I am from the southwest of England and live half an hour away from the Westlands Helicopter plant, and in July 2022 I did my year 10 work experience there and got to see the new helicopters and the old ones so it was cool to see that it is recognised and that all of the helicopters made there are in the game.

@@jimbobjoe4696 I did mechanical design but they move you round in 3 & 6 month placements. I was in transmissions ME, Lynx structures (I asked for 6 months here because there was a lot of Wildcat work going on) SMTE (Structural Mechanical Test Engineering), Seaking technical publications & Build tech pubs. I only stayed on for a year after my apprenticeship because I had another opportunity but having it on my CV has been as good as a degree for me. If you do a technical apprenticeship you’ll get a HND and if your really good they will put you through a degree in your 5th year. You can do a Craft apprenticeship too where you’d learn how to build the things and make some of the parts. It’s a well paid, easy going job that you’ll be proud to tell people you work there. Your mum & dad would be proud of you too.

My Dad was an design engineer at Westland in the mid 80's (before I was born) and for a long time the Seaking Helicopter had the gearbox that he designed in it. Every time we see one he tries to work out what model it is to work out if it's "one of his" or not.

I’m ex-AAC, my first posting was in Germany 1980, we had Lynx and Gazelle, then I was posted to the UK, where Scouts were still in service. Both poles apart. Have to say, Lynx had some issues back then, oil and hydraulic leaks, with plenty of them returning on one engine. I was part of the abseil display team. Quite the adrenaline rush, stood on the skid, weighted rope bag in one hand, the other gripping the cabin frame. Pilot speeding in to the display area at 50 feet, then nose up to 200 feet into a hover, drop the bags, then 3 race to the ground, braking as late as they dared, then me, appearing to fall from the skid, no hands, horizontal crucifix and pray my brakeman was going to bring me down without trying to make my heels smack the back of my head! Unfortunately, on the last display, something went wrong and I piled into the ground. Which hurt… a lot! I preferred the Scout, weird huh?

I mean heli’s are interesting but they are just impossible to grind / use effectively just because so many different factors come into play. I mean sure there’s those moments when the enemy is brain dead and you can get maybe 2 to 4 kills before you get shot down but if your not something like a Z19E or a BlackShark then there’s not much you can do sadly.

The Scout and Wasp were great aircraft to work on. You could check most of the engine by looking at it. No need to remove panels or look through restricted openings.

@@SmikeMan It was added with the rest of the Israeli helicopter tree. I just can't remember the last time a new helicopter was added to an already existing helicopter tree, that was not premium. New planes, ground vehicles, and naval vehicles are added all the time, but never a new researchable helicopter, unless it's a brand new tree like China's or Israel's. Those are the most recent.

Maybe someone can explain for me.... Take Rank 3 British Tech tree at BR 5.3 but you place the BR 5.0 Skink into your lineup and now suddenly according to the tier rankings it only seems to que for Tier 4 matches which seems to have a much longer que time seemingly due to lack of people queing BR 5.3 for tier 4 which seems to be mostly mostly BR 6.0-7.0 with couple oddballs like the Skink, Comet (Finnish) couple of US tanks and the oddball AMX-13 DCA 40 (France at 4.7). What is the Tech Tree rank supposed to represent...... Is it a date vehicle was made or some other variable?

@@thisisaduck In Australia the vast majority of helicopters were Bell types. 47, 206, and UH-1s. The army had a few Scouts for a while, the navy had Sycamores, Wasps, Wessex and Seaking. But they're all retired now.

No I don't enjoy flying them as their repair cost is infinite unless the repair costs have been changed I remember it being 13K sl to spawn 1 scout AH1 heli, 13k for 4 missiles.

@@kittylove0921 creates imbalance where you have teams filled with tier 1s with maybe like 3 or 4 players on said team in capable vehicles. It's like the premium problem where new players buy top tier vehicles and have no line-up to benefit the team, so they die once and return to hanger.

Just use wasdqe like you would for a plane. So qe for yaw, ws for pitch and ad for roll. I switch between mouse aim for using guns and simplified so I can hover and move around better.

Question, how effective are MANPADs mounted against helicopters? I am aware that the stinger missiles are not super reliable nor have a lot of range but helicopters don’t fly as high nor anywhere near as fast as fixed wing Jets at their BR range, meaning that they should be more reliable against them.

Most of these designs were build as Westland aircraft, ok the UK Apache was in the Agustawestland era but it’s called Leonardo now. During the Augusta/Leo era all the military stuff is built at the Somerset factory, the Italians handle mostly Civ stuff. Either way, everyone still calls it Westlands still round here.

Even irl it Doesn’t count mate. There have been several compound and coaxial designs (ka50 is one) that are faster but no other main rotor/tail rotor configuration comes close to G-Lynx. Beautiful machine.
