I own the code and it's a great controller....the only thing is the pads are stiff like you said but also my pitch bend wheel won't stay in place now. If you but this board just be careful with it.

Hi, Will it show the Aftertouch value (AFT***) , while the keys are pressed and struck? It should show AFT000 when the keys are pressed.

only thing i didnt particularly like was the pads, they feel kinda sticky, although they are responsive the feel is weird. Velocity on them is great though, i come from mpc pads and these not that great

Bought to have a portable for iPad synths. Using an Alesia fusion 88 at home, better action than my real Baldwin upright. I like the key bed on this.

It's purely a midi controller and has no in-built sounds. Probably should be able to go into some software (with virtual instruments) on a phone or tablet and out into a stereo or headphones from there. Most midi controllers have no in-built sounds of their own but I remember seeing one that also had in-built sounds too (so a stand-alone synth and midi controller). The Korg Triton Taktile apparently has 512 built-in sounds onboard and can also be used as a midi controller of virtual instruments on the computer. It seems to be from the 2014 era so probably out of production and rare. If you don't care about hooking up to a computer as a midi controller , just go for a dedicated synth (Novation Mininova is one I like ).

Hey man, thank you for the review and demo. I was hoping for an opinion on something. I am looking at one of these in 61 keys on Craigslist for $100 in good condition. Seems like a good deal. What do you think? I'm replacing an M-Audio Axiom 61 which has stopped working. I think it needs to be taken apart and cleaned from what I read online. Do you think this Code 61 will be more reliable than my old Axiom 61? Also are the 360 encoders clicky or smooth? Thank you!

Some time ago YT was full of reports of regular MIDI crashes/hung ups that plagued M Audio keyboards. Is this problem solved? Did it just disappear "from the radar" or did they change/fix something. These reports really discouraged me from buying a M Audio keyboard although they offer great build quality for an adequate price.

yeah nice but maybe it's good to tell people that use a Mac that M-audio only has 32bit software on their site and the new Catalina OSX need 64 bit and therefor all the software like the editor or the firmware update tool do not work!

I've had a few different M Audio controllers. They say they are class compliant. Two keyboards stopped working after a Windows 10 update. I ended up buying a pci usb card which was the only way to get it to work. M Audio are aware of the issues with their devices not always being class compliant with some usb ports. They really need to start writing their own drivers. Windows class compliant drivers are flaky at best.

Roland a49 has much superior synth keybed across their entire range. I’d personally go for the a500 for daw control, but Roland a500 rubber sample pads text rubs off and of course there are less sample pads and are smaller. But still playable. Roland series have already outperformed in the test of time. If you can afford Roland stuff the do buy cause they are very professional. Also the a500 has a very useful midi thru option.

I Own the 61 version of this. I had a lot of problems playing the piano with it....then one day I figured out what was wrong with this keyboard...the keys are shorter than a traditional piano. My thumbs constantly slipped off the end. The keys aren’t standard length.
