I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're commentary is so good. The way you narrate your thought process before every play has made me a much better player. You understand and explain how a single play can decide the entire game well before its over. You remind me what's so cool about this game, and what I love about control decks. Thanks for your dedication to pumping out quality content!

Another video where I woke up, copied the deck, and just went from diamond 2 to mythic in about an hour and a half two days before reset. Thanks Sloth as usual!

I conclude my favorite deck for laddering at the moment is the Control Domination deck you shared. I am currently averaging 58% over 200+ games with Control Domination which has been one of the better winning decks for me. Cannot wait to start putting this new deck to work. Thank you for sharing another winning control deck variation.

Very nice, looking really forward for helix too but for sligthly other reasons, i think it will make Dragons be competetive together with the dragon battle an most likely in jeskai colours too

I agree that control with Helix will be hard to beat in the coming standard. The next set is very creature focused, so nothing really to scare for control.

Also some of bomb cards for control - can't wait for new set :D It can't come early enough, so many cool cards

Hi Sloth, What would be the modifications for this deck in regards to what to "remove" in order to add the new Lightning Helix you mentioned?
@SlothMtg8 ай бұрын
My friend, new jeskai with helix is already online, posted it like 12 hours ago (it is exactly what you asked for :)
@flexmastrkoolaid9 ай бұрын
Sadly monored will always ne a deck bc its simple and usually cheap. (Nothing wrong with that....I guess... lol) but helix, like you mentioned, will be a huge boon for control. I super appreciate and enjoy your videos so thanks as always man!

Awesome deck! I always try the ones you post and they work! I will say I feel I’m having a harder time this season moving close to Mythic compared to the last couple seasons. Is it just me? Or are you having a more difficult time ranking up this season?
@SlothMtg9 ай бұрын
To be honest, I don't seem much difference between seasons, it's usually just about playing more games and you will eventually get there.Sometimes run is a bit unlucky and you bounce into this losing streak (most painful ones are 1 tick from mythic, happened many times), they happen randomly and then it definitely feels harder, but in the end it's all about playing more games and it smooths out :)

Either playing vs mono red or playing vs all the odd control decks when you are expecting red haha. Truly can't have it how you like it 😅

Can someone explain the rationale behind wizards programming the matchmaker to make sure their playerbase gets unfavorable, unfun matchups? So the players blame the deck and spend money on other cards?
@SilentSamurai89 ай бұрын
It’s not as simple as the way that you’re wording it. It’s similar to asking why a social media company may present your feed with argumentative content. Why would it be beneficial to make you irritated? Well, because it provokes more interaction. In that same way, not saying spending money/time on getting new cards/decks to try isn’t a part of it, but I assure you they have algorithms based on data that keep a carrot right ahead of players at the right time and reward you when they feel they’re losing you. In the end, there are ways to play through it for the most part. It’s not as though we miss top prize often or miss out on making mythic each cycle. It’s just funny when you are at the top of the ladder or tear one and finally, after 6 wins in a row, get that one Manna hand, or get destroyed by a tear one guy with the perfect draw, despite the making every tactical error, and barely knowing how to play. Check your overall wind rate versus global wind rate. There are areas to get compiled data on this and more… It’s hard to describe through text when you don’t feel like riding a lot.😂 it’s not a novel concept by wizards now. You should look up NBA 2K. they are notorious for similar practices, but are far far worse. Wizards and arena, at this point anyway, is more comical than anything. We complain Justin good fun for the most part. That doesn’t mean data driven people don’t keep a close eye on it though.

You know that match maker puts you against decks archetype that they feel are strong against you right? Do you want to get rid of mono red in your ladder? Just add temporary Lockdown in your main deck and all of the sudden match maker will never put mono red against you AGAIN
@raoninery9 ай бұрын
I noticed that when I played reanimation, always facing weird decks that play heavy counter or exile effects or mirror matches over and over . Then When I was playing my usual Esper I noticed that Mono red vanished on my ladder when I decided to put 2 temporary lock downs and 2 Third Path instant that you draw a card and win life equals to the amount of cards in your hand. Mono red gets crazy if it's turn 4 and your still 20 life or above.... lol and then when you clean all their board with a single 2 mana enchantment
@Prepostasaurus9 ай бұрын
This doesn’t make sense. You’re saying it’s never possible for a player to have a favorable matchup based on the deck they are playing? If that were true, how would your opponent have a favorable matchup against you if the matchmaker isn’t supposed to give players favorable matchups?
@raoninery9 ай бұрын
@@Prepostasaurus it is, but depending on what archetype you’re playing. Wizards have their own plans for meta, focusing on promoting new sets and building a “health” meta. Usually they don’t like some archetypes to get very popular or very high on mythic like reanimators and heavy control. So match maker is used to control win rates and slow your progression on the ladder.
@raoninery9 ай бұрын
@@Prepostasaurus I’ve been playing Arena since 2019 and to me it’s clearly not a random matching process. It’s pretty obvious that some decks just show up on the ladder depending on what you’re playing.
@SilentSamurai89 ай бұрын
It’s also not about YOU losing or ME losing, personally. It’s about WHEN you lose. What tier are you at? What’s your current wind rate like? It’s not simple, cut and dry. However there’s certainly many factors in the algorithmsalgorithms at play here. It’s honestly not that big a deal, yet not a conspiracy either. It is what it is. 😅
@SilentSamurai89 ай бұрын
SLOTH! Ok, ok…this is just a coincidence. Just random stuff so let’s move on. 😅 Your narration today was on another level. Wizard needs to make cards with the names from your quotes. 🤣😂 “ your mono-red friend just absolutely crumble in despair” “ you can feel the dreams getting shattered” -Great catch on the foundry block in game two, followed by sunfall -Sokenzen play on endstep… new players… what can you say??😅 “ it’s a good block for you. It’s so good… it’s so juicy. Ah, that’s what I thought.” 🤣 “ so worst case scenario, we still win, and best case scenario we still win. We generally win and that’s the case.”🦥✊🏽 “ sweet despair” “ power honk” 😂 We need to have a petition for MTG to make these cards. Man, these are just glorious lines. This was partly MTG arena content, and partly a 30 minute comedy special.
@SilentSamurai89 ай бұрын
By the way, “just saying random things”, but Sonio played my current mythic level Esper control deck and the first three opponents were mono-red aggro. 🤔 We weren’t able to watch the entire video and start after the third game. However, looking ahead, there’s a mirror match, followed by mono white humans, Agro, Agro, mirror, and Agro. Take what you will. 🍷
