Congrats on the extra dopamine!🎉 Your not bad, this is another technique ADHDers use to positively reinforce task completion and developing routine. It's not cheeting, its providing your brain with the dopamine hit it should have gotten when you completed that task. Neurotypicals get it, but they call it a feeling of accomplishment. Writing it down and crossing it off after the fact is training/assisting your brain to give you that dopamine hit you deserve for finishing that task!

Have you considered meds for your ADD? It could help you a lot.
@chrisrose37517 күн бұрын
Ooh! I found this helps me (adhd, anxiety too) maybe it can help you. Write it ALL down and dont worry about putting it in any order. Then you can use something like the Eisenhower matrix, SMART goals, or other technique to organize them. Whats important is to write down everything 1st then prioritize. This separates the thinking of everything and prioritizing thought processes. For me I get stuck trying to prioritize and rembering everything. I get overwhelmed worrying if im forgetting something and 2nd guessing my prioritising cause i was trying to think of things at the same time. It also means less erasing lol.

As someone with adhd I relate to your time management struggles SOOOO much it’s so sad. I’m in college right now and I struggle to get all my work done efficiently too. Sadly I also put things off until their less ideal getting distracted with other things My biggest problem right now is I’ll only be able to focus in on school work past 8pm half the time so it means I stay up too late getting work done instead of doing it sooner at more ideal times. 💀 I want so badly to fix this problem but I will literally zone out and hours will have passed without me realizing it and I’ll have only gotten one or two things done. So I’m with you!!! I agree with other commenters. Please. Get your family to help! If nothing else they’ll force you to stay on track! When I go out and do things with friends I find myself more focused because they keep me on track instead of allow my mind to wonder because it’s ruder and worse to do that when your keeping others time up as well and not just your own! Also half your projects sound big! And like something you shouldn’t do alone. Like construction work! Also can I just say as a p.s: this feels like a lot better content for you to discuss in terms of disabilities bc adhd is something it seems you personally have so you can talk much more personally and from a place of experience with struggling with adhd, while when you discuss Abbie’s struggles it’s always gonna be from an outsider point of view. So I do feel the discussion on ADHD is much cooler to see as it’s a part of your lived experience internally and externally, and probably healthy to discuss and open up about for you!

A list. Oh, I would hyperventilate writing it all down! I am new to figuring out ADHD. I'm 58 and realized after watching so many videos of people talking about ADHD, I have it. I am depressed and have anxiety, it went under the radar. Right now, my life is against me. I scheduled a vacation day yesterday since I needed to use some before the end of the year and I needed a half day on Tuesday to prep for a annual meeting that night. I'm like perfect. Extend it a day. Yeah. My 86 year old mom went into the hospital on Sunday and needed surgery yesterday. I was so stressed Tuesday, my ADHD kicked in, and I was only 1/4 prepared for the meeting. Also, I was planning on doing a majority of it on Sunday. However, I'm the daughter and my 3 brothers are jerks, so I'm my mom's only caregiver.

Especially if I am alone, and it is the spring and summer months here in Denmark. I can sit there and read, play mobile phone games, and just chill after the hyperfocus of driving the car and doing errands that always just mess with my sensory sensitivity. I always forget my headphones when shopping and doing errands. Inside the house, there is more space around, and I think that is why I need to decompress in the car. Also, do you not just love ADHD, we have a storage room in the house that we just throw things in, and now I need to clean out the office room and the storage room. Life is fun as an AuDHDer!😊

Compulsive to do list writer here. I have stuff that I do everyday & take great delight in crossing it off, including adding things I’ve done & crossing those off too😂 I also have a priorities list that involves the big tasks you mentioned that are daunting-the ones I prefer to avoid. “Where do you start?”. (Especially where do you start if you’re afraid of it not being done perfectly?🤣). The rule is that a task on the priorities list gets added to the daily list, even if as you said, it’s part of a larger priority. Like the 1 shelf thing. Just make a start is what I often say to myself! Totally get you. I don’t have a diagnosis but I’m like a bee, constantly on the go but in the end, probably not being as productive as a bee if left to my own devices without directing myself with lists🤣. I have a big problem with post it notes as a result. I probably need shares in the company at this point🤣🤣🤣

I was never diagnosed with ADHD but am pretty sure that it's something I've always struggled with. Couple that with depression stemmed from PTSD (over my autistic son's many elopements and self injurious behaviors) where even tasks that I enjoy (once I get around to doing them) require that I "build up steam" which feels like I'm pushing a boulder up a hill. Even when I set out to do something, the OCD kicks in and I'll strive for perfection. Example: I'm a guitar player and took up acoustic guitar luthiery as a hobby after my son threw one of my guitars down the stairs. Over the course of 15 years I've only built two guitars, with a third and fourth in slow progress. It should take three months to build one guitar, tops. Guitar No. 1 took me 4 years to complete, No. 2 to twelve. No. 3 has taken 4 years (and is 95% done) but I should've finished it last year and I have a 4th that I began 3 months ago.

I found this really interesting. I find it so difficult to stay on task and to organize myself. I have a million plans to do so but when it comes time to get it done, I stress out thinking of other things that I should be doing instead. End result, I get overwhelmed and put off everything until another day. Nothing accomplished. I have years of graphic files that I have to sort through whenever I have a new work order and every single time, I tell myself I need to organize them but instead I spend an extra hour finding everything I need before I begin working. Organization would save me so much time in the long run but I continue to put it off. It is so frustrating. However, I have never ever considered that ADD may be part of the problem. Maybe not but who knows. Have you been diagnosed? Or with research, you have come to that conclusion? We probably know ourselves best, don't we? 🤷♀ Amd BTW...yes, N scale. My dad used to own a model railroad store which I worked in for a few years. Fun hobby.

Time blocking your to-do lists. I don't just write a to-do list. I give it an exact time. For example "fold laundry from 1-1:35" No matter what I'm starting at 1 and ending at 1:35. It eliminates distractions because my time is limited and I know I will start the task because I've blocked off that time. You will be amazed how much you can do when you block off time.

An now is the perfect weather to get outside an off ur electronics.... Save them for night time . 😂❤
@fatheringautism17 күн бұрын
I thought I explained it well in the video but apparently not. This isn't simply procrastination. Nobody is complaining about not wanting to do something, it's actually the opposite, I WANT to do ALL the things and there are no excuses being made. It's a very common trait of ADHD to fill your time with a million other things rather than the large jobs. Not because the large jobs are hard, because they take too long to complete. It isn't about avoiding work, I work constantly. It's because the satisfaction of completing a large job is equal to completing a small job. The dopamine level is the same, the feeling of completion is the same, and the drive to do those smaller tasks is very strong. In the ADHD world, there is no later, there is only now. When I see something that needs to be done I don't plan to do it later, I do it now or it doesn't get done. My "electronics" are part of my job. I'd rather spend time with my family than parked in front of my computer in the evening.
