Yup. PS2/XBOX/Dreamcast/Gamecube era was best imo. They actually had drastically different libraries from each other, and gave you a reason to want to own all the consoles. Plus games came out quicker, and a lot of the games were fresh new ideas, compared to all these safe games we get now.

You are grown now, you've seen and experienced a lot, and memories have a funny way of distorting facts. For instance, do you remember being bored as a kid? You probably were, but the lasting memories are when you were the most happiest and the most saddest, and in this instance you are remembering the happiest of moments, and it feels like they were happening all the time. Personally I distinctively remember playing a single video game over and over and over, and I enjoyed it. Nowadays, I just do not do that. Anyways, all I want to say is humans have a funny way of idealizing the 'good-old-days' when criticizing things today.

+Mlu007M Age has nothing to do with it. Yes there are some games that give me a nostalgic feeling, but that doesn't mean the game was good(Paperboy comes to mind). The 6th generation of consoles were just the best imo. And I'm still collecting games for them that I missed out during that period. Just bought 30 games for PS2 this week. My collection for the PS2 is over 120 games that I enjoy. And that's just PS2. I didn't even mention the others. Plus games during that time used their hardware more appropriately and ran games better than most games today. It's sad that 2 of the strongest consoles in history struggle to get 60fps, yet majority of games on consoles over a decade old, did it just fine. I don't know if I would say this is the WORST. It's a tie between this gen and last gen for me. Since last gen was mostly shooters(which I don't care about), and Japanese titles were kinda meh(things are getting better now).

This video is on point 100%.Back in the day a next gen system would drop jaws everytime when released,the leap in techology always felt significant,I'll never forget the first time I saw Sonic 2 on Genesis or the intro to Tekken 2 on PS1,how amazing games like MGS2 and Halo felt early in the 6th gen then online gaming last gen,nothing about this current gen has felt amazing in anyway to me,its almost like last gen remastered so far.I see why alot of old console gamers are going to PC now to get that next gen feel with graphics and performance.

What I think of this gen? This gen hasnt even started yet. 2016 will be the year when the exclusives will start raining down. These consoles were released too early, but Im patient, so I dont care really. I already have plenty to play in multiplats. The witcher is taking most of my time I can wait till march when games like uncharted and street fighter start dropping and ratchet and clank and eventually horizon Zero dawn and TLG. This gen is still young and I think its going to last 5 more years because it hasnt started. 2016 will be the first true year of PS4. And I know this gen the consoles are oudated but I dont think sony will release a console before 2020. Dont get me wrong, Im no fanboy, this is all sony and microsoft`s fault for releasing this early and incomplete console. Goddamn Im still waiting for folders and a good notification and friends system and name change and storage of movies on my PS4. But maybe sony would not exist anymore if it wasnt for the ps4 if they waited. So whatever, they did what they had to do to survive.

I find myself playing more on my laptop, 3ds or my older consoles. Whenever i go into a game store and look at the xbox one and ps4 sections... I think it attributes to age. I am an older gamer as well. We aren't falling for gimmicks like a teenager or child would. The last game that excited me was the trailer for NBA 2K14 for the PS4. When I saw those graphics it was like going from Playstation one to Dreamcast. We have saw it all. These younger gamers are just getting the same experience we had growing up. We are the dinosaurs in this industry. Most of these games are geared towards them. When we played games there wasn't an on the fly tutorial, you read the directions from the little booklet that came with the game and learned as you played. Now when you pop a game in it puts you in situations and tells you how to get out of them. These gamers are coddled. Older gamers will probably never get that nostalgia back.

The cost of making games keeps rising. That is one of the reasons why games are not making the leaps and strides they used to. Companies like Activision will just keep riding Call of Duty and playing it safe because its easier to play it safe with a game you know will sell 20 million than take a chance on something new that may not.

i was born in 1995 so i dint get to play every generation new. but i sorta started off slowly. nes, snes, ps1 (ps1 had good games like spyro the dragon and frogger) then ps2 and gameboy color,advance,sp,ds,game cube, you name it. then psp and then xbox 360 and ps3. now i have ps4 xbox one and pc. but to be honest i think that pc is the only next gen experince. i forgot to mention but i had a n64. that and ps2 were the most creative game experience i have ever played in my life.

I traded my PS3 in for the wii to play Mario cart around the time assassins creed 2 , operation flashpoint dragon rising, killzone 2 were in my rotation I was that bored but had so much fun with Mario cart.I'll eventually pick up a ps4 but only for just cause 3 and uncharted 4.. I want a new fresh never before seen type of game that's what this generation needs and I'm not sure where it's going to come from and no a red dead redemption 2 isn't going to be it.

In order to take advantage of a 4k T.V. (that is 50'') you would have to sit literally 2.5 feet away to actually benefit from the visual upgrade. I don't know about you, but I would wager a bet that most people don't sit that close to their television sets.

Robert Sink People usually do with monitors. I do agree a little bit with the 4k not being massive, but it's still WAYY better than the console graphics this generation. I believe it will be a short cycle indeed. Next in line for PC will be 8k by 8k, like the Square Enix [witch] demo showed. After that will be just scanning real life objects into a gaming engine, which is something that's already being done.

But, in terms of 4k/higher pixel values, I personally don't really see the benefit. 4k sort of makes sense for PC gamers, b/c yeah they'll sit close to their screens. In terms of pixel values, there's really nothing left to do. However, the OLED's can provide greater color contrast. Aside from that, they can also work on improving dynamics etc. There is still room for improvement, but for the most part, I don't really think we'll see *THAT* big of an improvement ever again.

Hard8 you were in 7gens because you missed PS2 going off what you said on WWP. Now as far as worst gen... I would say this would be second because of all the Greed and underpowered Consoles. Paying for online Microtransactions, DLC. Games not running at 60FPS. The first or second Gen takes that one since thats when the Game Crash was taking place. This would have been great with Games Like Destiny and Watch Dogs if it wasn't for the Greedy and Underpowered technology. I think MGSV and Witcher 3 are great examples. MGSV runs at the standard 1080 60fps. They both give you a wealth of content. We've got more games then we ever had before. I guess its the christmas effect. Christmas gets less special the older you get. Once you find out Santa Claus is a Coke mascot it kinda ruins the magic.

Hard8, you're so right. This is the first generation I've ever experienced (only been gaming since N64/ PS1 gen to be fair) where I'm just not excited for gaming. I was thinking that maybe I was just growing out of playing games but that's not it at all - its just that there's absolutely nothing I want to play on these consoles. I go back to The Last Of Us Remastered every now and then to play online and I just finished God Of War 3 Remastered but in terms of new games, there's nothing. Maybe it'll change next week when Fallout comes out but for now, my PS4 is a Netflix machine.

Here's the hard truth- With each of the last few generations, consoles have gotten closer and closer to being a watered-down PC. Sony and Microsoft both went with X86 processors (underpowered ones), and GPUs that are slightly neutered midrange AMD 7700/7800 series products. There was just no way that the "wow" factor was going to be there with that hardware, when it comes to graphics. If you want a "next gen" gaming experience, you need to build a PC. Set aside $700+, and build a gaming rig. As far as SW Battlefront goes- You're nuts if you think that can run on the last generation consoles. Play that at high/ultra settings at 1080p or higher on a nice gaming PC, and tell me how that could run on the XB360 or PS3.

First off, I appreciate the feedback on the music tip 8. Secondly, you're right, I don't feel the same way about this gen as with times past. I feel better. Now this generation is far from perfect but nostalgia aside there has never been a better time to be a gamer. There is something for everyone, no matter your platform or genre preference. To this day I still don't understand how gamers complain about not having anything to play. I mean I can't find enough time to play all the games I have and my library is still relatively small on all three platforms. Sure this generation is littered with shady practices but which generation wasn't? The only reason we know so much about it now is because we live in a digital age where information really can't be contained. No matter how small we'll know, we might not know everything but we'll know something. Gaming is better now than ever and all gamers need to do to fight bad developer/publisher habits is turn their backs.

Developers are going to have to almost completely rely on creativity to push their games. both graphically and gameplay wise. Maybe VR is towards that push? They gotta keep working on it. Agree with this fully. Games like GoldenEye007 on N64, Halo 1 on the original Xbox, MarioKart64 and a plethora of others. All of these games had story modes that you didn't wonder where the rest of the story was, as well as some of the most fun multiplayer experienced. Games that made you feel like you got your moneys worth. --- Now we get "Next Gen" games like Destiny, Black Ops 3, Halo 5, and Battlefront, where at the end, and sometimes the beginning (Battlefront), you find yourself saying, "Where the fuck is the story?" and "Is my game broken? why is there an area here with nothing in it?" and "What a waste of money" or simply "WTF!!". That definitely don't feel like you're getting your moneys worth. --- How do you go from Halo 1,2,3, ODST, and REACH, All fantastic Co-op story games, to a shit story like Halo 4 & 5? You'd think the foundation was laid so thick and structured that it'd be impossible to screw them up. But 343 did an awesome job of it, seemingly focusing on the PvP aspect and ruining the Story we all knew and loved. --- I blame it on the Greed of the companies. It's so obvious the way they break apart games like Destiny (literally the biggest culprit of Shady tactics) and sell it back to you with DLC, that the money is all that matters. Making a great game is no longer the focus. (If Destiny TTK was the 1st release, I guarantee that would be the most popular game out, obliterating sales from Black Ops 3, Halo 5, and Battlefront to this day and would've set a High standard for Next Gen Gaming) --- I understand companies need to make money, but Great games keep people playing. Ruining the reputation of games only makes people find other things to do, and the future of the company will be doomed, which now that I think about it might be why so many game companies are going under. --- It also seems odd to me that, it's like there isn't creativity like there used to be. Like all "New" games out are just rehashing the same old story within a new Name/skin, almost the exact same way Movies are nowadays. I'm not saying the game mechanics have to be totally different in every game, because some game mechanics are phenomenal (Batman Arkham Knight), but the stories should be. That's what drives a Great game imo. For example, Halo 1 had some clunkyness to it's mechanics but the story was so engrossing that you barely noticed.

Graphics are not nearly as important as they used to be. Comparing this generation to the ATARI and NES generation is like comparing apples and oranges. On the ATARI you had a boxing game where they didn't have legs or torso's just a head and some arms. So of course there was a wow factor when the Nintendo came out,because it was a big upgrade in graphics. Now we have reached the golden age in gaming at best you will see marginal improvements in graphics. Games now are as realistic looking as they are ever going to need to be. What gaming developers going to do keep enhancing the graphics until they look like some cheesy looking full motion game? I say no they should just focus on improving the quality of game play.

Just want to put my 2 cents into this subject. Hard8, i agree with most of the things you said in this video, yes this generation is lacking good games, but for a PC Gamer like me, i play a lot of last gen and current gen games. 2014 just left a bad taste in people's mouths about this gen, yes Watch Dogs and Destiny were a disapointment but that doesn't mean all the games were bad. This is why you need to control your excitement about future game releases because if the hype gets too high then the game won't reach it's potential with what people were expecting. You had a lot of good games this gen too such as Mad Max, The Evil Within, GTAV PC and Newgen remake, Alien Isolation, Shadow of Mordor, Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed 4, Battlefield 4 the list goes on. Now what really pisses me off is how widespread Micro-transactions are getting and how game companies are thinking it's a good thing when it really isn't. Yes i know people, gaming right now isn't what you expected but i'm sure if you just control your excitement about future game releases i'm sure you'll enjoy it more. I'm very, very, very excited for Fallout 4, maybe even a bit too much but imagine if games like Destiny or Watch Dogs wasn't that hyped, would you have enjoyed it? Same with other games that you expected too much from. I myself have a neutral stance this gen but if you play a mix of last gen and current gen games then you'll enjoy yourself, another reason why i love PC is that "last" gen games isn't considered last gen. You can say last gen graphics cards but that's about it (Not trying to sound like an elitist). Fallout 4 is coming and so is a lot of other games.

This generation is easily the most unimpressive, and sorry no its not because we were kids back then. Kids now aren't really impressed by what the PS4 and Xbox One have to offer and would rather stay with last gen like Solidrev's son for example. There's a lot of kids like that nowadays. I was gonna get a PS4 but I can't find many advantages when I could use that money to upgrade my PC to Skylake.

I completely agree with you! This is the reason the last gen (Xbox 360) was my last console gen. I was so disappointed in the performance of the Xbox one and ps4 that I moved to pc. At least with each game release the graphics improve, without the cost of content destruction.

Here is a good idea for a troll video. Have the intro pause at the white ps1 screen and leave it like that (like back when we used to play the ps1 we had to wait and hope that the black ps1 screen comes up so we can get to play the game instead of taking the disc out and putting it back on).

Well. To me. As a person who doesn't have a fancy recording equipment.. The PS4 has WOWed me with their access to record and upload, and stream (which I don't have the Internet for that.. and yes I do know PC had that lol). To me that has been my particular WOW factor upgrading from a PS3 to PS4

Completely agree. The N64 and PS2 was amazing for me. Bioshock was my first game of last gen and what a way to start that off. So far the only game that has blown me away entirely this gen is The Witcher 3. This current gen is just an extension of all the bad things of last generation, (broken unfinished launch titles, day one DLC, microtransactions, shitty framerates). And it's not gonna get any better

You right about the graphics however the consumers are the ones to be blamed for that. People complained when the PS3 was 500-600 dollars out the gate. I never complained I bought my PS3 while in high school with my first job as a Warehouse worker. But the little kids who needed their parents too buy it wasn't about to fork up 600 bucks for a console. I believe that has a direct effect on why we didn't see a graphical leap this generation. Sony saw the mistake and they paid for it in the beginning of that generation. So now we see everyone trying to stay in that 400 dollar range which is cheap as hell because we now have dated technology from the gate. The only major thing developers have now to work with is the more ram. I feel that 8gb of ram should be the minimum specs but Sony and Microsoft advertise it like it was such a big deal when its not.

I'm having fun this gen, but I'm avoiding most of the "AAA" stuff. I'm currently playing through Wasteland 2 and finishing up Deus Ex: HR to get ready for Mankind Divided. I've been leaning towards premium indies, or games that have a decent size budget but not so big that they can't take risks. Fact is a lot of the "AAA" stuff already feels very samey, and it's just gonna get worse as budgets go up.

Alot has changed with gaming. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. When technology couldn't provide the "realism" that gaming has today, the emphasis was more on core gameplay. Games were actually fun back then. Now? not so much. There also is no creativity going into these games anymore and it seems as if they are marketed toward a different audience (not us old school gamers). I have a PS4 and sadly enough, I haven't played it in well over 3 months. There just isn't anything out there that I am interested in playing nor is anything coming out that is even remotely interesting to me. You said that this current generation will last 5 years? Well, I'll stick with my PS4 for two more years and then I am quitting gaming for good(if I don't quit before then). Not to mention, I just do not have the patience or attention span anymore to play games. I will not purchase anymore consoles after this one. We are the "baby boomers" of the gaming generation. We're all pushing mid-thirties and it's just probably time for us to retire from gaming.
