Rest in peace Discord Stage Discovery. I mostly used it for background noise when I worked, but that doesn't mean I didn't listen to the discussions from time to time. The fact that it was live and I could see who was also listening in made me feel less lonely. It wasn't like I could go to a coffee shop or library to gain the same atmosphere of being surrounded by people, so Discord provided me with that small paradise.

Not gonna lie, stages have been pretty useless for my server. We are a book club-ish server with a few thousand members, and there's not much to hold a giant public vc about. Going public just invites people who have no clue what's happening or haven't even heard of the books. And just in general they're pretty usless with so many people wanting to tune in listening to... what exactly? None of our mod teams can really find a use for stages and it's just... there.

Of course, the stage channels won't be a need in all servers on the platform, and for some servers, this just won't be necessary, but when servers become larger, VCs just won't cut it and be too chaotic with hundreds of users joining, cluttering up the whole channel list and making talking unbearable. The server I moderate for has already found some great uses for it such as having a professional coach coming to do a QnA, having experts come in to give a presentation about the game, and a few others. I would imagine that we soon will be able to screen share in stages, which adds a whole lot to it e.g movie nights!
