Thank you Father Meeks and especially thank God for sending you to us. You are a good holy and Godly man. I have learned so much from you. Every time I get discouraged because of all the heretics who pose as clergy I remember you and you encourage me to remain in the Holy Catholic Church. May God bless you, your ministry and your family.

@@tony1685 Wow, that's would be hilarious, if it wasn't so ridiculous. Clearly, you are the one utterly lacking in an understanding in and of scripture and Im guessing intentionally so, in order to do harm. But guess what tony, it wont work. Now you run along and have a good day and pray, pray that God forgives you for your disingenuous attacks on Father Meeks... just because Jesus died for your sins doesn't mean you can just go right on committing them.

hi Tony, No need to reconcile anything...but you certainly do. That you think you understand scripture more than everyone else is troubling indeed and that you attempt to put Father Meeks in a negative light so you can try to make some anti Christian point to divide Christians. Reconcile those and get back to me. have a happy day.
@dandlac

@@tony1685 so that's very good Tony, keep studying, and you will hopefully find your way. But in the meantime, try your very best, with holiness, to try not to denigrate other Christians who have likely been around a lot longer than you have (based on your naive positions) and seen much more, gained far more wisdom and experience than you. Just because you think you are right, doesn't make you right Tony. Father Meeks is a Godly man and a wonderful teacher of God's guidance and Jesus' words, you are not going to change my mind, so you can stop. Your divisive behavior will not work. If you want to do something worthwhile Tony, use your energy trying to convert non-Christians, specifically non-believers and those who would kill human life in the womb... time much better spent, dont you think?

The older I get and the closer I get to the Lord, I come to understand deeply this gospel message. Why? Because the closer I get to the Lord I truly come to understand and see who in my family and circle of friends understands this message. Those who do not understand have fallen away from my life. Thank the Lord it hasn't been my family but they do have a hard time understanding and accepting that the Lord and His Blessed Mother will always come first before them and above all, before myself.

I am now seventy-one with 14 grandchildren with catholic baptisms. Over the last couple of years I have learned to make sacrifices for my invalid wife of 50 years and devote as much time as possible to pray my grands , my siblings, parents those in authority in or out of the church come to know Jesus. If Father meeks saw me at walmart or church he would know I am the weird obnoxious person who wears clothing displaying my attachment to Jesus 0n front and back (Jesus I Trust in you two inches tall. No it is not about the divine mercy. It is just a statement of fact. Yes it is weird and obnoxious to many who look and then look away in public or at the Catholic church. I have learned to deal with the fact that most people in the catholic church, walmart or any public place do not want to be reminded by me of Jesus is alone trustworthy without question. On my walmart trips I usually meet one to three people that love to talk about Jesus as much as I do. I fast and pray every day I offer up for reparation for total strangers. Rosary is said in the am and pm with Ave maria playing in back ground while i pedal my exercise bike.

"When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die." Dietrich Bonhoeffer 'The Cost Of Discipleship' This passage from The Cost Of Discipleship is, I believe, also an example of the use of hyperbole that Father Meeks speaks about in his explanation of the word "hate" in the passage from Luke. "Die" is used by Bonhoeffer in a similar way, as hyperbole.

I went to catechism in the mid 1960s and when we graduated they had a big ceremony. The Altar Boys led the procession down the aisle carrying a huge incense burner suspended from a pole. The priest was dressed in his finest attire carrying the staff with the dead Jesus on top of it it was quite a spectacle to behold. I think I was maybe 8 or 9 years old I don't really remember now. Anyway the priest gave his speech and then he showered us with holy water. After that we lined up and walked up to him one by one where he gave us the Bible a Saint Christopher's medal a rosary some fancy book markers and I don't know what he told the other boys but he shook my hand and he said I hope you make it. After that my mom and dad ended up getting divorced and we didn't go to the Catholic church anymore. I started reading the Bible he gave me but it was too scary God seemed really angry and I knew all the bad things were going to be happening to me so I had to put it down. Later on in life I was compelled to start reading it again but I still came to the same conclusion and I put it down again. Then one day in 1995 early April it was I was driving home from work and I said a short little simple prayer it concerns what can I do for you and if you're real show me a sign. 5 minutes later I saw my sign and it was unmistakable I didn't really know how to relate to it exactly at the time but as I started reading the Bible again things became clear. I spent the next 12 years studying and learning day and night to understand the sign I saw and understand how that was even possible. I would sum it all up by the statement you have to become the child. Be a disciple pick up your cross and follow me. That's just saying that Jesus came to set the example to show us how to overcome the death that came in the beginning. You can make it if you try but if you think you already know everything you're not going anywhere. Everything you need to know is already in the Bible and if the story you're reading doesn't bring you full circle you're not reading it right.

Just out of curiosity I compared Luke 14:26 in every English translation of the Bible that I own, and the word "hate" was used in each and every one. KJV, NKJV, RSV, NRSV, NIV, NLT, ESV, and CSB. I did notice one distinction in the NLT (2013 and 2015 revisions), which spoke of hate "by comparison". The NLT Study Bible did make it clear, however, that "by comparison" did not appear in the original Greek, but that the translation team added the phrase because they felt it to be consistent with Jesus' intent.

If I've accidentally sounded prideful, then I'm sorry. However when from the Age of Reason in primary school you're forced to separate yourself from your parents because of their Demonic deal with the world, all you have to do is love Jesus and Mary more than your parents (as a child trying your best to love God (Beauty, Goodness and Truth), you don't want to lower yourself to their level), it's just the truth, there's no way around it.

The Holy Spirit made me reject the Counterfeit Catholicism of my parents, where liturgical abuse was rife, where less than edifying songs were played during Mass, where sinister efforts were made to change the teachings of the Church, where at my Catholic Primary School an indigenous Demon god was enthroned, where banality was the norm. So because of this I drifted into agnosticism, and God forbid I neglected loving Jesus and Mary because of this (Mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa) for a bit, however I was still valuing Beauty, Goodness and Truth above all things. I was always looking for God I just didn't know it. God is that to which nothing greater can be thought. Then due to the Grace of God I went to an Anglican school and was orientated towards looking into the True Orthodox Catholic Faith. God saved me, where my parents couldn't. Our Hearts are restless until they rest in God. Beware the Antichurch.

P.S. It's worth noting that during primary school I was very ignorant of Mary (I did not have the knowledge nor the connection with Mary that I have now) and had heard only vague references about her that were attached to Fatima and Lourdes, however she was always there, she was always alongside Jesus at Catholic Primary school. The praying of the Hail Mary (as well as the Our Father) each day (well almost) in Catholic Primary school was some of the best education I ever got from that place.

As a Catholic, I find Fr.'s sermon's uplifting. I do have a conflict in my own mind however. As he says he is married with children, I am assuming he was married before becoming a priest. This is my conflict, would the Catholic Church flourish with better priests if the pope would allow marriage? On one hand I can understand that it takes much more devotion and faith to be celibate, and if you are married, you may not be able to devote as much to your parish. On the other hand, wow, I really like his sermons, and as short on priests as the church is, would this be the answer to the renewal of the church? But what if the priests has marital problems, a person we go to with our troubles and he is busy with his own? We have a priest that is of mideastern decent, nothing against him, but I leave mass not understanding a word he said. I can understand both sides, just struggling with which is right? I do think, just my opinion, that a married priests is less likely to be involved in sexual scandals. Or maybe the most of us are just not willing to sacrifice enough. I hope someday I can find that strength and make that sacrifice and put forth the effort to let it all in the hands of God. Like father says though, there are just so many things that preoccupy us. I am not making excuses, clearly that is up to me to make those sacrifices.

It seems to me that "hate" in the passage is saying that when Jesus speaks to you through the Spirit what He is saying has priority over all other affairs, concerns, interest, amusements, etc. that you have. You probably will not understand why the instruction He is giving is necessary but that is why He is God and you are not. Follow, trust, and fear not. Unfortunately for me the truth that "you do not know what you do not know" came late in life. In modern truth we have learned that the universe through the lens of the Hubble telescope is different than the universe being seen through the Webb telescope and what we believed to be true last year was lacking what we did not know at the time. What we believe every moment of our life is formulated by incomplete knowledge and perspective. The Book of Ecclesiastes begins with the Preacher's observation of the world which was "all is vanity" which is the knowledge, intelligence and wisdom of man which profit to him was questionable to the Preacher. When you gaze up into the night sky and behold its wonder what you see does not exist in your time. It is a tapestry of things and events which happened at different times measured in light years. Your view of how your reality and belief fits into the world around you cannot be factored as an absolute which is why you need the Spirit to guide you.

How does a Catholic priest have a wife, 4 kids etc?

Father was a Protestant pastor and converted. Catholic Church sometimes allows married men with a pastoral background to become Catholic priests.

How does one eat an elephant? ONE BITE AT A TIME. Get up 20 minutes earlier each day and pray The Holy Rosary. Read this day's scripture (you can find it online if you don't have a Catholic Missal). Remember that The Holy Spirit is HERE, on Earth, and knows every hair on our heads and every situation in which we find ourselves. Remember Him when you are in a challenging situation, and ask what you should do. The answer is there. And don't LIMIT God! We may live to be one hundred, that's true. But we may lose our lives in the next five minutes. Which thought would you rather have on your mind, in your heart: that dumb SOB who called you a liar? Or a sharp retort for your wife who asked why you're so late? Stop, think and ask which is most important, your PRIDE or your silence in love. It's not hard, but we're human, and must practice it to get it right. Go to Mass often. Daily Mass or once more per week. It'll only take an hour of your time. Go with the reverent intention of actually giving God your revernece and praise, and not with the thought, "What do I get out of it?" Do this, and after awhile, the elephant isn't so big any more. Just BEGIN.

What's he's saying is that he still loves the world. We must hate all in the world and put Jesus first. Anything less is not acceptable.

All of scripture is troubling. The Catholic church knows the demands of the priesthood. Single priests can more easily commit their entire lives to ministry. Jesus was an unmarried priest. Every moment of ones life should be the cross. Jesus was a man of sorrows for a reason: He found so few who lived their lives as God requires. If we truly love someone living in a state of mortal sin we need to live as the Fatima seers did praying and offer up their sufferings for souls The 3 Fatima seers did this. They better examples than mother Theresa: As her biographer, I once asked her whether she tried to convert people. “She replied, ‘Yes, I do convert. I convert you to be a better Hindu, a better Christian, a better Catholic, a better Sikh, a better Muslim. When you have found God, it’s up to you to do with him what you want.” God wants everyone to be Catholic. Members of non Catholic religion have different beliefs than we do and therefore are heretics. The four marks of the Church: One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic. One means one set of beliefs for all followers. How often have people, myself included, told a non Catholic that they cannot be saved unless they are Catholic? How often do Catholics pray and suffer for these lost sheep. Jesus died for all, only Faithful Catholics can be saved. This is another unfortunate thing that has happened to our Church: people are under the impression that nice non Catholics can be saved. Until Vatican II, the Catholic Church always taught that being Catholic required for salvation and this is the same thing Jesus required when He walked on earth. There is only one shepherd and only one flock, pray and suffer for the daily conversion of yourself and those who have not yet found the one True faith on earth, Catholicism.

In summary: Our heavenly father warns us in a shocking way to get our attention away from people pleasing instead of always doing our father in heaven's will. He did so by using exageration when using the word hate in a sentence that is now recorded in the bible passage - Luke 14: 26. In other words each of us in our life time are going to find ourselves up against the world. There is no other way that Christianity in general will help to make the world as we know it better unless each of us risks getting accused of being radical in positive ways for example in how much we are pro-life. None of us should be afraid to question authority in this whenever there is an approaching death and after a death happens too instead of people pleasing to get by.
