The same was true for slenderman games. A LOT of the fan made games were simply not scary. Making a scary game kinda involves moments where you do not have the player be in the same room as the monster for a very long time, because this gives players the oppertunity to learn the mechanics of the monster. Like the Siren Head Resurrection game, you had 1 fetch quest section with Siren Head being there the entire time. The first moments might have been scary, but you learn where he can and cannot go, at which point, you're not locked in there with it, it is locked in there with you. As for people who are working on scary games and want to keep their monster scary: 1. Do not give the player a safe spot when in the same room as the monster. Anywhere the player can go, the monster must be able to reach. 2. Do not let the player spend a long time with the monster, they either need to be running away from it, or hide untill it goes away. 3. Do not be afraid to add a monster chasing sequence when the next objective is far away and use that sequence as a distraction for the distance. This wasnt really necessary in Siren Head Resurrection, nor in Retribution, but sometimes distance between objects is large. Dont fill up the distance with random fetch quests leading to that point, just add a hide and seek sequence that can be followed up by a chase sequence with Distance B being the moment they finally escape the monster. 3 is obviously the least required out of all, but 1 and 2 are necessary if you want the monster to remain scary

I'm so glad you liked it!! I wrote and did the audio design for this game, including the soundtrack. It was the first game I ever worked on, and I had a ridiculous amount of fun. I even sampled my voice for some of the sounds that Siren Head makes, and I used branches from outside my house to make the sound of him walking (and you dying lol). I'm so sad you didn't get the Pickle Rick voice line though lmao As a fun side-note, I was in a Halloween corn maze last year, and someone actually ripped one of the sounds I made for this game (including my voice) and used it for their ambience! Super crazy. Be on the look out for a new, original title by me and my brother Nathan! A trailer is coming soon! :D

I kinda understand why the stamina is limited, it is there for you when you got discovered. When siren head still looking for you, you have to stand still because i think that works fine unless when you got discovered you don't have any other choices other than run from it. So if the stamina can be recharge you can pretty much get away from it easily and that makes the game less scary

In human terms, if you think about it, you can only run so long. Once your energy is spent you would need to rest for a long time (like overnight) before it returned, though standing still and not being heard was probably more the dev's intent as you were saying.

@@7raesloan Well if it's a life and death situation even the fattest dude can use stamina reserves they didn't even knew existed. Your body is limited but only unlocks in these situations because using this much power takes a huge toll on the body. From a technical standpoint the stamina pool is huge but you are limited to a small part. On a game dev standpoint stamina is finite and/or needs time to recharge otherwise its op af

It doesn't work if you just stand still without sound. Sirenhead (in this game) is able to notice the shape of his environment in doing those noises (similar how bats navigate in the dark), means even without any sound you literrally can see you like having an ultrasonic radar. And that's even explaining the logic why he is save in shacks or the base- on halfway solid walls the sound bounce off with the shape of the shack or alike.

Saw this video when it dropped, and I've genuinely thought about this game so much since. I work on horror games and I love the paranoia induced by unconventionally limiting player resources (like in the most recent Amnesia title) and the way this game handles stamina is absolutely burned into my brain. The anxiety produced every time you run, knowing you're not going to get that back... it's beautiful.

And that's why you are save in buildings (shacks or the base) because in a building with halfway solid walls the sound bounce off with the shape of the shack or alike.

Oh my goodness this game was something. I've seen a lot of "meh" Siren Head games but this, WOW. The subtle horror and attention to detail make it so much scarier somehow. The slight distortion of the sounds, the shaking when it walks, its echolocation, its stalking behavior, the fact that it "communicates" and threatens you through the radio, the fact that sometimes you hear it LOUD but can't truly see it, just, WOW. I could feel the tension and terror in the moments of running and hiding. The atmosphere is just insane and so unsettling yet terrifying at the same time. It really has that dread that horror games try to get but usually ham-fist too much (with jumpscares 1000 times, etc) The moments when you can barely see where you're walking, and you hear it behind you? When its sounds and footsteps get louder and faster, UGH those moments gave me goosebumps SO much.

I think the siren head camping around player in certain range and teleport around that range, and the range goes smaller as the key items player touch. On the 3rd key item case, it maybe teleport so close behind you and since it's also running, you really need the stamina to run. Idk about multiple siren head but you can hear multiple step sometimes that each interval too close for just one siren head. Just theorizing thought. And hey, i love the game either way. I wish insym give the secret ending.
