These podcasts turning into two very genuine perspectives about navigating content creation and internet fame is so unique. People come out with this stuff later once everything’s said and done, but hearing Mem’s account in real time about how it feels, contrasted with Austin’s perspective from his position on KZbin is so interesting. Never stop being you guys

Interesting tidbit about the Spanish flu, it was only called that because Spain was the only major country being hit by it that didn't have wartime censorship laws in place, so even though by most accounts it likely started either on a farm in Kansas or among railroad laborers in Canada, it became known as the Spanish flu due to them readily reporting on the pandemic and the Allies and Central press being able to report on the pandemic in Spain but nowhere else.

I had a dream last night that I had a job interview with Austin (no idea what the job was but he asked me great questions) and it went pretty well and then I was invited to live in a house with both Austin and Mem (the place was huge but I saw no sign of anyone's families, I guess it was some sort of gamer house?) and the whole experience was awesome. Then I woke up and thought about how this parasocial relationship had sunk its tentacles DEEP into my subconscious. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I'm going to listen to this episode of the podcast and hope that my subconscious doesn't try to make deeper parasocial connections!

I absolutely adore how this podcast has a super casual relationship with structure. No segments, no forced topics, no ad breaks -- just a stream of consciousness from two lovely and funny people. I lost it when Austin, after a very introspective few minutes about Karaoke, anxiety, and self-awareness about turning casual conversations into therapy, he goes "How do you feel about... putting your seat back on an airplane?"

P.S you guys need to play liars dice in red dead red redemption 1 online. Good podcast setting.

Good for you to start your journey. Everyone has their reasons. I'll share mine. I did the same thing, I only drink for very special occasions now like holiday family dinner, just for the flavor enhancment, and not to get buzzed/drunk. From 30 to 33 I chose to not drink one drop because I had gone through a TBI. I learned that alcohol caused disassociative relapses and it scared me so I gave it up completely. I broke my 3y sobriety when I lost my job in 2023, but I'm back to just the rare glass at Thanksgiving.

Besides being like 7 and encountering the awkardness of seeing nudity for the first time with my parents, my favorite quote is “Paint me like one of your French girls” because it is always associated with corny advertisement poses. One thing I enjoyed with this episode and the club penguin episode was yall standing around in a public session completely still while things around you go into chaos. People running around, people chatting, and on occasion they interact with you sometimes with near mannequin like responce to their circumstance. I was in the navy, on a cruiser, that has motors and isn't powered by wind, and it took 2 weeks to cross the atlantic at about 30mph.

I have the same opinion about the seat as Austin. Also I have flown on a plane nearly every year of my life and have recognized the atmosphere and design of the interior have changed over time. The windows have gotten smaller, the space under the chair where you put your carry-on is smaller, the space you sit in is getting smaller, but the seats are about the same size, if anything its likely the space has been reduced about an inch width wise. The height of your space is reduced as well, I used to beable to comfortably stand under my seat with my shoulder touching the overhead, (meaning my head is cocked forward looking to the side or down at my feet).

On the topic of notoriety: last year I started a small publication with a few of my friends. We attended a writing/publishing conference in our city a few weeks after our first issue came out, and people *knew* us. We walked into a few rooms and got recognized, had someone shout us out at a panel, had someone else tell us that they had just reviewed our magazine on their podcast - - all people we didn't know and who we had little to no knowledge of whatsoever. It just felt absolutely wild. Now this is a totally different scale from what yinz are talking about. We were recognized by people in our city who operate in the same, insular community as us. But still, that experience was striking. People are paying attention to our thing, to us, the people who run it. It's a real paradigm shift, knowing people are watching you. There's no escaping that as long as the project continues. Very strange to reckon with.

I watched this episode as I work on a youtube video of my own. Although it would be nice to be able to make a living off of making shitty animations, I don't think I'll ever get very popular. But if I do I never want to be recognized in public. The idea of some random person walking up to me and being like "oh my gosh I love your videos" is a little terrifying. So it's always interesting to me when people use their real name and/or associate it with their real face as a content creator. You've both been getting a lot of attention recently so I liked hearing you talk a little bit about how it feels.
