Today i SHOW you guys what a crown victoria police interceptor looks like with a BAD transmission.
i also cover what to look for on earlier panther models from 1998 to 2004
in the case of this 2006 crown vic, it has gone into limp mode with a wrench light will not go past 40mph

When my 2007 trans went out, it started slipping and then would grab and bark the tires. Finally, it just wouldn't move in 1st gear. To get it home, I reversed up a hill. I put it in first, and held the rpms at around 1500. When I shifted into 2nd while it was rolling, it took second gear and kept going. If you are looking to rebuild it, there is a guy in Murfreesboro that built mine for under $800. That was removal, rebuild, reinstall, and fluid.

That delay is normal in these transmissions. It’s not a symptom of failing transmission

The jmod was engineered by the very guy who helped design the 4r70. These transmissions shifted slower and softer due to comfort and durability concerns ie u joints, motor mounts etc. The slow shifts represents slow clutch fill times which created excess heat, wear and slippage. The line pressure is controlled by the pcm and influenced by a few sensors such as the maf and tps. The jmod would be making specific existing feed holes bigger for quicker shifts. And removing a accumulator spring for a firmer shift. Quick and fi means less slippage and heat, less fluid overheating. Also add a trans cooler and these transmissions will go for a very long time. Tccoa has good instructions on this. Use mercon v or mercon lv is only to be used 98-2011 2005-2011 mercon lv

I've seen them act up due to just having wrong fluid in them. Unlike a ND engine where you can run different types of oil for the most part. You must use the correct atf in these transmissions

As soon as my 2006 crown Victoria hit 100,000 miles, the transmission went out. I definitely experienced the limp mode and the supercharger affect. LOL, $1400 later I got a complete rebuild. Now she just purrs like a kitten all day.

He didnt want to do it at first. he said my transmission might start slipping on me down the road. ran great and super smohth after it was done. So i dont think thats what caused it.

I don't even think that's it. They really aren't that large or even that heavy in relation to full size pickups. I think the thing that kills them is people not servicing them at the correct intervals for one, but the particularly the fact that they are so slow unless you are hammering the throttle. Anyone who has one of these cars and prefers to drive fast is staying in that throttle to make it go faster while it was really designed for leisurely highway driving and fuel economy. It's not the ideal mix. Having said that, I really appreciate my Marty Tuned SCT X4 in this regard. It really wakes up the car and makes it stay in a lower gear so that you don't need to be in the throttle so much. Hurts my fuel economy though. I am averaging 17mpg now. I was averaging closer to 20mpg before hand

Love the video bro! Your channel has helped me since I bought my 09 2 years ago. Ever since I bought the car, it has slipped a little in between 3rd and 4th, stalled occasionally at red lights, stalled occasionally if i didn't let it warm up before putting it in gear, even going over bumps in 4th would make it fall out of gear... I thought, hey, old, heavy car, that's how it is and lived with it. Had a tech at Ford tell me that the check balls in the valve body go out over time, so I threw in a valve body. Well, after that, slipped and clunked off the line, very hard shift and clunk going into second, from 3 to 4 the rpms would redline during shift, and in 4th the rpms would surge about 500 or so with no change in speed. I bought a new torque converter HOPING that was the problem... still messed up. I bought a remanned trans that I will be installing tomorrow, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Yesterday, it slipped so bad off the line that I got a wrench light and a code for "Gear 1 incorrect ratio" and went into limp mode. Luckily I keep a scan tool in the car with me, cleared the code, and got it home

@@ResidentAlien1 it was the transmission. I put the remanufactured one in myself, took about a day in the driveway (first time doing one). I got it for $1900 something after tax, and shipped to my job to save the freight shipping charge. It came with a 3 year cross country warranty also

I've had good luck with Ford transmissions. My 94 Grand Marquis took burnouts for days and just shifted slow (Not at higher RPM, just slow.), My 04 Expedition shifted like new tell the day I traded her in at 335K and my 00 F-150 just occasionally shifts harshly (Been doing it since 160K) and has 227K on the clock. GM has been the brand to really burn me on transmissions.

@@OhPhuckYou 10 years ago had a 2003 Silverado and a 2002 F150 both suffering from the same issues (transmission issues but the rear end exploded on the Ford) at the same time but my Ram just kept on ticking I still on that truck to this day But that Chevy had no problem leaving smoke and rubber all over the road with a 5.3 I like to think of it as my fault the transmission went out the 4L60E Transmissions are known to be trash but then F150 was weak and lethargic it would try his best to do a burnout with that weak-ass 5.4 that it had and it would get to it eventually but it just didn't feel the same and they were both deathtraps I might add look at the crash test videos on both models the damn shame that they were sold to the public like that anyways I'm not going to go on a rant I'm high and drunk at the same time and I don't know why I'm typing this down I'm going to get off now

Sounds strange but believable..transmissions prefer to shift at a certain rpm and if the ignition system couldn’t keep up then it might cause a hesitation to shift

My 06 vic just threw a p1783 code. I hope i caught in time just replace the previous trans thinking it was about because of the over heating issue, now the brand new trans going through the same issue. Going to get a trans cooler thrown on and hope for the best.

I had the same problem on my 08 i bypassed the stock transmission cooler which is part of the ac condenser for our year and i bought a Hayden 404 transmission cooler and dropped my temps from 230 to 160 max now with the Hayden transmission cooler. Just make sure you completely bypass the stock cooler and run the 2 lines to the new cooler easy fix!

@@erichazlehurst5557 The B&M "stacked plate" design of trans cooler recommends that the fluid lines FROM the stock trans cooler in the radiator are routed TO the INLET side of the new Trans Cooler . In other words, run BOTH coolers, FIRST to the stock cooler, THEN to the new cooler -- tranny will reach operating temperature quicker, and overall trans tempperature is more stablized. I have run both types -- Hayden AND B&M -- I prefer the B&M Trans Cooler's sturdy construction and "stacked plate" design -- same type as used by FORD for their "trailer-tow" package vehicles. The Hayden Cooler can be mounted in almost any position -- while the B&M cooler MUST be mounted with the fittings pointing straight UP to insure maximum cooling.

Can a THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR cause these same symptoms? WRENCH Light comes when I try to go into gear for too long - as in I'm trying to get it going by hitting gas (RPMs higher and higher) then it threw a wrench - wrench goes away after I turn the car off and then back on... also I can't even get into 1st gear... you're lucky to be in LIMP mode - I can't get ANY movement ... 👋 what I like to know is how to run the transmission oil all the time to run cooler, bypass or delete the thermostat on the transmission on a 08 crown Vic. The reason I ask is because I have a 2015 Yukon that I have deleted the thermostat to keep the transmission oil running the hole time and now it runs 40 degrees cooler is there a way to do this delete or bypass on a 08 crown Vic transmission?? I don't think your Crown Vic OR a P71 can turn twenty-four thousand RPMs. Gotta be a mistake somewheres. ;>) The famous 95 MERC turns 1980 RPMs at 80 MPH with a 2.73 rear-end ratio.

Dude, opportunity missed. This would have been the perfect video to pivot into the advantages of 5 speed swapping your panther car and explain all of the many advantages of it. Not the least of which is the better gearing in the tr3650 which allows faster acceleration, plus the fact that you lose less horsepower and torque through manual trannies which translates into more power and torque at the tires. It's a win win. Nonetheless, good info in this video.

My 2011 p71 has been misdiagnosed 3 times and my toronto mechanics dont know whats wrong...i told them dont be too hard on yourself they call the Crown Vic the Buggatti of the west cuz they are so complex and rare just like an exotic 😐 anyhow they cant fix it. My abs light is on My parking brake light is on My engine light is on My headlights dont work but on some settings one works My passanger airbag is always off My overhead light will stay on permanently if i dont remove the bulb They have replaced the battery, the alternator, the lighting control module, the gauge cluster STILL NO DIFFERENCE What is wrong with it? How come no one in the city of Toronto KNOW HOW TO FIX A VIC!!!!

it sounds like some wires were cut when they retired the car. the ABS light can be from a blown fuse or relay or it can also be your actual ABS system that stopped working...its most likely a fuse/relay OR theres a wire that runs inside the driver side fender that might have been cut. it will also trigger the ABS and parking brake light. as far as your check engine light goes just hooking it up to a regular scanner should tell you what the problem is. its probably related to your EGR valve. all the rest of the things you listed sounds like a lead wire/cable was cut somewhere in the car

the paint in this particular vic is from Chevy but a similar ford paint would be "Toreador Red" and "Matador Red"

I have a 1999 crown Vic sap an it's last forever ! An it's ecm is awesome feels like a sports car trust me iv tried it many times it only weighs 3800 pounds odd for a 99 ..why does it waigh so light compar to other crown vics ? an this one has lots lots of power .

So I guess you must have a problem with the direct clutch cause that is for 3rd gear. Or the intermediate stub shaft broke or stripped out the splines on the direct hub. Last 2 are very common with this trans.

Like the video, I have a 2006 p-71 and have changed practily everything on the engine with no impact, my problem is that at red lights and when decellerating the car stalls, but will start right back again, i heard that it could be my tourque convertor, car has 124k miles just a baby got it 44k 10 years ago, can honestly say never changed trans fluid since i had it ... any help anyone ?

My car, dubbed Queen Victoria, is an ass. She has numerous problems and likes to sound like shit, but multiple mechanics have said she's just grumpy from sitting in a yard (I rescued her) for over a year or more. Lots of driving and fluid changes have gotten her to a better operating place, but there's several other things, probably small, needing to be fixed. *Sigh*

@@papo862 yea I did it my self if you know how to do it you can do it yourself to save money but you can get a good used one but remember it might happen to that one but if you replace it you know it's will last you for some years if you get routine maintenance .

My 2007 grand marquis only drives in overdrive without the transmission slipping from 3rd to 4th gear. Driving on the highway, I'm usually at 3000 rpm doing 70mph with overdrive engaged. If I shut it off the rpms will almost redline before banging into the next gear. Could it be the solenoids?
