Hearing "hound" being said repeatedly made me unreasonably happy as an old fan of From Soft's old and often forgotten 360 exclusive game Chromehounds. @@0uttaS1TE it's for two reasons, one is that it's used for the offensive kick, the other is that it deploys a physical shield when you equip the heavy weapons that you have to be stationary to use. Tanks don't have to go stationary to use heavy weapons, so they don't have a deployable shield, but they still have a "kick" animation. Similarly, the light reverse joint bipeds, IIRC, do a little hop kick with both feet, so they don't have a single side shield that they hit with during the animation, but along with that, they don't have a defense bonus when using heavy weapons, because they don't have the corresponding shield. There are always a ton of interconnecting elements when you're building the mech, and figuring out and fine tuning the theory-crafting is like, 90% of the game to some people.

For the boost turn 180, the lighter your ac the faster and further they turn. in armored core 4 you could attach weights to adjust your weight for Front/Back//Sides made it so you could take advantage of your weighted weapons and tailor your movement. For example: if you have a heavy grenade launcher on your right rear slot you will have issues boosting left due to the weight. If you try to turn boost left you will get less rotation. where as if you boost towards that heavy weight you can boost faster and turn boost further than a 180 turn

@@DancerVeiled I see a lotta tech from ACVD, the kicks delivered by the light weight reverse joint was a thing everyone could do. A point of pride for me in the original AC was always being able to hold my own, with a non-rebel pilot against friends who always intentionally allowed that to happen to their own, for the gameplay advantages. I remember lugging a tv and playstation over to a friends house simply so we could have our own screens. If you want to talk about how far the series has come. This one aspect exemplifies it for me, even if it is really about hardware and not the game per se. The last AC game I played was 3. By then I was actually using my pointer and middle finger to manipulate the face buttons (ring and pinky for shoulder buttons, thumb switching between stick and face buttons, controller resting on my lap), for this one game. So it is not like I got bored of the series. I literally started using a novel, unorthodox and difficult grip just so I could play it better. I only stopped because the PS2 was the last home console I bought before I switched to PC gaming and I never cared a lot about emulation of anything newer than PSX stuff (until last year that is, a Steam Deck opens up some wonderful doors for emulation). So I simply haven't had the ability to play the newer ones. That VI is getting released for PC is one of the most exciting bits of video game news in 20 years, for me at least. Armored Core was such a good game I literally would literally walk to a friends house carrying a tv, playstation and whatnot just to play it when I was a teenager. Missing out on the later games has always annoyed me due to how much I loved the earlier ones. The sheer level of customization, which really was crazy at the time of the original, made for some great discussions with other people too. This excitement is severely tempered by From Software's reputation for PC ports though. (if you are unaware, it isn't the best) I don't expect anything to ever live up to an expectation based on memories like I just related. But I truly hope that VI will be able to stoke that still burning fire a bit. A fun new Armored Core game to play, that is all I want and is something I never thought I would ever see on PC. (edit: I really hope it has good customization for input. I have a good HOTAS and I really want to try using it for this game)

FS has used enemies that have telegraphed attacks in the past. Infact, the last enemy on part 1 of AC4 uses such attacks. First off, it will always lead with a single sniper round shooting raight at you as the match starts. In the cutscene, you can see him slam his weapon before taking aim. The second telegraphed attack is 1 where he takes a stance before firing several explosives around. This attack is easily dodged. The 3rd attack is what would later become assault armor in part 2 (ACFA)

I was the weird kid, i always talked about Armored Core while everyone else was talking about Final Fantasy, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Kingdom Hearts, etc. I have played these game since the first one back on the PS1. Ive played them into the dirt. It wasnt until DS3 i was able to draw a line between AC and DS that they have the same build system, minus the RPG stat leveler. The building of gear, weapons, spells(more weapons), was very similar. I cant tell you how excited i am for everyone to enjoy my addiction with me.

Fun fact, the former main composer, Kota Hoshino, is self-taught. I also heard he can't read music notation but I need to double check that. From Software does an amazing job of being technically primitive but artistically profound. Elden Ring doesn't theoretically look that great when you break it down against other modern titles, but you don't notice it because their art direction and artists are fantastic. Kinda like how WoW launched alongside (slightly after) EQ2, which are like 2 graphical generations apart but used art and styling to win out while also working across a greater range of hardware. Should run, look, and play great in true From Software fashion.

Something to note: Thread legs just like quad legs also allow you to move freely while firing off your back weapons such as grenade launchers. The difference is thread legs can also use the grenade launcher while on flight, whereas quad legs can only do it on land. Basically quad legs are faster than thread legs in terms of land movement, but with the downside of not being able to fire the grenade launchers mid-air. EDIT: Yes that boost-turn is indeed insane. It's almost like the turn rate is that of an anime-mech like gundam. I think they also took inspiration as to how anime mechs fight.

Your clip for showing older tank legs was from Armored Core 4, not 3 just to let you know. Also some quick trivia for the kick move. It was originally introduced in Armored Core V and was actually a very useful melee option for mechs that didn't have any melee weapons equipped onto them. To perform it, you had to hold down the quick-boost button and your mech would perform a kick at the end of its quick-boost. Damage was based on mech weight and how fast you are moving when performing the kick, which means performing it out of an over-boost did much more damage than just performing it out of a regular boost. Tank legs could one-shot most other ACs with this kick due to how heavy they were, lol.

Just something to add on to AC4's movement in particular. Free flight isn't the only thing brand new to the game. They gave boosting inertia properties. So you're able to shoot the weight of your AC in multiple directions, causing you to gain incredible amounts of speed via a technique a.k.a "Chain boosting". AC6 looks like we'll get something close to that, according to the footage of the side boosting button making a come back, so chain boosting might be something worth learning to gain the upperhand in piloting your AC if we are given a bigger learning curve to work with. It's also worth noting that using it this technique constantly will drain your boost gauge at a dramatic rate if you don't pay attention. It was an everyday thing seeing fellow Lynx alike misjudge how many chains they can pull off only to plummet down to the ground due to spending all their energy, which in the AC4 world could mean being punished severely, or outright death. Back in the day, it was common practice in pvp lobbies to chip away at opponents with haphazard chain boosting to throw off the opponents FCS target aqqusition systems (Still is to my knowledge), though with future updates and patch, it became more of a gimmick for Light weight's/Quad's/Chicken legs to take full advantage of. Another example of using/setting up chain boosting is purging your weapon systems to dramatically increase AC energy performance to surprise your opponents, if they are conditioned by your normal speed (Yes, even if you run out of ammo on weapons, either energy or physical, they still draw and encumber your AC's energy/weight passively, so purging allows you to shed that dead weight and make some very surprising plays if your opponent isn't ready for it.) Speed is life fellow Ravens.

I'm really impressed you've actually gone through and played a good number of the games, and have even brought up a very important piece of movement tech in the older titles in the form of boost hopping. One of the big things about this technique is that it not only is the most efficient method of movement in all of these older titles, that moment you're in the air with your boosters deactivated is the perfect opportunity to begin strafing in different directions to dodge enemy fire, making it not only a powerful mobility but also evasion tactic, invaluable in most of the games especially when dueling enemy ACs. I was initially in disagreement on the speed of the quickturn in 6's trailer being faster than in 4 or FA, but upon rewatching, it does seem to be a few frames faster, nothing noticeable but when you consider this game is meant to be more in line with 3 and 5's movement, having a quickturn like that is huge. I really hope the lockon isn't a souls-style lockon, I'm not sure if the FCS part would survive such a transition, which would mean less customization and taking a less active role in the combat by having the game maintain lock for you; keeping enemies in lock and constantly darting your eyes from the battle to your radar to keep track of enemy NEXTs is part of what made 4 and FAs combat so exhilirating and engaging in my opinion, so I really hope this doesn't end up being the case. Regarding the concept of a stagger system in AC, stability has always been present in the series, it determines how much hitstun you take and what attacks can even stun you in the first place. AC5 already had a system similar to the one they mention in the interview, wherein getting hit repeatedly would incur stun and cause your AC to receive additional damage. A bigger emphasis on this system could indeed make fights a bit more dynamic and could incentivize the usage of melee weapons more, which I consider a solid idea. I do hope that shoulder mounted/extensions and inside parts come back, but I don't believe we've seen any ACs with these parts yet so I don't believe it will be returning. Likewise, aside from the EMP shockwave one core we've seen does, I hope there are more varied and interesting core gimmicks this time including the return of Overboost, I saw a torso part that looks like the old GAEA Exceed Orbit core, but I don't foresee EO returning, though maybe something similar will be present. Hearing you go from finding the garage intimidating to being the main drive for continuing to play was fascinating and welcoming to hear, nice to see you've successfully been indoctrinated into the Raven's Nest, Vaati.

Vaati is right saying that customisation is both one of the most intimidating aspects to learn while also being one of the most fun once you've begun to get the hang of it. Thankfully, you get access to a test arena where you can pit your latest creation against various types of enemies including a test AC free of charge and consequence. This is good for getting a feel for how the latest iteration of your AC handles without having to worry mucking up a mission and loosing money. You'll most likely end up making multiple builds for different types of missions so make plenty of use of the test arena.

“Let’s see how far they can fly…on borrowed wings.” Is just such a badass line to me. Idk if it’s referencing us and our character, but if it is it’s in keeping with the idea of being tarnished or the curse of the undead like the previous souls games. Since we’re owned by some company and have a “handler” maybe they have their thumb on a kill switch if we don’t do as we’re told, putting us quite literally “on borrowed time.”Maybe that’s what it means to be a Raven, we’re given “borrowed wings” in exchange for whatever we can get for our handler.

Stagger actually already implemented in the ACV and ACVD, its happens when you taken hit when your AC overboosting and got hit by attacks depends on your stability stats can handle. it'll sent your AC toppled or flinch until it lands or until it recover, in this series its just turned into a window for attack that is even deadlier instead of deadly minor inconvenience.

The idea of a stagger system into a mech fighting game reminds me of one of my favorite games of all time, Custom Robo Battle Revolution, which had so many customization options that created very unique playstyles. for those who remember and fought Valkyrie in the very first armored Core game. yeah. getting stun locked by that rapid firing slug gun is a pain. and the mechanic is not new in AC. IMO, From Soft refined it from a mini mechanic that relies on weapon stagger/stun ability VS Leg/overall Unit Stability value to something close to FF7R's pressure gauge.

My recommended has been non stop “ArMoReD cOrE tRaIleR ReAcTiOn!!!??!?!?!!!😮” and it’s just two guys going “Yooooo, man, this looks cool guys” so super refreshing to see someone who cares actually take the time and effort to create an interesting informative and useful video, With context from past games explained in a really easy to digest and understand manner, which when I’ve tried to look for it before I haven’t been able to find.

A stagger like system has always been part of series, if you fall from very high without breaking your fall by boosting your ac takes a hard fall and takes longer to recover and move again, similarly if you are hit by some of the heavier weapons your ac "recoils" or "flinches" and depending on the weapon you can kinda stun lock enemies or get stun locked yourself. But this seems to be an evolution of that and closer to how it worked on sekiro with it being an actual bar/gauge or whatever and something you can more easily exploit

Yeah, one of the weak points of light AC has always been that once they take a hit from something that staggers them they may as well already be dead. It's why medium AC are king, having no real advantage or weakness against the other weight classes. Mediums with a rifle and a battle rifle were the counter to pretty much everything except an ultra-light AC with a sniper rifle or an ultra-heavy with an far too many cannons and missiles in ACVD to be honest.

@@Arukorstza ACVD being so heavily focused on online resulted in some weird metas, in games that kinda focused on not necessarily catering to that. I forget all the intricacies mind you, but the medium-heavy RJ with like, energy shotguns or SMGs or something, being the absolute king of close to medium range combat killed that game for me. I've always been a blader (and yes, I am eating HEALTHY with AC6, it seems) so my experience pretty much entirely hinges on stagger thresholds, speed, dodging, and my ability to do what I do. ACV and VD especially, that just wasn't a thing. The same targeting issues I ran into in 4 and 4A were multiplied by a somewhat unwieldy movement system and inability to really modify height properly, on top of just... not being the highest burst damage around, despite having the most drawbacks. Couple that with the sniper ultra-lights you aluded to, or the big ol beefy bois rocking enough firepower to actively counter those medium-heavy RJs, and it wasn't much fun. Light has always been in a weird spot of requiring you know what "small arms fire" you're likely to come in contact with and have juuust enough stability to shrug that off, while dodging anything bigger like missile spam or cannons, but it's been fun to me. If you don't match those requirements it's gonna be hell, though.
