That art museum used to be the Royal Palace back when Romania was a monarchy. Today the unofficial (symbolic) royals reside in Elisabeta Palace (near Village Museum). Other royal properties are: Peleș Castle in Sinaia (it's a must, spectacular inside and out) Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest (today it's the "president's house", the museum part should be open for visitors); Curtea Domnească / Princely Court in Târgoviște (dating way back, before the monarchy when parts of Romania were ruled over by Domnitori / Voievozi); Curtea de Argeș (probably older than Târgoviște Court, there's an ornate Cathedral and, separately, the burial place for the Romanian royals); Săvârșin Castle (secluded, open only in summertime)
