I mass produce Beacons, then set compass view distance to short range on the map - I label major outputs / power pole interconnects / etc that way. I'd vastly prefer labels / signposts or some such, but the beacons work fine for a good while.

You can't look for the dark one when the bulbs are wired in series, like the older strings used to be. Modern strings are wired in parallel, allowing any number of bulbs to be blown, and all the good bulbs will still work. Those older, series strings? One blown bulb would shut the whole string down, leaving you to work your way down the whole thing one by one, checking them individually to see which one burnt out.

What youre using and what you need to start consumes different amounts of power, not all machines run at once when production is on but during start up, every machine needs power to fill its internal buffer even if it doesnt need to do work, so essentially all machines use all the power on start up. Its the exact same in real life factories, sections must be turned on at different times to prevent in rush current tripping the main breaker

No, because there are no buffers that need to be filled. Any machine that will be running starts up at the same time, and if you plan out your factory (like Kibitz did) only the turbofuel and trains will fluctuate.

Wouldn't it be helpful if when a power line in live, that it maybe has a blue line to show its live instead of black, it could save alot of time in this situation I think. also im not a fan of the default black wires, they can be hard to see sometimes. I remember the first time I was handling fluids. I was powering my base off 8 fuel burners at a remote site at the Islands (Gold Coast), by turning Crude Oil into Fuel and Polymer resin which was being converted to plastic and rubber. The storage bins for plastic and rubber filled and backed up, shutting down the refineries making plastic, leading to the polymer resin backing up and stopping fuel production. The burners used all the fuel and shut down, leaving just five coal burners trying to power the entire map. I had to walk down the railway line I'd built all the way to that site to fix things. Oh, and the wild life respawned. I had an Alpha Spitter spawn in my base so that was fun. Not. I just used the resource sink to take any excess polymer resin for the time being until I built my current generating station on an off shore platform in the North (with hopefully about 7 IRL hours of reserve should something go wrong again), and converted the Islands station to make Petroleum Coke, for aluminimum production, and plastic and rubber.

I might be wrong on this, but I think the fuse counts all machines connected to it when you pull the power lever. - Even if the machines aren't running normally, if only for a brief second. It knocks the power out because of this, but won't under normal circumstances as not all machines are (then) running all the time.
@Mirality
@Mirality 4 жыл бұрын
It's because the belts keep running when the power's off. That unloads the outputs and loads the inputs such that more machines will be ready to run when the power comes back on than were running when the power first blew.

Hey Kibz, It finally happened, huh? Been there, done that. Hours of searching and fixing and seperating power grids. What movie is this? ImKibitz - Raider of the Lost Powerplant ? Anyways - It seems you're missing the recipe for the alternate High-Speed connectors. You should look into that ^.~ it drops the amount of Quickwire per Connector from 56 down to 30. Assuming you'll make Silicone Circuit Boards all you need is copper / quartz / caterium to make the Connectors. Fun episode as always, tho too short. As always xD Nice work ^.~

i like to have a single electric line branch out to portions of production wings this way you can easily bring power back online (for those who don't get it all you would need to do is disconnect a line to some production wings) also. awesome sinks works perfectly for taking off the overflow of items you cant store. use some smart splitters and there you go.

I had this issue with bootstrapping my northern coast oil power plant (e.g. extracting and pumping water after power went out because I overbuilt on the fuel generator grid...). While doing the overflow tanks is a good idea for a "battery" I ended up using the 9 Geysers in the area to create a closed-loop power source to avoid the bootstrap or time sensitivity. 1800W constant reliable power. Each geyser can power 10x Water Extractors at 100%, so that's 180 extractors @100%. I ended up only building 150 extractors, and used the remaining power is for the couple of pumps and a bit over buffer in case I need to tie something else in for emergency. I'm hellbelt on not going nuclear power, so it's nice to have one oil power plant that can be 100% efficient power generation with its use.
@ThatGoth
@ThatGoth 4 жыл бұрын
This is why my power plants were on a separate grid connected with one pole and my excess production goes in to the bin (which I had to do manually because i'm not on experimental) so my oil never backs up. I was able to disconnect one pole, leave the system to start generating a balance power while disconnected and then hook the base back up (sometimes adding an extra generator).

i tried something similar to this yesterday. chasing ghosts for a while until i realized i had cut off some water supply and that resulted in coal powerplants slowly ran out of water causing power drops and eventually lead to it failing. now that section got upgraded and got their own circuit so its easy to charge that group up in case it happens again. what game need is a insta suicide command. ive gotten stuck so many times and in that state you cant dismantle the structures . got forced to revert to a recent save several times now.

The headway on your water packaging plant is off by just a small bit btw, noticed while you were giving your tour. Water was making it to the first floor but not the floors after. Also you should check out the new video on headway mechanics. If you were to make use of the lake up on the cliffside nearby, you can save a ton of power for your water pipe spine.

Machine that isnt wotking doesnt consume electricity. But then you finish your line and boom everything turns on and you're screwed. You could make some backup powerplant i guess storing resources overflow for this case scenario. Its not necessary, but blackout is worst thing that can happen to you and having 10-20% backup for that case could keep your factory alive untill you build more generators.

Gave me flashbacks of my power grid constantly failing, until I started working on my nuclear power. Had to start small to keep my power going long enough to get the plants online, currently only making 4 fuel rods/m, total build will make 31.5 fuel rods/m, maxing out the uranium for 158 nuclear plants. Tired of dealing with the water lines though, 158 pipes is a lot.

I would have built the mega train station on top of the fuel generators. That way you don't have your whole base surrounded on all sides with large structures and you can nicely square out the train station on top of the generators. Really liking where this base is going. And now you can start making more and more with all the new trains and all the new materials that will be coming in. Any plans to share you save file again soon? I know you shared one several videos back.

You could alternatively use the fuse box as you intended instead. It was made so that you could disconnect different systems so that in the event of a blowout like this, you can turn on everything else slowly, since you still simply don't have the capacity to run every single machine in your world simultaneously - that's why it went down in the first place, because eventually enough started up at the same time to overload it. At least you know now. If you don't already, you might want to write that sort of thing down, I recall you messing with old plans before as well. For next time, disconnecting the train network, and by extension, all of the places it leads to (since the tracks are the power lines), would likely solve the issue as Petropolis is one of those places. That is, provided you don't mess up further power production. Hyped for the long video, too, by the way.

Yar, I color coded based on level of importance to the current project. Also, when you try to start a large electrical load, the required initial current is greater than that required. If you put everything in standby and started the power plant, then went one by one to the standby machines it would ease the load on the grid. I think you had the right idea at first, but your idea of a small load is still too BIG. :D

Hey, Kibitz, there have been some interesting discoveries with regards to fluids recently. Apparently if you have a source that's high up, it'll pressurize the system below it to the point you don't need pumps. So if you had a reservoir right at the top of your base, being fed with a little packaged fluids, it'll virtually never get used, but will provide "Head" to the entire system and mean that any pipes below won't require pumps at all, up to the height of the reservoir. Neat, huh?

I went several thousand volts under my demands because I was relying on fuel generators, and had a system for shipping the polymer resins from my generator complex to my industrial complex. Then, the conveyer belts clogged up, no fuel was being made, the generators died. If I had not been able to use packaged fuel and bio generators to run emergency fuel to my generators then the effort to disconnect enough stuff would have been so massive that I might would have given up. Remember, before you head out, always make sure you are not losing power. Keep the storage full and the backups ready.

Eventually they will need to add signs you can place on walls or on the floor to mark things. would make the giant fusebox much easier to manage if you could label which lines go to which places so you can easily go "this goes here so if i turn this off then it wont be using power and i can fix that" bam power back up and running. at least i hope they add something like that eventually. also would be nice if they begin optimizing the game because for a game all about building factories and optimizing production on a massive scale across a giant map, having massive lag when you make a larger factory really is annoying.

So the bug this surfaces is the lack of a FUSE device for the power lines? Has this been mentioned? A Settable FUSE device. Would that solve your problem? With a global way to monitor the fuse devices too.. Sort of like the SCADA devices that IRL grids use. ;)

When you load in your game, it looks like all your machines seem to start for a split second. Even if they are full, this has crashed my grid too. The best way to solve this is to stagger powering your machines.

Misinformation of mine, Pedro means rock in latin, and rock in latin is petri, petroleum has this name because its means oil from rock. That's why Jesus talk: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church", Peter is Pedro em portuguese and it means rock.

Nice videos and have been following on and off as I have been waiting on this game for steam and wanting to keep up with the general state of the game and not spoil it. Just picked it up, and found out it requires a tie in for Epic even if you buy from steam, now waiting on a refund. Pity that a game I have looked forward to for so long I'm still going to wait or just skip.

You know you can save a lot of power by removing most your pumps. If it isnt patched, you only need pumps on a pipe network above the level of the highest source on that network. So in theory you can run a single pressurised pipe up to the top to feed a storage container to become a source. Then run it down and split it into the rest of the upwards pipes, that then wouldn't need pumps. It doesn't matter about the amount being provided from the highest source, just that there is flow from that source. And the lower sources will fill up that amount of flow without the need for pumps. I would suggest testing it out in a experiment.
