This 2024 Chevrolet Silverado High Country is the most expensive new Chevy 1/2 ton truck you can buy today (if you imagine it has power steps). It carries an MSRP of $79,000 and with the steps you can bump that to $80k and change. For double the price of the cheap work truck package we just checked out, you can have a self driving truck that can pull a trailer in Supercruise.

@@thesandman775 Not sure you read my comment right. I said for another 50k, over the 96k, so around 150k i could buy a house. I bought a new Colorado on 10/3. On 11/1 it went to the dealer and I didn't get it back until 12/29. A software update blew the control module for the dash and controls, so it was just a big brick. Even now it alerts for phantom pedestrians and it keeps losing the settings for the remote start/keyless entry. Just yesterday I had to reset the controls because I could lock the doors with the button on the handle, but I could not unlock them. Went into the menus and that feature was turned off all of a sudden. Too many bells and whistles is just stuff to go wrong. I should have kept my 2019, it never gave me any trouble.

I've got a 2015 Sierra 4x4 that's heavily optioned. Of course it doesn't have some of the features that this one does, but it's been a really good rig and it still looks like new. It only has 78,000 miles on it. I REALLY like the dash and interior in this one a lot more. The displays are incredible. So much nicer than mine. I especially like the big clock. That is really cool. The storage in the rear seat backs is nice too. One thing that RAM did that was nice was putting storage in both sides of the floor in the back. That was about the only thing they did right LOL... I do like some colors of tan interior but so many of them look more like baby poop than tan. The tan on the seats in this HC look nice, and I think the two-tone looks good too. Does this pickup have a roll up bed cover ? It kinda looked like it did at times but it was hard to tell.

I have the power steps and they are awesome, there is a button on the back of the running boards that allows it to swing further back so you can use it as a step up to get into the front of the bed easier. I am only lacking Supercruise and HUD. I have had multiple Yukons, Escalades and a 2019 Silverado before this. I love the 6.2 engine, will never buy another 5.3 again. I really don't understand the fascination with self-driving vehicles... I don't even use cruise. Don't like it. It's the epitome of laziness in my opinion. I'm 62 years old and I drove truck for 40 years for a total of approximately 2,500,000 miles, plus all of the miles I've driven in my personal rigs over 46 years. I never used cruise in the truck either. I actually like to drive the vehicle I'm in. I have no desire to just be a passenger. Besides, when it comes to self-driving vehicles, I don't like the idea of having a bunch of electronics having that much control, knowing that it could malfunction. Maybe if I was younger I would look at it differently but I doubt it.

Nothing is clunkier than an aftermarket dash cam, with its cord searching for a 12V "powerport"/"cigarette lighter"/"cigar lighter". My Ram has 9 USB ports but the only 12V port is in the top of the dash (duh). I wonder if the manufacturers are fearful of anti-trust rules. It's my understanding that that is the reason they don't do campers.

I owned a 2022 GMC Sierra. Hopefully they have improved the processing power of the infotainment because mine was incredibly laggy and slow. It has wireless carplay, but refuses to default back to carplay when you get back in the car. The rearview camera would freeze and drop frames all the time. I have also been participating in GMs customer review panel and they are constantly asking questions about different services I would be willing to pay for as one time over the air updates or subscription. Welcome to the world of having updateable computers in your truck. I worry about these in car systems getting even slower as more updates are pushed over time. GM is also the last manuf. to switch to coil springs in the rear which makes this a really poor riding vehicle versus Ram.

Talk about geeking out! This truck has more electronics than an Airbus A-380! About the only thing more distracting than the dashboard of this truck is a live Flash-Bang grenade going off in your face!

I would go with this spec or higher. I bought my '18 Sierra SLT Premium Plus new, loaded as close to a Denali Ultimate as you could get it (Denali wasn't worth the upcharge, especially since I upgraded to the Denali cluster and 22" wheels myself for not much money). I would buy the Sierra over the Silverado for the new ones. If going 1/2 ton again, I would go with the 3.0 Diesel over the 6.2. I'm happy with my current 6.2, which is the same motor as this but with less sophisicated AFM. The 3.0 isn't quite as fast but for towing it is a better motor. That said, I think the HD Sierra Denali is the go-to now. My pretty frugal wife saw one and liked it so much she mentioned me upgrading. I'd love to, but I don't need a 3/4 ton and with only 29k miles on my truck, I can't justify the expense. I do wish GM offered the Pano roof on the trucks. Also, 0W20 has been a spec since the DI motors came out in 2014.

Yes, technically a gas funnel, surprised you didn't know that it's required to overcome the anti-siphon valve in a capless fuel system!

I am glad that you like a self driving truck with all the bells and whistles, my preference is a rig that I drive and not worry about a something malfunctioning with the radar system. My rig is a late model set up for towing, yes I have payments and yet it is a simple one that suits my needs and wants.

The question is, would John Ross trade in his F250 Power Stroke for this 1/2 ton Chevy? Cool video.

Hell of a test drive. Towing junk to the dump. That funnel is for capless fuel tanks. Without it, you cant use a gas can to pour gas into the truck if you're stuck somewhere.

I feel these trucks are just wrong. For $79,000 it should do more truck and not be a pretty, luxury vehicle. Those 22" are gonna be terrible for pulling and off-road.

Thanks for the walk-through. I have a nice 2014 GMC 1/2 ton crew cab and see nothing on this new truck that excites me. The back seats are still not comfortable enough for a long trip, and so I still need a long-trip vehicle. I'd be interested in a Ford or GM option for SUV-style back seats. I really like the new adaptive cruise (I have it on a vehicle) but that's not going to get me to spend $80k.
