1 Peter 3:13-16 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

Thank you for your podcast! ❤ I learned a lot that is also relevant for us in Germany. After many days of dealing with the negative, I am now looking for good biblical teaching to fill me with positives. Which teachers can you recommend?

Hi, ich bin auch aus Deutschland! André Töws aus Köln hat eine extrem gute Römer-Serie. Ihn kann ich uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Sonst in englisch zB Jack Hibbs. Mir hat es schon so einige Male die Augen geöffnet! 🙌🏻 Gott und sein unverändertes Wort stehen bei beiden sehr klar im Mittelpunkt! Gott segne dich! ❤

Christian teens should have apologetics lessons immediately following confirmation/catechesis/whatever primer your denomination uses to teach the basics. I said this as a teen and I still mean it as an adult.
@rf7477

That would be a waste of time. Most "christians" have a very poor understanding of their own theology. Apologetics will only lead them into circular argument. The phonies in this video are doing it: "god is because he is because he said so".

"There is a god because its true because he said so and he wrote a book about himself which proves he is a "christian" god". The endless tautology of religion.

I'm not sure I fully agree with this. Personally, I've dabbled in apologetics and atheist/christian debates for maybe 5 years now, and at this point, the only reason I'm (maybe 95%) convinced that the God of the Bible is real is because of first-hand miraculous testimonies from people around me. If all that evidence was taken away, I would say that there is a maybe 20% chance that the core gospel message is true. In this scenario, I wouldn't say I "know" that it's true, but I can still choose to HOPE that its true and PUT my trust in Jesus (rather than focusing on all of the selfish things I can do now that there appears to be no hell). Sometimes all a person can find is a mustard seed of faith; I think sometimes, that's all God will make available for a person. In the Lord of the Rings, there were plenty of points where the evidence pointed strongly towards the inevitable doom of the protagonists. In these scenarios, a person may astutely observe the apparent hopelessness of their scenario and decide to "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die", but, of course, that would be the wrong (and in most cases selfish) choice. So maybe we don't NEED apologetics; maybe we just need to learn the value of pure "love" and our own lack/weakness, and how it is only through Jesus that we can possibly be made whole. I'm still trying to work this out in my mind, but this is generally where I'm at.

Yeah no we need apologetics. As a teen I had a lot of questions. Working with teens, I remember how many questions they had too. Saying to “just believe and love” is dismissive of their concerns no matter how good your intentions are. The people who made me less confused are the ones who took my questions seriously instead of saying “don’t worry about it.” Besides. Since Christianity is true, you can look at it as exploring those truths and getting to know God better just as you would ask a friend questions about themselves. Apologetics isn’t a replacement of love, but one of many expressions of it.
@jesseh3465
@jesseh3465 11 ай бұрын
@@Window4503 I certainly wouldn't want to dismiss a question by saying, "just believe and love", but I would rather (depending on the question) aim to wrestle with the question with them. So yes, apologetics can be an expression of love. And yes, pursuing and asking God these questions may result in you getting to know Him better. I just think, maybe, that we should maybe prepare people in case they don't receive the answers they are looking for. The question is how: Typically, the mentality (among apologists) is that anyone who seeks to know whether the Bible is from God with "all their heart" will eventually be able to know that the Bible is from God. Then they can have faith in God despite unanswered question X, because we know that the Bible is true. But what I'm saying is that we should be prepared put our trust in Jesus even if we don't KNOW that the Bible is true, because Jesus would still remain our only hope, no matter how small that hope is. And what we are hoping for is that our sins can be washed away through Jesus's sacrifice so that we can obtain eternal life, which Jesus defines as, "to know the Father", who is, essentially, the embodiment of all goodness and love. That should, I think, be our aim, despite any and all evidence to the contrary.

Interesting... I arrived at faith in Christ through apologetics. In college I was learning a lot from Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris etc... No way did I want to believe in some Spaghetti monster... Turns out atheism is completely bankrupt and no other worldview comes close to being as compelling as Christianity. 🙌🙏

@Window4503

@@wexwuthor1776No, it’s not a put down any more than saying 2+2=4 is a put down to 5. If you view all religions as fantasy worlds people indulge in to feel good, then yeah that’s a put down to you, but it’s also your own secular way of thinking about religion as a whole. Believers of any religions are making a claim about reality itself for EVERYONE. It’s not a cute little hobby to put away when others disagree. In fact, by insisting on a “hobby” view, you actually insult every religion because you don’t take it as seriously as those who view it as a serious truth claim do despite their opposition. So with that in mind, what matters is which religion is true. And we’re arguing for our side based on evidence we have found. If someone wants to disagree they’re free to do that and provide their own arguments. But none of this “everyone has their own truth” stuff. It’s just as insulting to the people you think you’re standing up for.

apologetics undermines the authority of scripture and it leads people to think they are believers when in fact all they have is mental agreement to logical propositions: they agree that Christ rose from the dead because of "proof" but they do not have Christ

Scripture commands us to do apologetics (1Pet. 3:15). We are engaged in a battle of ideas. That is how we participate in spiritual warfare (2 Cor. 10:3-5).
