This is Westland Helicopters 1960's

Major rationalisation of the UK aircraft industry occurred during the 1960s. With the acquisition of Bristol Helicopters, Fairey Aviation and Saunders-Roe, Westland Helicopters transformed itself into Briton’s only helicopter maker with plants at Yeovil, Weston-super-Mare, Eastleigh and Hayes. Producing helicopters for all roles.

Augusta Westland still build Helicopters in Yeovil today.

My first of hundreds of helicopter ops was in this venerable old beast, on sennybridge training area. Last experience was I think on a Ukranian MI-8 another oldie, in Kosovo I seem to remember, or possibly the Canadian Griffin was my last/last but one.

Me too, but the wessex and scout were my baptisms of helicopter cabbies, and then Puma, Chinook, Gazelle, Canadian Griffin and finally a Mi8 Hip (KFor shuttle). The last one was interesting as one sat on the opaque fuel tanks as seats. Didnt help with the ride to have that stuff sloshing around lol. Im sure ive missed some models out. Good days long gone.

There are some people who despite the Unions, managed to produce a product that in its time was the best the world could expect, with the technology then available. And there were people who kept them flying, and in service., which is why we are still here today. Tovaritch.

If you look at the Westland helicopters and Sikorsky helicopters of the same era they are basically the same ones because of Westland Corporation buying license from the Bridgeport Connecticut area manufacturer Sikorsky helicopters.

You have to hand it to the Brits. Replacing the radial engine with first one and then two turboshaft engines transformed the Sikorsky H34 from a high maintenance and marginally powered craft into a much more useful helicopter.

@@stallagiardino7877 well if you look at the belivdre it was replaced by the chinook which was designed around the same time and is still flying 60 years later. Name and british aircraft built after ww2 that is as good as anything America built, not the Blackburn beverley which was replaced by the hercules built around the same time and still flying 60 years later. The wessex itself is a US design...

@@joelbilly1355 . Hi.. Yes, most of the Westland helicopters were licence built Sikorsky or Bell helicopters.. However, in reply.. I’d have to say the Canberra, Harrier, TSR2, Concorde and the Westland Lynx. The UK problem was always lack of money and an inept government that never wanted to plan long term.

Still waiting on my order from the Coast guard and a Navy order 500 helicopters a piece from the Korean war still waiting on those banana Chinook helicopters and my other helicopters from the Korean war time I guess it takes forever to go through the lot and see how many helicopters you have left still waiting on them I need it for log calling I need it for outhouse s*** or hauling I don't have any more helicopters I need my Korean helicopter order 500 I guess it takes time to get 500 helicopters together I'll guess you I'm up the s***'s creek huh
