The choice to forgo any narration or interviews really helps convey the sense of loneliness this highly social animals must feel after a lifetime habituated to humans, isolated from their own.

They are neither Chimpasses nor humans. It is disgusting to take a living being and strip it of its own characteristics, teach/force human characteristics and then leave them in an empty space between humans and animals. One of the ugliest things people can do and then judge in solitude for the rest. After watching these disgusting truth in this film along with the lies And see how much we changed them and made them humanly so they are no longer chimps but Ape-people and should have rights as such.

We’re all animals but like it or not we are the most intelligent mammals and it’s really not even close. You act like the fact that humans have mistreated them completely erases all of the absolute savagery they do to their own. Stop romanticizing these creatures like they aren’t capable of every bit of the evil humans are. As far as intelligence though you can’t even seriously debate that with a straight face. These are creatures that not only purposely but take great joy in eating their own feces. They are quite fond of infanticide. Not above cannibalism by any means. When they attack they purposely try to not kill but severely maim victims by biting off fingers, toes, and especially the genitalia of males. So they don’t want to kill something they are angry at. Just leave it with a horribly debilitating injury that will drastically hinder its quality of life going forward. Lmao it’s terrifying to think of the evil things they would do if they actually were as intelligent as people.

They didn’t do anything to him. That’s Knuckles, he was born with cerebral palsy and only expected to live a few years. But they cared for him 22 years (passed away last year). Humans may do terrible things to chimps but so do other chimps. Chimps will pick on and make life hell for the weak and disabled. If knuckles lived with the troop he’d probably be dead long ago. The space testing clips had nothing to do with knuckles or roger that was buried where knuckles sat down. This video was a little misleading as knuckles was never really famous and made it look like humans did this to him. He was well loved and well taken care of. He didn’t stand a chance at a normal life with other chimps.

He isnt "just a chimp" I know you wrote it like that just in case someone had some smart ass comment to say but bugger off to them, he is way more than "just a chimp" Also to me I really don't get the impression that he has just let his past go, he looks to me like a chimp that has given up on life. There is no doubting baby chimps are unbelievably adorable and I can totally see the allure in having one but those who try and have one as a pet never stop and wonder is this what is best for the chimp??? And the answer is 100% no they don't ask themselves that because they know it's not the right thing to do but just don't care. I just wish it would stop.

The problem with this video is that there is no info and they mislead. That last chimp isn’t roger. Or the roger buried where knuckles sat. Those clips are from the 60s. That was knuckles who was born with cerebral palsy and only expected to live a few years. He was well taken care of and couldn’t live a normal life with other chimps because they would end up killing him. He had nothing to do with the space program testing or any testing and he was never famous. Im all for videos that expose how humans mistreat animals but this leaves a bad taste by using Knuckles as some kind of broken product from human testing when he was just born disabled and didn’t stand a chance but humans gave him the best life they could for 22 years. Knuckles passed away last year 2021. RIP.

I'm amazed with this documentary. It almost allows you to enter the chimp's mind. And closeups of these beautiful creatures (without any stupid music) are awesome. One thing tho, the paralyzed chimp is too young to be the one used in the beginnings of space program. He look young. But cool idea to put it together. Just to underline how chimps experiments are horrible. And the experiment at the end (not the sharing one) but with drooping the candy bar - sooo amazing. Didn't see that anywhere (at YT). I like to learn more about the details, the relation between chimps etc. But sharing and empathy are not considered to be known to animals, sooo... who chimps really are? Who are we for real?

The paralyzed chimp looks like Knuckles from Center For Great Apes, who has cerebral palsy. If it is Knuckles, he wasn't in the space program and you're right that they stitched that together. This amazing video does exactly that!! Thank you for saying it so succinctly! The video did seem to allow us to ENTER THE CHIMPS MIND! I’ve never seen a more quiet chimp go through such emotion and keep it all in. Chimps are the most vocal of all the primates poor Rodger had no troop to call out to. He had no way to run around and display or scream to. But maybe he did scream out. Who would have comforted him? But doctors could sedate and shut the door until the next day. Great video! Can’t help but think about it.

I'm sorry but this film sickens me. All the abuse these chimps suffered through out their lives is so sad. Now that they are old and of no use anymore for their experiments they just get tossed a side to live out the rest of their lives damaged and suffering..suffering from being someone's pet, suffering from being someone's experiment , and suffering from being a test dummy. This just breaks my heart to no end. These chimps shouldn't have to live out the rest of their lives like this. This was all because of humans and the humans should have done the right thing and let them at least live out the rest of their lives in a retirement sanctuary so they can be chimps for the rest of their remaining lives. 😥😭💔🦧

and how else should they live? they would not be able to integrate with other chimps in a group, they certainly could not be released in the wild, and if they were not loved and pampered by these owners/family to them, they would be in a cage with no interaction just kept alive on the bare minimum, or worse euthanized! All the comments of horror at this are so naive and short sighted, these simple minded creatures truly love their owners in this video you can see it, and they have all their needs met, and some, including companionship and enrichment! They dont think much beyond that, humanizing them is to project your own complex outrage developed by your human experience and conditioning, and to say that they must be unfulfilled because you say they should, and you know what they would prefer! These animals can all communicate well enough, and they showed their approval in spades throughout each story... The director of this chose to spin the video by appealing to emotions of humans with the select camera angles and scenes! Consider a different way to look at this, and that maybe you cant say what they want, no matter how much you are emotionally triggered to..

Beautifully done video, without a word spoken!! Rodgers’s story is almost too hard to watch, but going from past to present gives every odd behavior, and facial gesture meaning . Grinding his teeth, zoning out, rocking and, toward the end, his whole facial expression seemed pained, as if he was holding back tears he never cried in the past. When he looks up to the tops of the trees I wonder if he is trying to imagine how different life could have been. But instead, a beautiful, bright eyed trusting Chimp gets used and abused until mind and body break. We need to begin to educate our hearts and spirit before our minds justify our own extinction for short term gain or advantage.

This is beautiful but so very sad. Such is life. We all get old our friends get old and leave us only with memories. Life is over it seems only seconds ago but it was 70 years. Cherish every moment, hug friends and family as much as you can because soon we'll all be gone and may not ever see each other again. Nobody knows what comes next; this could be it.

Cheeta, sitting by himself eating. Why not at least sit eating with him? Then it's obvious that he's aware that he's on the sideline, a wallflower, while everyone else is interacting. It's his birthday party, but he's alone. I thought so, his mother was murdered so he could be kidnapped. Disgusting how that guy orders him around and has no remorse for what he did to Cheeta. He looks so lost & lonely, trying to fill the emptiness. Looks like he's remembering much sadness while watching the movies of himself. 😢

Wow! Its amazing how intelligent a chimpanzee really is cheatta watching himself on TV shows he was conscious and cognitive of what's going on and seems in my humble recognised it was him I do wonder if he remembered those days of acting. Then seeing kanzi communicate and his responses was truly unbelievable and shows their even more intelligent than we could ever imagine so that being said we really need to consider the emotional aspects of them and how they feel!!

There's no need to make a captive chimp obese to satisfy some strange curiosity, i'm an exotcit animal trainer and they will work just as well for praise, there's no need to treat them like that stuck in the fridge, what will be gained out of it.. I trained elephant and still train macaw parrot to free fly and I don't agree with anything that is damaging to the animal, as a child hood fan of Cheeta We must keep these animals' lives as close to normal as possible if we are to take on these animals It is possible for them to fly in their natural state, which is why I believe pet macaw parrots should be taught to fly, preferably free or on a harness. The last ape conducting a very similar ritual to his wild cousins they have been seen doing a celebratory rain dance when the rains come after months of the dry season, to see him still holds something of there culture is heartwarming to behold.

Sir, a Macaw and a Great Ape are TWO DIFFERENT CREATURES. Chimpanzees are food motivated creatures who ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT WORK FOR "PRAISE" because...while I may NOT be an"Exotcit" animal trainer, I am a Biologist (with a secondary in Anthropology) who worked at Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Georgia, USA and I can PROMISE you that Kanzi was never used "to satisfy some strange curiosity". He was one of the family and Ms.Sue's main concern every day of every year she worked with him which I might add, was around 25 years. A Primate will protect their food sources with their very lives and I assure you that Kanzi's health was of the utmost importance and concern for EVERYONE involved. The ONLY problem may have lain in the fact that he did not like to exercise as Great Apes are prone to be overweight when kept in captivity! They did their absolute best to keep the weight off & down and did a fine job at it as Kanzi, for no lack of effort, WAS NOT THE SIZE OF A SMALL TRUCK! He was kept on a very nutritious, BALANCED (for a captive chimp) diet....I'M SORRY SIR BUT... A GREAT APE WILL NOT WORK FOR ACCOLADES, FOOD AND FOOD ALONE IS THEIR MAIN MOTIVATION and will rarely lift a single finger for an "atta boi". The ONLY ISSUE that I could attribute to his over all SMALL sense of longing and SLIGHT sadness would be that they never allowed Kanzi a true "mate" and not just kitty babies.....

The 3rd one, when that female chimp grabbed or bit his ear/face... you can see the stopped, and cut out a portion of the video... I wonder what all happened. I doubt the camera guy was the one to rush to help so I bet it was a pretty intense moment. Cutting that out really defeats the purpose of these mini documentaries... some commentary and little history on that would have be helpful.

Sorry but it's only gotten worse. KZbin makes a killing off of videos made by people who have murdered monkeys, taken their babies, and exploited them. They dress them in stupid clothing, make them wear diapers, starve them to keep them small because baby monkeys get more views, and constantly bathe them. Then there are the Video Operators, (VOs) who video monkeys all day at the temples where they congregate. They actually murder baby monkeys by feeding them out of turn. (A huge no no when hierarchy is the rule.) They then film the higher ranking monkeys tearing apart the babies who broke the rules. The VOs KNOW this, yet they continue to film it in order to get more traffic to their channels. One guy is so bad, he starves his monkeys to the point where THEY EAT THEIR OWN DIAPERS! He's been reported over and over, but KZbin allows the videos to stay up. I've posted a thousand times that people need to stop REPORTING these people, and instead, send emails to the ADVERTISERS because KZbin won't change unless you hit em where it hurts... their WALLETS!

Cheeta was around 50 years old at his birthday party. However, his trainer Tony Gentry ("the old dude in the wheelchair") lied that Cheeta was born in the 1930s when he was actually born 3 decades later, so the people at the party believed that Cheeta was around 82. Tony also lied that Cheeta was a movie star back in the '30s with roles in lots of Tarzan movies when in reality, he only played Cheeta in a TV movie and commercial later in his life when the public still believed Cheeta was older than he actually was.

Yep. Especially on social media where many channels in countries like Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia purchase these baby monkeys from poachers in markets. And, because they’re already maternally deprived, they’re often kept isolated in cages, only taken out to do hours of filming to give the illusion that they live in the house every day. Their diets are often poor and many starve because they can’t bottle feed. And then, once they’re no longer cute, they’re either abandoned or sold for parts in medicine. Many that are abandoned spend their lives essentially stalked by other content creators to create more videos. And those are the lucky ones.
