To all the comments talking about how this should have been about the dark side of the Philippines, that’s completely unnecessary. What will we gain from mocking our own country and pointing out our flaws as a nation. The Philippines is not perfect by any means but neither is any country, we have problems and corruption but what good does it do to spread that negativity? We as Filipinos have always been known for our hospitality whether it is in our homes or in our country, we have our own issues but yet we still try to shield outsiders and tourist from it, why? Because we want them to enjoy and think of the Philippines as a paradise. This video isn’t made to protest the violent acts happening like the original song this was meant to highlight our couture and show that we might not be the richest nation but our people are happy and that’s what counts. I don’t care what anyone says or how bad my country gets, that is MY country and I will always love it. Proudly Pinoy 🇵🇭 Edit: wow so many likes, glad you guys share the same opinion. Thanks to all my KABABAYAN 💪🇵🇭

@lionarmy126 жыл бұрын
Pizza Shiz we do not sugarcoat it, in America people here love sugarcoating their lives and oh how great America is but in the Philippines we do not sugarcoat our way of life. The news does not sugarcoat the murders, the poverty, the corruption, we know the world we live in and we know what is happening but we do not let foreigners know about our hardships because we have a pride and dignity we want they to enjoy and appreciate our country.
@beautynsoul40946 жыл бұрын

Then why did he use Childish Gambino’s song? His purpose for This is America was to address the issues in America. It’s a serious song. It’s like taking a song about someone’s mother getting murdered and then making a parody song about how much you love your mom’s flan. Mikey should have chosen another song if he wanted to promote the Philippines. Love the Philippines. I’m Filipino myself. Just poor judgment in song choice.

We aren't a big safe heaven as what people Normally think,not it's not saying every country doesn't have the same problem's but we all have to remember that while yes everyone gets treated Nicely when being in different countries you also have to be reminded that nothing is as good as it seem's,We sugar coat things just to keep the whole "it's more fun in the Philippines" Brand.

If part of Philippine culture now revolves around the political censorship of the current government, then there is no better song he could have used. "This is America" is a testament to the glorification of the oppressed other, in any culture. Maybe the guy feels like an other in his own culture, if he doesn't agree with the politics but cant say so out loud. So it's a parody of the song and a parody of all cultures that pretend to promote freedom, while keeping people down.

I mean it's cute. But you also had the amazing opportunity to make a video where people are celebrating fiestas and eating lechon out front whilst innocent people are being killed in the background, or politicians hiding their own smuggling rings, or rice farmers starving through drought because... That song? The original one? It hits close to home with how we also like to gloss over the "Filipino Identity" with all the positives and the great cuisine and beautiful beaches. And no doubt these things about our culture is amazing, but it's sad that we took such a profound song and didnt use it to its full potential to reflect whats happening. Anyway, productive quality is amazing as always, Mikey. And I know like in previous things you always like to focus on positives about Filipino culture and I shouldnt tell you that your experience of our culture is wrong. I think it's sweet you made this. It may be something I could make some criticism of but it isnt bad or wrong in essence.

@@diahan9896 But you can't just always spread hope and be starry eyed and happy go-lucky. This song was MEANT to be negative and a social critique. I'm not saying Filipinos aren't unique or that they aren't special, but there are times that you have to wake up and smell the gunpowder. Yes, you can be hopeful towards the future, but starry-dreaming is nothing if you don't see the problems which encompass the country

I find this video quite ironic considering that the original "This is America" video is originally a social commentary on USA regarding racism, police brutality and gun violence. Content creators from other countries ("This is Nigeria, This is Brazil, etc.) also made parodies as their own form criticism in their countries. I'm sad but also not suprised that the Philippine version is turned into a marketing tourist-y stint rather than valid criticism of society since we do have a habit of pushing aside and running away from problems by distracting ourselves through toxic positivity.
@playstationfandude7463 жыл бұрын
Positivity is ok, But The original is 'This is America'. It's different compared to Asia, It's like Obey the rules and love USA or experience racism
