Most of those popular Ghanaian movies that you're talking about are Nollywood movies but they made them in Ghana and used many Ghanaian actors and actresses and added few Nollywood actors and actresses in those movies. The Nollywood producers did that to EXPAND the Nollywood Movie Industry. The real Ghanaian movies are the local ones called Kumawood. Ghallywood collapsed after Nollywood producers stop producing and investing in the Ghana Ghallywood movies because of high Tax from the Ghana government. 80% of those popular Ghallywood movies from 2006 are Nollywood movies.

One point you made is, unlike the ghanaian movie industry, older Nigerian actors and actresses are taking the back seats by playing more elderly roles, like fathers, mothers, aunties and uncles, thereby creating space for the younger ones to go in.

My sister, Oge Okoye is a Nigerian, she played the major role in that movie and I had seen that movie as well. Nigeria has one umbrella called nollywood even though all African are under this umbrella but we do have others industries like THE YORUBA MOVIE STRICTLY FOR YORUBA SPEAKING PEOPLE to be able to connect to their people, we have IGBO MOVIE , HAUSA MOVIE , then we have the IBIBIO MOVIE etc just for the same singular reason; to connect with their people and show cases their culture too. But all these doesn’t do any harm to Nollywood which is the biggest picture and overall umbrella. Pls Lyonga, you try but know this simple truth so Nigeria won’t come at you. You are already part of us. God bless Nigeria and Africa ❤ Greet ice prince for me o

Madam do your research Ghana movie industry was controlled, produced and financed by Nigerians back then until they fell out with Nigerians. Nigerians pulled out that’s why they don’t have a vibrant industry. The cinemas in Ghana are owned by Nigerians. The Ghana hype has confused so many people to think Ghana is better than Cameroon or other African countries

There was a certain Ghanaian actress that was mucking nollywood that Nigeria producers don’t pay attention on the actors following the script. they even accused Nigeria producers that they leave there hotels in Ghana with out paying, the Ghanaian actors began to feel that they are better than Nigeria actors, there government hight tax Nigeria producers. Base on that Nigeria withdraw from them, is the results you see today.

You have not pointed out why Ghana movie industry failed which was their GREED. The actors thought that they have arrived so, they decided to connive with the government to place a high fees of 10 thousand dollars fees on Nigerian producers in Ghana .and that led to the Exodus of the producers, hence, their fall.

It's not a must you have Ghallywood. You can be a Ghanaian and shot Nollywood films. Just like Canadians are doing movies and it's still categorised as Hollywood. Having a wood is not a must. Note: this is coming from a business concern perspective, not any ridiculous nationalistic mindset.

Ghanaians we had 2 different movie industries, not because we're not united, it's because of the Languages we speak, some actors we not able to speak English fluently whiles others did, that's why we had 2 different industry, one at Accra (the capital City) and the other at Kumasi (the economic City)

Ghana is small and empty. I don't see anything successfull about Ghana or whatever they're doing. If you can name ONE success Ghanaians or Ghana has enjoyed since 1994. There's NONE. No Sporting victories,no economic growth,no successes in music, movies, Skits etc. Ghanaians have NOTHING to be upbeat or proud about. The social media illiteratracy by major Ghanaian industry players is a major drawback for Ghana. It's gonna take at least 50 years for Ghana to get to where Nigeria is today.Their music industry is as good as dead right now. The reason for the death of Ghanaian movie industry is the targetted tax on Nigerian film Directors, Producers,Actors, technicians if they want to shoot a movie in Ghana. The Ghana Film Association imposed a $10,000 tax on specifically Nigerian film makers. Nigerians called their bluff and Ghana is paying the price for the irresposibility of a few Ghanaians who were blinded by a false sense of their own importance. They felt the Nigerians were making a lot of money from Ghana without checking out the facts that the market was really in Nigeria. Paying $10,000 wasn't gonna be a problem for the Nigerians but the attempt at extortion was too much for the Nigerians to stomach,so they walked away knowing was bound to happen would not be good for Ghana but the shortsighted Ghanaians were dumb and greedy. Within 2 years the Ghanaian movie industry was dead and buried. The Nigerians couldn't tolerate that kind of envy-induced tagetting and so they walk away, leaving Ghana with a movie industry that's effectively in the toilet today.
