On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

The grandfather to the A10 is the Hawker Hurricane. North Africa in El Alamein 6th Squadron and reweaponized that glorious plane with #2 40mm Vickers type-S cannons for anti tank warfare. They flew near ground level to do it. Brave men flying nearly unarmored in a slow aircraft at only 288 mph. Lt.Pip Hillier became the first tank killer ace at 9 destroyed on 21st Panzer Division.

@@DrBF3000 Although that is true, I'm pretty sure the AP rounds of the A10 can punch through. It was meant to hunt Soviet tanks from above, and the sides in some cases with the gun; Tiger's armor would be weak enough at the roof of turret, hull, and maybe the turret sides to let those through, spelling.. well, doom for the crew when 100+ rounds just tear through. But that's my thoughts on it.

The 1980 movie The Final Countdown a Nimitz class aircraft carrier goes back in time, ending up the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. When they cannot find a way back, decide that they must defend the nation, so they launch all of their fighters to confront the incoming Japanese attack planes. We never got to see the battle because the time vortex that brought them to 1941 re-opened, sucking the aircraft carrier and her airborne flight wing back into the present day. I, and many people who saw this movie, and others in the comments would love to see how this battle would’ve played out.

He didn't have to shoot _through_ the engine block; if you watch the reverse view of his second pass, it looks as if he clipped something shooting through the engine deck to start an engine fire -- which basically nullifies the contract the crew signed to fight that particular vehicle, even given the fire extinguisher inside the tank.

For anyone interested, the German tanks protrayed here appear to be the Panzer IV Ausf.H or Ausf J's. They appear to have the Schurzen applique armor and the longer barreled 75mm main guns. The Panzer iv was the true workhorse of the wehrmacht during ww2. The flat one are Stug III Assault guns/tank destroyer, also a pretty good TD for its time.

@andrewlester4465 yeah that was weird. The Panzer IV'S firing accuracy was mediocre at best, so firing it on the move probably wasn't the best idea. Also, it is possible to note that while the Sherman HAD a stabilizer, many crews weren't trained on maintaining it. Those that were loved it however

The only very minor criticism I'd possibly have is if the A-10 was in contact with ground forces - they wouldn't be able to give him modern coordinates for a strike. They'd have to use grid reference, and either the A-10 using that older system, or the pilot would need a map on his knee. There was no GPS back then. Though INS could be programmed with coordinates, the accuracy reduces with aerobatic maneuvers. But the good old "There are 3 enemy tanks just east of the church!" would actually be adequate instructions for Hog pilots. His sensors would pick them up easily enough. Though I am happy that he addressed the GPS guidance issue at only 1:35 or so into the video.

With precedence in watching you produce videos for years, I very much enjoy this content. I’ve watched The Final Countdown, silly movie, but captivating… to say the least. It would be great seeing an F-14 in Pearl Harbor… or an F-22 in Desert Storm… let alone a Helicopter in WWII! Keep it up, content is out there!

Before would have been cool too. The Jericho trumpets on the Stukas were pretty effective psychologically - imagine the abject terror an unknown aerial beast bearing down on you would create as it spread its fiery angelic wings while it laid waste to your men.

An A-10 can carry up to 16,000 lbs of ordinance. In contrast, a B-17 can carry 4000 lbs for a long range mission, or 8000 lbs for a short range mission. In terms of ordinance dropped, 1 A-10 = 2-4 B-17s and much more precise.
@seanmalloy7249
@seanmalloy7249 Ай бұрын
The absolute payload limit for a B-17 was, with the rarely-used external bomb racks, 17,600 pounds, although it would reduce the combat radius even more than the 8,000-pound internal maximum load. So one A-10 could deliver the same payload as a weight-limited B-17, albeit as you describe with a much more precise delivery; the A-10 could deliver bomb-by-bomb targeting, while the B-17 could only set drop count and interval, so you could drop, say, four bombs at a time a half-second apart, then you'd have to swing _way_ out so that, when you turned around, you'd have enough time for the Norden bombsight to settle -- and even that much would have put an enormously-higher load on the bombardier than they were trained for -- under normal circumstances it was 'pickle the whole load'.

In a permissive air environment it would look about the same with most modern armor. Would be interesting to see this again with contested airspace from the Luftwaffe.

The 82nd ABN Division used to do a capability show called The CAPEX back in the 80s. 82nd was my first duty assignment in 84 but I only got to see one CAPEX. Two things absolutely terrified me. The cluster bombs the A10 dropped and the Vulcan 20mm in an anti-armor roll where they could engage ground units so long as they had military equipment such as canteens and BDUs. I jumped into Panama and I saw Vulcans absolutely demolish a multi story building with troops inside. Nasty. I fought in Afghanistan 03-10. The advances not only in targeting but in explosive power was insane. Imagine what we’ll see in another 25 years.

The Willhelm-scream 😄 LOL. Thank you for another, as always, great video! If I saw an A10 being unfriendly, be in WW2 or any other time-period, while I was on the ground, I would try to surrender. If I didn´t have something like a shoulder-mounted Mega-Stinger missile or could fire an nuclear-tipped AAA-shell 😅. Br

Hey brother, this is your bread and butter- doing these anachronistic, completely awesome scenarios that are just pure FUN! As small boys this is the stuff we fantasize about and are intrigued by: having a scoped AK-47 or (insert bad-ass weaponry here) in the civil war…YES please! Below are many great concepts. Just sayin, for boys and men alike, these are innate feel good scenarios. Love the channel!
