I think Jackson's films are beautiful, but there is lots of room for other interpretations. Tolkiens sketches and watercolors should not be ignored.

Thanks, I agree! His paintings are out of the mind of the man himself, after all. 😊

It's more "white cliffs of dover" coupled with the rolling grassy hills of parts of the English countryside. I can see why he imagined it this way rather than Jacksons version.

Check out Lauterbrunnen if you haven't seen it before! It's very plausible that his visit there inspired Rivendell. 🙂

I'd really love to know what was Elrond's defense plan for this version of his house. Even Bree was better protected than that place.

The place was described as being secret if i remember correctly. Probably some elven magic too?

Elrond has some Elven magic up his sleeve.

You'd think Turgon's great-grandson would keep in mind how well hidden and protected Gondolin was and what still happened there.

In watching this for the first time, I thought the same thing. Liked the Gondolin observation as well. Perhaps a Maiar like Melian taught someone how to create the same spell used to protect Doriath - causing attackers to become bewildered in the forest. Only there is no forest in Tolkien's picture!

I think the last simple house of the elves was more poetic than what the 3D render show
