In India we buy grooms in the name of "dowry". Its called dowry instead of something else because the men of the Indian sub continent have too much ego to directly admit that they are actually being bought by the bride's family for the bride. Its like saying "we are giving you this amount of money/ goods to look after our daughter, you don't have to look after her for free". Absurd but this is the culture in some Asian, Muslim countries.
