@@simoSLJ89 I'm 6'4" and around 95kg in weight I've used a herman mill mirra, which made me look at buying a new chair, lovely but no way am i spending that amount although it is the only office chair i have sat on that i almost never sit on one of my legs on (yes i know incredibly bad habit which is why i mentioned it) I use an Ikea Markus at home and ive found it comfortable, would prefer the desk to be deeper even though on a corner. The markus has the armrests waaay to low and unadjustable but i dont find the Mirra's arm rests to be usable and i end up leaning too close to the monitor, (yes i think its not just the chair but the overall ergonomics) the Markus length of back rest just suits me far better than the Mirra. Lower arms, am working from home and I miss my Elecom thumball mouse with a 3d printed raised angle, as i have two mice to jump between to have variance.

You should really put in the description that it's a long term review of an Autonomous ErgoChair so people searching online for reviews can find it! I know this video is stale now & this'll be buried in comments, but good reviews of specific products are hard to find, especially long term ones, and a long term review of a superseded model is still very useful

Appreciate the content, Jay. Can’t overstate the need for a quality chair when you’re an office worker, or spend a lot of time at the desk, like a gamer. Even more so if both! I had a Herman Miller Aeron for probably 15 years. I’m now about 4 or 5 years into a Herman Miller Embody. Man, it’s like there’s no chair there at all. It’s like I float. Kids, there’s an old saying. Spend your money on the things that connect you to the ground. That’s your bed, your shoes, your chair, and your tires. That advice has served me well for many, many years. Ignore that at your peril. Lastly, loved the Ifixit bit. Had a very Crazy Eddie vibe. Took me back to Saturday morning NY area TV with Crazy Eddie hawking his Christmas in July sale. Insaaaaaaaaaane!

@@houssamalucad753 The Aeron is great. I bought a Size C for myself off craigslist for $400. It's a almost too big and i'm 6'2" 250 lbs. I brought home a Size B [from work] that they weren't using because it has no tilt lock mechanism. Get one with tilt lock. It has a pneumatic tilt mechanism so it's not too bad, but the lock makes a huge difference. This tiltless one is from 2006 btw, and still works just like the Size C that is only a couple years old. Moral of the story, get a size B Aeron unless you're over 6'2" or over 250 lbs. They're cheaper on craigslist. See them all the time for $400-600, just make sure you get one with the tilt lock mechanism. [Edit]

Herman Miller Aeron sitter here. Over the years (5 or so), the mesh on the front edge of the seat has started to fray from all the sliding and twitching I do. It's not at the point where it's lost any support, but I expect I'll have to be replacing it in a couple years. This is an easy DIY project - there aren't any screwdriver heads that you won't be able to drive with a bit from a hardware store, and the construction of the seat is straightforward enough that you won't need to search for blueprints. It will require the proper shape of mesh, but that's about it. In general, if you're a hardwood floor owner, you'll want to invest into hardwood floor casters, which are just your regular soft rollerblade wheel mounted in a caster rig. I had this rolling on engineered wood floors for years, and there aren't any dents or depressions in the finish. BUT, wood floors that feature a layer of plywood on top (like engineered wood) may crack in places where there are air pockets in the plywood layer. Also, mesh seat is very nice because you can blow a fan through it. All swamp-ass sufferers here will appreciate.

After working standing all day for 5 years, then switching to a work from home gig, I have been suffering from such bad back pain. I was using a typical, sub $200 gaming chair because it matched the colors of my other desk accessories. And it was fine back when I only spent 1-2 hours each da in it. Now that I spend 9-12 hours a day in a chair, I really need to bite the bullet and make a good investment. I will be ordering this next week for sure

I have had an almost identical looking chair for a few years and love it. I sit in it for extended hours at a time and the only issue I have had is that the cushion needed a wash. I got it for the support, but also for the mesh backing, and in addition to what Jayz mentioned, the mesh backing also helps airflow in summer so that it doesn't feel as sweaty if its really hot.

At around 6'5" and 260lbs, really appreciate this kind of content. I struggled for years to find a chair that fit me and was affordable. I have a Chachi Ergonomic full mesh chair that I paid £160 /$215 for 2 1/2 years ago (msrp £395/$530 but usually sells for £200/$270 most places). Rated 24hr for up to 280 lbs. Only real problems I have are that the spring for the back is a little looser than I'd like, feels like you're going to fall back if you lean and the headrest occasionally falls down if I lean my head on it in the wrong place. Otherwise great for sitting at work all day then, when done, playing games for the evening.

I use a saddle chair for a lot of my day work - operating where i am leaning forward unsupported for example (or with light finger rests). It's not for everyone and can take some getting used to but is a far better base to set your spine position than many 'pan' seats. Might be worth a look for any of you who have never seen one. *Be aware your sitting height will be different to a normal chair so desk height then becomes an issue. THey work well where you have adjustable desk :).

I've warehoused and built hundreds if not thousands of commercial office chairs over the last couple years, so here are some of my amateur chair person (?) thoughts. 1. Mesh seat pans are overrated, they tear and stretch worse than leather. 2. The price/quality ratio is a bell curve. The higher-end budget chairs are better than the entry-level mid tier. Don't go over $400, don't go under $800. 3. Adjustable and locking head and lumbar support > support pillows. 4. Standard barrel-pin casters are cheap and easy to replace. 5. NOTE FOR JAY: Commercial office suppliers can order big and tall chairs with extra caster prongs, wider seat and back pans, heavier materials, etc.

You know, I've been sitting in a wheelchair for 22 years now, and I've never understood all this elaborate crap they put in office chairs when wheelchair surfaces are literally just a piece of cloth stretched between two metal rods, and most people who use them have some spinal damage - myself included - that makes seating comfort all the more important for them, so I thought all of these office chair features are basically just snake oil. This was THE video that convinced me I should give one of these a go. Thanks!
@pkbeast
@pkbeast 4 жыл бұрын
That has blown my mind. Not that I see wheelchairs on a daily basis or anything, but every single one I do see is exactly as you describe, a piece of cloth between two rods. @@pkbeast Yea, and that's the exact reason why I've been thinking if I'm good to sit in one for hours on end, I don't need all these features an office chair has... but the thing is, I do not sit still in a wheelchair the entire time, I move around, and even so my back starts hurting after a couple hours, which I've always blamed on the actual condition I'm having, instead of the comfort of the chair. Now I'll try such an office chair to find out how much longer I can sit in one without having to lay down a bit to recover from all the strain.

@João M. Most of the complaints are probably from people who could not afford it. I will only buy Herman Miller chairs. There are two reasons: comfort and warranty. I had a HM chair for 10 years. The back would no longer stay up. I took it to the HM dealer. The HM dealer called me two days later and said come in and choose a new chair. HM chose to not repair the chair and to just give me a brand new chair. I now have a new chair with a 12 year warranty. About 4 years into, one of the armrest 'rivets' broke. I brought it in and they repaired it, tuned the chair up and had it ready in 4 days. I will not buy a cheap chair again. Jay is right. There is a reason why they are premium chairs. They are built for comfort and longevity.

João M. Amazon reviews (for United States at least) are very very good for Herman Miller chairs. Besides, Herman Miller is the best of the best in terms of support and comfort. Since we only have one body/one back and damage both every time we spend hours in a chair, I think the cost is definitely worth the safety (plus the cost of later issues that back problems will bring could be hundreds of times more expensive).
