You will never learn pump foiling and dock starting if you are not using this step-by-step process.
It's not just about knowing and practicing the right techniques. It's about using the right process to learn them. It's about disassembling these complex movements in simpler exercises so that you can make the learning process easy.
Follow the 8-step system presented in the video and you will learn pump foiling by the end of the summer (by the end of this summer, not summer 2026)
If you feel stuck, let's get out of that hole together: calendly.com/g...

In this series, I’m documenting my journey into pump foiling with the goal of helping beginners like me return to the dock, pump longer and further in any condition, and start from anywhere, so that in a near future we’ll unlock together the full potential of this discipline and explore the beauty of the world on our tiny body-powered boards.

Yes volume and thickness are so key. I went through two foils that were within 100cm² of each other, when I was learning. One was impossible, the other was magic and saved me from dropping the sport. It's a shame many manufacturers don't bother listing these numbers.

Good video! If you spoke Polish, I would have thought you read all my posts in a Polish Dock Start group and turned them into a manual 🤣🤣🤣. I would add one more thing. To the mobility section: stretch even more, especially your spine. Many people doing pumpfoiling are starting to have spine problems, especially in the lower lumbar vertebrae. Some of us have already stopped pumping or have had spine surgeries. It seems like spine issues are part of this sport. Many of us have aches, not realizing they originate from the spine and are caused by pumping on the foil. In my opinion, the greatest risk during the activity is the moment of jumping onto the board and straightening up. It has happened to me twice already. At first, I didn't know what was causing it either. That's why stretching is a must.

Maybe in a future video you can explain feet placement, maybe even show what happens with incorrect foot placement so we can recognize what we are doing wrong. Great videos Gaël

Having just gone through the process of learning to dock start I would say there are some very helpful things in what you are saying but also some facts you are ignoring. For example working on jumping on the board while touching it is huge and the land training helped out a bunch. Also to not try and pump and just focus on glide helps but it's super hard to keep from trying to pump. On the other hand having now gotten to the point where I can dead start it's still soooo much harder than a running dock start. Speed just makes things so much easier and gives you more time to correct. The importance of having a good dock with big overhang is also HUGE, but nobody seems to talk much about it. My take is that the easiest way to learn dock starts is: - find a good dock with nice overhang (if your only dock available has no overhand start with a 1.1 or less span foil) - measure 4 steps back for your starting position - put the foil in the water - swap your hands to the top of the board as you start to move forwards - bend at the hips and keep your knees tall and take 4 steps ending with your front foot leaving the dock last - place your rear foot on the board while your front hand is still touching the board (it's better if both are but if you aren't that flexible the rear hand can let go) - try and mount the board like a cat, don't jump *on* it, step up to it's level trying to transfer your weight horizontally not vertically From there it's just a matter of repeating that 500 times. It definitely helps to dial in your glide before you start to pump, but it's super hard to not pump. I would not recommend the Sirius line unless you have at least 30 cm overhang on your dock. The easiest foils to learn to pump on are probably: 1. Indiana 1100P 2. Axis PNG 1150 (1010 if you don't have a good overhang) Having a super low stall speed will help most beginners a ton.

totally agree with you for what concern the steps to follow (I wrote them almost exactly the same in my pump foil guide ahah), and the overhang. However, I don't think those low aspect foils are actually easier to pump and has a lower stall speed than a Sirus. Have you tried a Sirus?

Hi, I've started studying the foil too. My training is going fast, I have already learned different types of start from scratch in a month and I download the foil for about 2 minutes. I have an apf 1675, and first of all I learned how to just pump using a wakeboard winch, then I started jumping in) I thought it would take me 5 months, but it turned out to be much easier and it took only 1

Hey bro, fan of your videos. Here I’m foiling on the east coast of Australia, Noosa and before that Wategoos at Byron bay (where Mr Bennet foils, the legend). Most of your videos are related to dock starting, when are you gonna to transition to wave / ocean foiling? Would love to see your approach on that. Cheers mate, thanks for taking your time with this new sport!

Hey mate! I started daydreaming as I was reading your comment ahah... I envy you for the locations where you get to foil! Ocean foiling has always been my ultimate goal. I'm working hard to achieve this big goal of mine and move to a place where there are constant waves (or at least travel more)

@@gaeldanieleit will definitely be great content, there’s no much content of ocean / wave foiling and seems you have access to the sea, your knowledge would be so rewarding. Waiting for you to get into riding waves! Some of us never tried dock start and are just practicing with waves, please help us out!

Nice video! I had my first two days with a AK Plasma Foil 1600. My weight is around 75 kg, I have a little doubt whether this is the right beginner foil. What do you think, have you ever heard of AK foils? Thanks also for your advice!

Do you think Curve H XXL + Fluid H 45 stab is also good for 78kg beginers? Asking as I have such foil for wingfoiling and would like to try pumping. Is thera a big difference between sirus or fluid H stab?

good question! you can definitely use your setup to learn dock starting. not going to be super easy, but doable. with the curve h series I prefer fluid h stab or freestyle stab!

Drank a little bit too much coffee? This video is slightly aggressive xD. Just joking, thanks dor the breakdown. Was on the water for the first time last week with this tiny board after two weeks of land training and still did not land on the board the right way even once. Was still fun though. Training needs to make fun as well, so all the hard training plan doesn't help if you lose interest because its no fun.
@gaeldaniele
@gaeldaniele 7 ай бұрын
agree! are you using the dockstart? if so, make sure you don't detach your hands from the board before jumping on it. if you do so, it is going to be almost impossible to place your feet in the wrong position.

@@gaeldaniele yes. First I tried the chair-beachstart, but after lots of bruises and first dent in the foil I swam to the floating platform in the middle of the small lake, which is perfect as a dock. The chair will now be waiting at home until I master the dockstart, I suppose :).

Great vid with a lot of key points. Number 1 is so crucial. We get this question a lot of times: can this foil (a low budget kitefoil) be used for pumpfoiling? 😂 Would be nice if you mentioned other foils than just the ones from Gong. Sabfoil, Axis, Armstrong, Indiana and now Duotone/Fanatic have some good foils too ;) aloha 🤙🏼
