Awesome work! I'd recommend flying Old Glory on the passenger's side so it appears to be on its own right to onlookers. It's in the flag code under display from vehicles. Nice work!

Great idea, My 2000 Stepside has 2 hole electrician straps that hold a Flag pole, but as a 72-75 Veteran, once a flag has any rips or threads from wind, I have to have it properly disposed of. Good Luck !!!

Good job, i would make it so the square tubing is bolted in and put another hole near the top of it and make it so you use a clevis pin and you can take the flag in and out very easy, just leave the square tubing bolted in the truck. you could paint that part black so it doesn't stick out. good job though looks awesome!

Lone Wolf I think he meant that it's nice that it still has a column shift. I think the dial that dodge uses is absolutely incompetent and not thought through at all, as for console shifters in a truck, ehhh personal preference I guess but column will always be best imo

Very nice install. For me, I would go bigger with the 4x6 or 5x7 flag. But you could do that down the road and interchange when you feel the need. But nicely done. I don’t have that rail cavity on my tundra so I had to do something totally different. Thanks for sharing.

I did the exact same thing for truck back in July. Only thing I would recommend is instead changing out the eye bolts. Leave them bolted to the pipe and use a little d ring that’s rated for like 1,000 lbs. Much easier to change out and requires no extra buying once completed

on the eyelets you should put nylon locking nuts on it. I think there regular nuts will vibrate loose.

just yesterday made my own truck mounted flag poles..2 5' long 1" electrical pipes... 2 eye bolts, 2 black rubber chair leg boots, 4 D rings.. painted the poles flat black prior to attaching the flags. Just used the two rear stake holes. 20 bucks in materials... now the 3x5 flags cost me 30 bucks each.. but they are 100% spun polyester. but the way I did it, I can change out flags of my choice.. plus, NO DRILLING. simple easy. Looked online, some kits go for 100, up to 300 bucks. Hell, I just made my own. Cool vid though.

That hole is for strapping stuff down in the bed. It's not a hole for you getting in the truck. Also you don't have to hold the key till the truck starts you can just turn the key and let go and the truck will start.

OK So I just completed this exact setup . My ONLY concern is that the flag will sometimes cover your taillight at a stop. It will block the turn signal and possibly get you some unwanted attention from the police

Great DIY mod! Why not make up another setup for the passenger side and design yourself a GuitarmageddonZL1 flag to attach to it. Remember though, when flying the American flag at night it's supposed to have a light on it. Look for a small LED spot light to mount as an uplight for night time driving. If you know someone who can sew, I'm sure a nylon sock would be easy enough to make to slide down over the pole to keep the flag from flapping around. The "sock" could also be embroidered with whatever you wish. You could sell each of the aforementioned items individually, or as a complete package. Pat.pend. Have fun.

Just so we on the same page those are tie down locations and they are on every truck unless the bed has been modified or the truck wasn't rated to have large loads in it but love the clip
