels either. It is a roll of the dice.

Honestly even the safari was a joke. Definitely better than chinabay, but the template wasn't great, studs didnt line up, diagrams and instructions were absolute rubbish. Took 3x as long as it should have. The instructions were written by a Chinese person with limited English and not proof read or edited by anyone in a country that speaks English as a first language. I was so disappointed considering the price. Still got it done but not ideal for the $$$
