This is what training to FAILURE looks like.

Question, shouldn’t sets that are taken to failure look like that, and by that he meant this, in which case, no, a set to failure should never look like this, but rather something like this. That’s because training to failure is not an excuse to use improper technique, in fact this is where you really need to dial in and make sure that your form stays consistent, since these reps are the ones that elicit the most muscle growth. And if you allow your form to break down, you’re just taking away the tension from the target muscle and allowing other muscles or even momentum to compensate, which just creates a lot of additional fatigue with very little hypertrophic benefit.
So regardless of how difficult those last few reps get, always make sure to utilize the exact same technique and tempo as you did with your first, with the only exception being the speed of your concentric. That means, you should still be controlling the eccentric, the change in direction and using a full range of motion, the only thing different is the fact that you're lifting the weight up slower. Obviously there should be some visible struggle on those last couple reps, and maybe that means your form gets a little wobbly, that’s perfectly fine, just make sure it isn’t excessive and you’re actually making a genuine attempt to minimize as much form breakdown as possible.
I hope that helps and subscribe for more lifting tips! #Gym #Shorts

Training to failure is NOT an excuse for your form to get sloppy!!! Sure, your reps will slow down and your legs might wobble, but your technique NEEDS to stay the same! If not, then you aren't actually using your muscles to complete the rep, and in that case, what's even the point of training to failure? 😅 EDIT: Also, I know I didn't technically 'fail' on any of these sets, but all of them were RIR 0, meaning I couldn't have been able to get another one if I tried. Regardless, the same concepts still apply. Looking to get protein powder, creatine, or any other supplements? Go to tidd.ly/3k9BR9d and use code "MAXE" at checkout for 40% off!

You absolutely can use momentum to push past failure. It absolutely will drive hypertrophy. The idea of using the exact same form throughout each rep is great and is most likely going to be 90% of your work or more. But there are very good reasons to venture outside into that ten or so percent, to push past strength plateaus or to add additional tension on the muscles if time is more limited.

Hey,I have a question. But first, I want to thank you for your videos and your no BS approach. As a beginner, it will benefit me to start off on the correct path. QUESTION: When working to failure (dumbbell curls/presses, etc) as far as sets and reps go, I can do 8-10 with my left arm and 15+with my right. Do I need to keep the sets/reps even? 10 reps left and 10 reps, right? Or just go to failure with each arm? Also, should I do an extra set or two with my left arm? Any advice or suggestions would help me greatly. Thanks

That’s failure in the positive portion of the exercise. Dorian Yates talks about it, you reach failure and are weakest in the positive part of a rep, that’s why you should sometimes do forced reps using help or momentum to get it up but then going really slow on the negative portion till you can’t do that anymore or even doing isometrics to failure instead or forced reps where you pause for 3-5 seconds between reps so you have just enough energy to get another rep out which really pushes the muscle to it’s max.
