Some critique: -Using rain water if there is a nuclear disaster would contaminate your entire reservoir with irradiated water. Same for biological/chemical attack. -Hydroponics are a thing that exist, you can easily grow food underground. You can also raise animals underground. -Generators that run on ethanol are a thing that exist, devote a certain percentage of crops to ethanol production and never worry about running out of power. What you really need for a bunker: -A large space, enough to accommodate some utility rooms like: hydroponics, air scrubber/oxygen production room, water storage/desalination, lab/hospital. Housing for however many people you want to house and a recreation/entertainment room. -Aforementioned utility rooms/facilities -Information vault - basically an offline wiki of how to do everything you might need to do, in case something breaks down...your life will depend on you knowing how to fix it or work around the issue. Also how to make various medicines or treat/diagnose illnesses. -Seed vault - if you plan on surviving long term you need food, a large variation of plants/crops will make sure your dietary requirements are met -Tools equipment that you will not be able to make in an isolated situation as well as some raw materials for maintaining equipment/electronics: copper, plastic, steel, etc. -Some form of currency that will always be valuable such as gold/silver. -If you plan on being isolated you won't really need a massive weapons cache, since you plan on bunkering up your best choice for weapons will be something simple, short range, and with reduced risk of high speed ricochets in the enclosed space; shotguns. So my ideal bunker would be deep underwater in a large freshwater lake. [Pros] -Even if the water surrounding the bunker is contaminated, once you dig down far enough the water should be clean and you can then further filter/boil it for and extra layer of safety. -If any of your major life support systems fails you have an easy and safe escape. You don't have to worry about scavengers/raider/zombies in the middle of a large lake an inflatable/buoyant life boat tethered to the main structure in theory would give you a quick escape. -You don't have to worry about space, you can make the thing as big as your budget allows -Construction would be cheaper than digging a similarly sized structure. From what I've seen on underwater construction, all you have to do it make prefabricated structures and sink them. -Nuclear blasts on the surface aren't as much of a threat if you're underwater. [Cons] -Humans are not built to spend extended periods underground and there is a slight possibility you and your roommates will go insane, a possibility that increases the longer you spend underground. -You aren't completely safe from a nuclear blast, if a nuke lands into the lake and detonates your bunker is probably going to get crushed with you along with it -While you're safe from all natural disasters...except earthquakes which would be even more deadly than they usually are so avoid making your bunker near fault lines.

I have made a electric generator... I took a gas generator took the gas motor off and hooked up an electric motor to it and I have it hooked up in a way that it runs for free for ever... the battery powers the motor that spins the generator and then that generator powers everything I need along with recharging the battery that is powering the generator... the generator creates more power than what is being used by the electric motor so free never ending power and zero harmful gasses or waste...

assuming an unlimited budget and materials just build a mega refugee center on the moon......with a shelter under the moonscape as a countermeasure from meteorite strikes you can build facilities aboveground for producing all the products you need. You also have a virtually unlimited space for solar energy plants as well as enough space. for a nuclear reactor. Most of all who would be dumb enough to target the moon with no strategic value at all except for you who saw it as the site to build the ultimate fortress. Unless you pissed off Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Xi Jinping or someone else out there so bad that they would target your survival base.

Problem: Nuke hits nearby = good bye surface portion. You need to think GRANDER. Think ultimate concealment. Build the structure suspended on a massive set of hydraulic pistons. When you get confirmation that nukes are airborne, retract the pistons. Bring the entire complex underground, wall and all, so that it is not damaged in the initial blast. Once everything is settled down, deploy the rooftop solar panels and wind turbines, raise the wall start charging a massive battery bank, then, once the batteries are all charged up, use the power to raise the structure to normal height. Once the hydraulics have done their job, an automated system will seal the fluid in the pistons, preventing the structure from sinking. And, yeah, you would need at least one or two levels dedicated to hydroponics to make it truly survivable.

A few ideas: 1. Mine with explosives in the escape tunnel. Just in case the blast doors are breached. 2. Have a workshop with everything you would need. Lathe, 3D printer, forge and etc. 3. Vertical farming. 4. MSR reactor, preferably a Thorium one. 5. Biosphere set up. Lots of air, food and waste disposal. 6. A Star fortress design, but I like your slanted walls. (Side note: Due to the walls. I don’t think you’ll get much light to grow things) 7. A massive hanger for vehicles, aircraft’s and ships. 8. Close to airports, harbor and train system. 9. Close to certain mines. 10. Have the concrete walls line with Rhino coating with a faraday cage installed inside. 11. As much as possible have things run on gears. Since it’s easiest to recreate with supplies on hand. 12. Add hospital. 13. Tech room. Have servers hold as much knowledge as possible. Also add a communication there as well. 14. Have a gold and jewels bank vault. I think that’s a good start.

There's always room for improvement. First of all you need several of these places, not just one. You need not just to survive, but to reboot civilization, so several complexes would be advised. Now when it comes to security, imagine people getting to your fortress via an underground tunnel/s, you need to make sure they cant do that. Imagine people launching stuff to contaminate the ones inside and their crops, you need the stuff to prevent that as well. You don't need all those hatches to escape cause there will be no hurry to do so. An escape can be programmed, the hard thing is camouflaging the escape door/s with the natural environment in a cave system perhaps. All the rest you got it covered more or less.

I agree with your idea and i have multiple add-on, as you said, if you have an unlimited budget you could construct 1. underground farm using UV lights, replaced the top farm with something else (mention below) 2. air purification systems 3. also, put everything in the surface structure (gym, armory, etc.) and put it down in the underground section, there could be more solar panels and wind turbines, you could line the top of the curved walls with solar panels and on the top section of the surface tower. 4. hazmat and radiation suits, if there is a nuclear fallout, the surface is going to be filled with radiation so you need protection, you could line the suits with armor plates to prevent breaching of the suits and if you have it, line it with kevlar to protect against bullets and other wacky weapons raiders, looters and attackers may have.

@Tough Guy No. 1 the bathrooms would go under 'living quarters' I assumed. Kitchen gets mentioned specially because it's required to be big if there is going to be a lot of people plus the immediate storage for food to be made that week or less. Bathrooms don't need to be big. Although I do think separating the toilets from the bathing area frees up space & time spent in there especially if there's only going to be one bathroom but more than 5 people.

That was a very nicely put together video, well done. I'd only say ground source heat pumps were missing, just in case the sun is obscured by nuclear counterstrikes. Also as our costs are so close to a billion dollars, a concealed helicopter landing pad might have been handy - the building is already a good shape for it. The issue of keeping it inconspicuous above ground could have been achieved by having it pneumatically raise to a relevant height for protection, lowered to keep it discrete. Does make zombie issues a little trickle though. Entertaining stuff though, thanks!

You almost designed the perfect bunker. With the natural tendencies of human nature will want to explore after the events if it's possible. The bunker needs some form of carport or vehicle garage with the helipad. The question for garages how do you secure it and you need to have multiple entrances so people can't discover where your bunker or garage is located. Since money is not an issue and we just added a garage I think they will have a vehicle of some sort like a US military Stryker. A vehicle that cannot be toppled by a zombie horde. I didn't hear anything about a hospital. I'll also drill down to the water table to see if I can get fresh clean water if the water is not contaminated. Great job!

There's also something to be said for building it in a cooler environment, the Upper Midwest for example. If civilization collapsed and with it modern heating systems, a good winter with prolonged sub-zero conditions would either kill off or drive south a good portion of the population. That would mean a lot fewer desperate and potentially dangerous people wandering around the area.

@@donovanmallory True, but there would need to be a way to ensure nothing got stuck to the suit that could be harmful to the residents (for instance, stepping in toxic waste or airborn pathogens stuck to the suit via condensation or something) and if there's a leak in one of the sections, it would be wise to have a purification system in each section equipped with sanitization showers. Would rather be over prepared than have an unexpected issue cause major problems. If you don't sleep with one eye open all the time One time you wont wake up Almost all these bunker designs seem to forget that you need teams of guards or minions or engineers, maintenance people to run a place like most of the large designs presented on You Tube (Well with any appreciable size I mean) The small ones you just stuff up the air vents and they come out or die Then you need loyalty in the inhabitants Or you need fully automated or at least partially automated defenses (Which I think are a ways off in reliable designs ) And as all engineers know, things break down ,need repair, periodic or continual maintenance, etc How many of the bunker owners can fix everything in the bunker if it breaks, and how many have enough spare parts, and food and water and ammo to last for 5 to 10 years or however long the Catastrophe/Apocalypse lasts ? But the real problem if society breaks down is how many heavy weapons exist in the world ,Artillery, Tanks, APC's Helicopters ,Attack Copters, A 10s And how many trained killers from the various militaries around the world are suddenly out of a job and hungry I am not sure how that tower would like 1,350 30 MM Depleted Uranium rounds as a small example . Or heck just a Air to Ground missile or 2 I mean even if 95% of the worlds heavy weapons are destroyed the 5% left would still be a huge amount Shane you are so right Sorry I am so long winded going nowhere and having to stop all my RPGing all last year and until I get my shots in a couple months is getting to me Stay safe all

I would say colorado. Have plenty of water. The fallout will last months years. However fallout does go down. So initially being low will be great. Later it will be the problem. Since prepping is about surviving the initial attack then maybe be at the foot of high elevation. After several months move to the higher ground as the fallout moves down. Or high ground near ocean. After a few years the ocean will be good source of food. Ocean will quickly dilute poisons and go down to the biggest predators. Leaving the sardines and shrimp being wonderful sources of complex foods.

The one change I would recommend is relocate the structure to be an island in a river. The outward leaning walls make a zombie pyramid more difficult, but it could still happen. If you are surrounded by flowing water on all sides then the zombies will just get washed down stream and can't build up at all.

If we learned anything from “The Walking Dead” it’s that it ain’t the zombies or the nuclear fallout we should worry about, it’s the survivors. So that survival bunker will become a slaughterhouse very very quickly. Especially considering you have invited some friends to come share it with you. Your killer will be on the guest list.

one major issue for any fortress of any type... siege... you may have all these security systems in place but you need certain resources that require exposure to vulnerabilities... the best fortress is one that can be disguised, with outposts to defend from without exposing a home base. all of that requires a small army so the best defense is to band together... all the loners with their doomsday bunkers will be under siege and either burnt out, starved, suffocated, or whatever else.

I have an Idea What if we dug a very very deep hole to make a nuclear generator (because it's so deep down, and the living quarters are very far and sealed, it could probably create much energy to power the whole bunker and still having precautionary measures though when entering the area also there will be less radiation to escape) for the power

I would propose not making it as high as the video says. It only needs to be high enough to keep people out with ladders. Also, put a control environment on the roof something like a sealed thick layer of glass with a protective concrete shield that can open and close. Allowing the plants to get light while protecting from the outside contamination.

My 2cents worth of additions.... A level or two of hydroponics or aquaponics (which saves roof space for more solar/wind to power UV lights for the plants) is much more productive than regular farming plus space and water efficient plus removes possibility of contamination, air and water filtration with lots of redundancy and spare parts, entire empty levels/rooms for the inevitable build up of human waste. Also if you have enough money and space for the extra people who know how to run it, a small nuclear reactor, like the kind you find in nuclear submarines and some ice breakers would provide all the power you'd need for decades, you'd just need extra super insulated levels/rooms for it, spare super insulated levels/rooms for the waste, and the people with the know-how to operate it and enough space and supplies for them.

Interesting. I'm not a prepper but if you are, potatoes. They're the perfect survival food. They grow anywhere and in relatively poor soil and one could live off them pretty easily. They're full of calories and nutrients, starchy and filling. In fact, the potato lead to a population explosion when they were introduced to Europe. I suggest obtaining a few different varieties. There are blight resistant potatoes and potatoes that can grow at different altitudes and temperatures. Although they might be difficult to store. Potato plants don't have seeds. The potatoes are the seeds. So that might be an issue. For everyone else, I don't know why I'm so fascinated by potatoes.

I would of picked the upper part of michigan. 1. Your surrounded by lakes. 2. The upper top mitten part is not to crowded and towns and villages are far and few inbetween. 3. Rising sea levels will not affect michigan except for the evaporation of the lakes (the lakes will still be there, because they are massive, but the evaporation will lower the lakes levels and fierce storms will raise it). 4. The evaporation from the lakes will help a lot with collecting water and watering plants for food and if not then the water from the lakes can be distilled into clean water (close by water source, Michigan is called the Sahara Desert of freshwater for a reason). 5. you got a more leveled seeing view due to the land mostly not having very many hill's making the tower easier to defend distance wise. A nuke winter would be the opposite and a frozen wasteland to where you have to grow food indoors (and so forth). Downside is that many people will think of going north to Canada (no matter what the earth shattering event) or more north. So you will have a fight on your hands. More than likely people that are already living there most likely to survive a lot better (but it is still going to be hard with many challenges to overcome). The odd seasons will mess with crops and wildlife.

if there is nothing else you can remember from sun-tzu (the art of war guy), just remember tactical mobility or tactical fluidity. its your adaptability to any situation, which usually involves constant movement, to remain as slippery as possible for as long as you can to your enemies (or to the things you have identified are inimical to your welfare and good health). this is how jason bourne has remained alive despite all the odds against him (a fictional story, with viable strategies very very applicable in real life), this is how noah outlasted the flood, and which is why in the movie 2012 they chose to build arks instead of anything else, like an underground bunker. having a fortress over land (an immovable fortress) is a definite no no, this completely removes your tactical mobility from your personal survival equation. even in feudal times, sun-tzu thinks its way way better to be a small group riding on horses constantly moving in the woods (or even just on foot), than having a castle with very strong walls, because once those walls will give in (especially if you face a very determined well-prepared enemy), you may consider suicide if you have not given yourself any option to run (that underground escape tunnel might be improved if it were a network of interconnecting non-terminating (no dead-ends!) tunnels, of course secured by several doors (compartmentalized into several sections), each, leading to several escape hatches; if one exit is compromised, you still have hope in other exits). having a land fortress is like painting a bullseye on your back, a large very visible very secure safehouse technically invites everyone out there to ransack you, you are displaying strength, at a time of weakness ("there must be tons of goodies in there, i'm starving"). even in a zombie apocalypse, its the living that is your most dangerous enemy. my point: its way better to turn a sea-worthy ship into your fortress, a mobile fortress, a domicile you can maneuver anywhere, to be further modified and reinforced in the future to suit your needs and current situation (in the apocalypse, there's not much else to do, except to further secure your survival), and sail yourself out of anybody's reach, far out at sea. you should choose a ship that's big enough for your group's needs, as well as sufficient area for farming (because you need to think this is your new lifestyle now, until you will die, everywhere else the world is no longer livable; stockpiling on food is stupid, you need to make your own food, you need to maintain cows and pigs and chickens). in the worst-case scenario that some folks have resorted to piracy, and try to board your ship by force, then you should slowly acquire and install on that vessel long-range weapons to combat them, if you can develop from salvaged parts a powerful laser emitter that can punch a hole into a pirate ship (or inbound attack planes) at the horizon every one second, the better (the less your weapon relies on loading ammo, the better; heavily shield this primary weapon with a few feet of steel sheets, you're a sitting duck if it disappears).
@bellatibay6784
@bellatibay6784 4 жыл бұрын
now that you're one of the only few living people left, you need to think in terms of "off-grid living" and of operating like a small country, with you as its one-man government (or the number of the people in your group), you need to maintain a small simple sustainable ecosystem for your food supply (plants sustain farm animals, animals sustain you, your shit sustains plants, etc.), and off-grid power sources for your machines and weapons (solar panels, savonius vawt's, etc.)

Triple redundancy for every function and triple triple redundancy for important functions (Like water purification, Food growth, power generation & distribution [Wind, Solar, geo thermal, hydro electric], etc.) A system of laws/ rules to help keep everyone in line - simple is best. Death penalty is a must, as you cannot risk ignorance or stupidity, or out-rite aggression to run free. Two strikes and you're out (The first mistake could be an accident, but there is no room for repetition of said mistakes). Multiple hidden escape hatches. A space for livestock (small animals like chickens and pigs - which help with food waste). Interior farms for food production. fully stocked medical centre with disease control protections. A lab for research and development. A small lake/ reservoir for growing fish/ aquaponics - to diversify food production. An incinerator for waste removal & heat production, and an alternative source of energy. A manufacturing space for production of essential goods. A 3D printer capable of making guns (and every-day items). A robotics lab capable of drone production. A space for oxygen production (algae culture) A repository of all human knowledge - or as much as you can gather in a single place. Digital is the only solution for this to be practical. But a few physical books are always good to have on hand. Artificial views and simulated air currents. A space dedicated to recreation. State-of-the-art sanitation & recycling spaces. Storage spaces for food, purified water, raw materials, etc. Living quarters for at least a couple dozen engineers, doctors, tradesmen, security & specialists (among others). You will need to know how to fix anything that breaks within the facility. probably about 100 people once their immediate family is included (Max 4/5 per family). Everyone must have the same features to prevent in-fighting or dominance. Space to grow the population. A communications space Armory. Proper seals between every space to prevent contamination if something enters the facility. Bows & Arrows, crossbows, swords, spears and shields are definite weapons to have when the ammunition runs out, unless you can make more. Think earthship - but mostly underground. People will always be the biggest threat. Well... this was fun. :)

Surprised a hydroponic farm wasn't discussed some even have a connecting fish farm. A hydroponic farm is where plants are grown without soil, nutrients is poured into water to let them grow, a fish farm helps because it gives the water the nitrogen and other stuff the plants can use to grow. So if your budget was really unlimited. The only thing you really need to worry about is power, and clean air and sustainable water supply.

Nice video, but you forgot to address the critical flaw with this plan. It's a fixed location. In a dooms day scenario, the most dangerous element are the other folks who also survived the initial disaster (and are now doing whatever they can to get to your resources). The best plan/location would be moving platform out at sea. Large enough to grow your own food/livestock, and enough surface area for solar/wind generators. If the main fuel source was nuclear, you would have enough fuel to last many lifetimes. Being in the ocean, you can desalinate or collect rain water, also moving away from inclement weather. Recycling of waste for fertilizer or fuel/heat. Lower level decks would have storage for other nonperishable raw materials (for repairs, machines, etc.), Machineshop, chem lab, living quarters.

If I add my piggy bank to your piggy bank, that's like two whole piggy banks to pay for this thing!

Like the design but with all the electronics you listed your going to need a lot more solar panels and larger rain water collector, id suggest a bore or well you could pump water out of deep below the ground. As well as removing the second pillar, it draws a lot attention which will happen no matter what if someone happen to come across it. But the over all designs is fantastic the curved wall and multiple doors in the tunnel are functional designs. And you could easily survive two or three people in that much space, more if you cut down on nonessential.
