This card has 14 Phases and the MOSFET it uses is rated at 50A (AOZ5332QI). So the total combined power these phases can deliver is 560 watts (Power = Amps x voltage). Voltage is 0.795v. The core only needs 350 watts under full load. So in theory each phase can deliver 39 watts. With one MOSFET missing, the total capacity on this GPU is now reduced to 520 Watts which is still a lot more than what the core requires which is only 350 Watts. So the card will perform just like it did before without any performance drop.

These cards are notorious for having that 3rd from the top down, 50A "AL00" (AOZ5332QI) Alpha & Omega mosfets blowout. I have noticed that the AOZ5311NQI or BLN0 55A siblings fair better. Also the AOZ5312UQI or 60A BKU0 I have not seen blow out like the 50A ones. I have started replacing the AL00 50A with 55A BLN0 and cards work perfectly. Just for that 3rd down mosfet for redundancy. Only downside is that the 55A and 60A ones are expensive! Btw, fuses or not, they still blowout along with their fuses.

Ya I will now started to replace these AL00 to BK ones. These are not able to handle the power specifically on 3080 ti and 3090. I have ordered stock of these ones.

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql They are a bit more expensive, but every card I have used BLN0 or BKU0 as replacements have never come back. I had a card like that with a hole where the mosfet should have been. I talked to the customer and he agreed on having the remaining phases replaced with 60A phases, since one is now missing, just for redundancy because I know the rest of the 50A phases will now have to work harder during high or low switching, and this is going to be a problem in the future. He agreed and that card has never been back. I know the guy and he is a happy camper. This is a Gigabyte 3090 card that came with AL00 50A mosfets. The worse from Alpha & Omega in my opinion.

This was fascinating. I would have figured the card was beyond repair with that scorched pad. Would there be any issues with running the card without that mosfet?

I tried looking up what a MOSFET even is. It seems very complicated and I didn't understand any of it. lol I assume the load would be distributed to the remaining ones, which seems like it would just increase the strain on the others and result in another one going. I presume the card might guard against that by a slight drop in performance. Essentially slightly lowering the card's maximum performance.

No there would not have been any issues without the MOSFETs. But since 2 were faulty i decided its best to get at least one installed.

There is a lot to consider before drilling a hole. Now in the case of this PCB, it has 14 power MOSFETS. In this case, each MOSFET is rated for 50A. Now in theory the total watts these MOSFETs on this PCB can deliver to the GPU core is 560 watts (P=A x V) which is way above the 350 watts that it needs. So even with 2 MOSFETs removed, this PCB will deliver the same power required by the GPU core that it would with all MOSFETs installed . YES, the load will be shared by other MOSFETs but there is tons of room for it on this PCB. In this case, the performance will not be hampered.

@DexLuther MOSFETs are special transistors that are mainly used for regulating current flow in this case. Transistors are commonly used for switching and amplification. It's a bit more complex, but I hope this helps.

Great video, I have the same card that burned out the phase and caused a problem with the PCB. I disassembled it but some connections were damaged and it works without it but there is a problem which is that it only works on the frequency from 870 to 900 from the default frequency of 1335 and 1665 for Boost. Are there any thoughts on this?

Well first the MOSFET's would need to be measured with an oscilloscope to check if all are firing. My assumption is power is not getting delivered.

Great video but my only Problem is you didn't replace the missing phase this card is going to be back in another two months time when the other phases are over worked. You can already see in the stress test the core isn't hitting anywhere near 2000mhz, also it's possible to add fuses I've seen other videos where people have grinded away the mask and added them in series, just pointing it out Otherwise great video.

Yes, I could have added a fuse. Something I can start doing in the future. Thank you for bringing it up. After drilling to remove the short, there is nothing left to install the new MOSFET there. The pads were grinded so the short could be removed and there was a hole by the time the short was gone. This card has 14 phases and a MOSFET rated for 50 Amps each. the total power these phases can produce combined is 560 watts. Each phase can produce up to 39 watts. The core only needs 350 watts. with the load shared with One MOSFET missing the capacity now is 520 watts which is still a lot more than the core requires. About the clock frequency. RTX 3080Ti max boost clock is 1665Mhz (unless overclocked). In BIOS the GPU clock is at 1365Mhz and Boost Clock is at 1665Mhz so this card will not boost above 1700Mhz in any way. You can pause the video after i open GPUz and in the first tab at the bottom of that application you will see the base clock and Boost clock. The frequencies you see in the video is boosting are as per spec of Nvidia. There is no overclocking done on the GPU.

Fuses do not help. They will blowout and also take the mosfet down with them. At the PCI-e they use 10A fuses and at the 8 pin rails they use 20A fuses. But still this is no help. What I have started doing is replacing those 50A mosfets with 55A or 60A ones. Cards never been back and TDP is where it should be, around 99%-100%, along with proper frequency boost.

It's fine if you don't put the back cover. Just make sure you have good ventilation. The back cover also protects it from any damage on the back.

Yes, it does. This card has 14 phases with 50A MOSFETs each and a capacity of producing 560W. The core needs only 350W max. By losing one MOSFET the total capacity has been reduced by 39W but is still more than enough for the core. The load will be shared but more than even with 13 phases it is more than sufficient.
