I just received this exact same guitar for my birthday yesterday. After about 24 hours, it has already become my favorite acoustic guitar. I love the sound and the playability. The Fishman pickup sounds great as well. I agree with you that I like the somewhat darker tone that the mahogany provides. Great guitar.

I have an Orangewood Austen And for the price the sound and quality cannot be beat. Feels and plays like a guitar 2 to 3 times its price in my opinion. And the fact that it comes with a high-quality gig bag blows my mind. Definitely purchasing another Orangewood this year. Highly recommended!!

I had a few too many beers one night and ordered an Orangewood Echo Live for about $350. I must say, I was shocked at what a great guitar it was! I own a 90's Martin HD28, two Yairi 70's DY85's, and a 70's Yairi classical 5036. It compares well with these. No, it's not a Martin, but it's a damn good guitar! Indonesian guitars have really raised the bar!

I received mine--exactly the same one as yours--about a month ago. I enjoy it as much as my Taylor 114, and think it sounds as good as the Taylor. It's extremely comfortable and fun to play. The Fishman preamp sounds great either through my acoustic amp or my PA. I love the look, feel, and sound of the mahogany wood.

I have a Mason Live, their acoustic-electric cutaway with a solid spruce top. The setup on mine was excellent. I tuned it up and it was ready to go. I don't think you can beat the sound quality without spending over a grand. My main guitar is a Breedlove with a cedar top. I got the Mason because I wanted something a little brighter. I give the edge to the Breedlove but I really paid $1000 for that versus $355 shipped.

I have two Orangewood Guitars. My first was the Oliver Mahogany Live. I too like the warmer tone from the all mahogany construction. Later, I bought the Mason Limited Live. The tone is much fuller and brighter on the Mason, and she's a lot heaver than the Oliver. Both are outstanding player's guitars.

When it comes to playing guitar ,I'm a lot like you. I play electric guitar more then I do acoustic. Now no I don't own a Orange Wood guitar. But I do have a DG-9 Acoustic Fender I've had for 19 years now. On laundry days I like taking my guitar with me to play at the laundromat to kill time washing clothes. I also like to take it with me and play in the park on a nice day. Sometimes I like playing by the lake and watch the ducks swim by while I'm playing some Blues.Sometimes Acoustic Jams are cool to go to.But most of the time, it's electric.It feels good to be out playing again.

I have had mine for just over a year. I like it, but its dry where I live and had it hanging on the wall, so I would play it. It moved alot. I had to take it in for a complete setup and adjustment. Now it lives in a humidified case. I am still happy with it though.

Hey Max I own the Morgan SL orangewood, and I have to say it's a beautiful sounding acoustic I agree with you you only need one that sounds good to do it all and this one does it all for me although I wanted the all mahogany top and back and sides but it was out of stock so I settled with a spruce top I'm happy!

The RCG Maxx is a bit unstable around the curves, but still has a chiming tone on the straight aways, yet a unbalanced dead stop.

I have a Morgan mahogany cutaway. I bought it as a backup stage guitar . I now use it for almost everything. The action and tone and versatility are incredible. Best deal I ever made. It is incredibly responsive to all range of styles. I am not saying that I wouldn't use a vintage Martin or a Larrive but I can easily say that I like it better than Taylor guitars..

I am getting no fret buzz with the Orangewood that I tend to run into with my Martin. The Orangewood plays very smooth. I scooped a Fender Malibu Player on closeout for $300 free shipping. Best feeling acoustic I've ever played. Neck feels like a standard strat neck and the 24.1" scale is a touch slinky which makes bends much more attainable than a typical acoustic. Probably the last acoustic I'll ever buy.

I know a number of acoustic players who say the same thing, I need to play one of those sometime to see. I've got a 64 Framus 12-string, that was my father's, and between that and the models in my Variax, I'm straight for my needs. But if I ever decided to start playing folk again, I'd check out the Orangewoods.

I've played guitar for about 17 years now, I own about 10 guitars some expensive some cheap. You know which I grab 99.9999% of the time? My $200.00 Gretsch Jim Dandy. For sure it doesn't sound as good as my expensive guitars but it's so much fun to play, have had it for a couple of years now it shows only a little neck wear. Money isn't every thing! But I do relent for new players nicer is better a better guitar hides mistakes better but when you get good trust me you could make a turd sound good.

Being as all Orangewood guitars feature a solid wood top,they will improve in tone over the years. The pricier guitars in their line [still well under $1000] feature all solid wood construction.

Good choice. Don't let the hype fool you. Eastman are much better guitars than Orangewood. And that's coming from a generally satisfied Orangewood customer.

Long ago some guitar manufacturers have admitted, that it was the industry that had influenced the users perception of guitar woods. I have played a guitar with a red cedar top and haven't heard any thing better till today. Now we have koa wood and many other exotic woods. I see no reason why mahogany shouldn't sound good. It's not the fancy grain but the build quality and sound that matters!

Nice review. I think Orangewood has largely replaced the old Westbrook label from the 1960s & 70s as folk guitars. Well made and well finished. I have not heard of one person complaining about an Orangewood instrument. Good value 🙂

I have one acoustic electric as well. Honestly acoustic guitars are different from electric guitars in that I can never be convinced I don't need another electric because there's so many styles, shapes, pickups, etc involved with electric, but acoustics are so simple there's no need for multiples. I've got 5 electric guitars and just the one acoustic. Hopefully it lasts for the rest of my life.

I own 3 1/5 acoustic guitars. That'n has a nice warm sound to it. I dig. Course, it's mahogany, so. My main squeeze acoustic is Rosewood with a three-piece back of rosewood/maple/rosewood. It's 1970s vintage. Beautiful piece. Double pick guard, very reminiscent of a Gibson Hummingbird. Also, that slight Spanish lick you played, I *swear* that's from Madeline.

Max! I love your demos! Always high quality and in-depth. I think that your Firefly FF335 review was one of the first videos of yours that I saw. I love that you actually give more affordable guitars a fair shake. Can you check out some stuff from Gear4Music? I think they're based in the UK. Some of their stuff looks really cool, but noone really does any high quality reviews of their stuff. The only ones that I can find tend to have terrible video and sound quality, and I think they were expecting to get the quality of a $600 guitar while only spending $150. I figured since you're American, and a fellow Californian, the experience that you have would probably be pretty close to what I could expect too. :)

Orangewood are sold as Tanglewood in the UK, with a luithier setup they are great guitars at affordable prices, just ensure that if you buy new that it is setup correctly, the action from the factory is way too high.

I don't think so. I just looked through the entire Tanglewood lineup and maybe one or two guitars looked like they might be made in the same factory. Maybe. Definitely different specifications, and the shapes, woods, finishes, headstocks, inlays... They don't look anything alike other than they are both acoustic guitar companies who manufacture in Asia.

Hi Max, I also have the Morgan, It was out of frustration that I ordered it, the Mason Live was always out of order, so I thought the price was right and I never owned a mahogany guitar before, I eventually got a Mason, they are quite the same as fer as the way they feel in hand but the Morgan stole my heart, I have a nice collection of acoustic guitars my crown jewel being a Takamine TNV360SC with Cool Tube technology, it has been sitting to the side as my Orangewood guitar are my go to. I'm super happy with them and haven't looked to adding anymore acoustic guitars since, I'm thinking that if I would've started with these my collection would be much smaller.

I like an all mahogany acoustic electric. I think they have a more musical and satisfying midrange. My only acoustic is a Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat and I love it. I have less than $400.00 invested in it. And that includes matching HSC.
