Many tourists from overseas purchased Japan railway passes so they took JR railway train to JR Nara station but Nara park is closer to Kintetsu Nara station than JR Nara station. 15~20 mins between JR Nara station and Kintetsu Nara station on foot. ye can take a bus if ye want. cheers

Actually Nara park is famous for the biggest wooden temple(=Toudai-ji) in the world and huge budda, which are super old. Kasuga shrine is also so beautiful with many lanterns, which is also the same premises in Nara park together is Toudai-ji.

In Japan, it is advisable not to walk while drinking or eating food. There are no trash cans and it is generally bad manners.

no drinking while walking is a small advice from a Japanese because you won't find a bin in the streets. I am afraid you will have to keep it in your bag and throw it in the bin in your hotel. Now you know why no Japanese is drinking while walking.
