Your ears would be bleeding sitting in front of them. I marched back in 2010 and our instructors wore hearing protection. That’s only 24 of the 100-115 horn players in a drum corps. Repping sets where you’re in front of the trumpet section usually ended in headaches for me.

As a former trumpeter and current drummer, that timing is astonishing. And it’s all short staccato notes with relatively long gaps, so there’s nowhere to hide timing mistakes - there’s been a *lot* of practice just synchronising everyone’s internal metronomes for this.

It’s not that your band could never, it’s just that DCI groups spend weeks doing nothing all day but drilling music and movement to absolute precision, with several weekend camps throughout the school year beforehand as well. The vast majority of school bands simply don’t have the time or resources to commit to that much work on a single goal.

Maybe it would take TWO pianists...instead of 40 brass players. LMAO

I'd like to think that there is more to music - timbre and expression being one part that is hard to match when playing a piece on a instrument that it was not originally intended for. The result might be interesting, but not what the piece is originally meant for - thus, I would argue, it would not be "pulled off".

But I am saying that a pianist could most likely play the piece in its entirety. Play the COMPOSITION in its entirety. This is more of a hypothetical argument anyways. I am not interested in practicing this piece to prove my point...LOL There is much better music out there than this...to learn on piano.

I always wonder where these DCI musicians go in the music world, because it’s genuinely amazing intonation and hard work here, but I rarely hear any stories of DCI members continuing in various sectors of the music industry. If anyone knows examples I’d love to hear them because these guys are fierce players!

Most of the DCI musicians that I know that are actually planning to go into the music industry full-time are planning to be band directors. There’s also a lot of DCI musicians who are doing it just for fun, and go into other industries once they age out.

Yep. The chord starts on beat 2, and the leads jump to the high F on the downbeat of the next bar. The last chord lasts 9 counts total (10 counts including the quarter rest on the downbeat), so the 2/4 measure should actually be the last bar, not the third last. Transcriber got the total number of beats right, just mixed up some counting at the end.

For those who don't know, this is from the blue devil's show in 2017 titled Metamorph. As of lately it has become one of the most iconic DCI shows that a lot of people like. The 3rd-to-last and 2nd-to-last chords (mm. 32-33) sound like planing maj9 chords to me, with the 7ths doubled below the roots. Some notes are just very faint compared to the screaming lead. So I believe m. 32 is missing a written Cb, and 33 is missing an F. That kind of explains why the final chord sounds epically unexpected, but still conclusive: the final cadence can be seen as a tritone substitution of sorts (bII maj9 to I add9). Crazy! Awesome writing and playing, thanks for uploading the transcription.
