I agree, If they want people to convert to EVs they need to make it as easy to charge as it is to fuel a petrol vehicle. having to register or buy a subscription is just a way to track you and make extra profits.

Hi Marc I'm a Zero Motorcycle Owner, and a manage the Official Spanish Club of Zero Owners. We are 125 members and a few of us are totally hooked to your electric travel trough England right now. I kindly invite you to be part of our community, although I am afraid that most of the time it is spoken in Spanish, of course. I would also like to give you some tips to improve your autonomy: Coast mode. If you set the neutral regen to 0, you will not have a regen from the motor, so you can activate the regen with just a click on your brake lever. Physics says sail mode will take you farther but you may need to get used to the new drive mode a bit. Your tire pressure is too high. This also helps the range, that is, the less surface that touches the ground, the better performance you will have, but it is still somewhat dangerous because you will have less efficiency in braking. About the applications, I also understand that it is absolute torture. The most "global" so to speak are PlugSurfing which you already use, Chargemap and Chargepoint+. Specifically in the UK Bonnet is also used a lot, and I can send you a code so that with your registration, they give you 20 kWh. Less is nothing. But this code is for monthly subscriptions. You are still interested in studying it and during your stay in the United Kingdom it can be beneficial. The code is RRZJ9X (the code only works with refill system, monthly suscription. You can use one month - free 20 kWh type and then unsuscribe). clubzeromotorcycles.es

What I see in my country is a large uptake in electric scooters. They take a standard voltage plug in, and they’re cheaper to purchase, so accessible to low income people. Electric motorcycles I’m not sure on, due to the recharge issues already pointed out. But I’m maybe interested in an electric motorcycle. Lol

You're absolutely right about the charging network and all the apps and providers. If EVs are going to take off the whole charging network needs to use the same cables, be available for all vehicles, and be able to just pay with a card as you would in a petrol station. Imagine how annoying it would be if you needed accounts with Shell, Esso, Texaco etc just to get fuel.

Agree with you on the annoyance of registering to use a charge point. The government has now made it a requirement for new units installed to have open access through debit or credit card. Of course, that doesn't mean it applies to existing infrastructure. One tip. You can ignore InstaVolt. It's my go-to network for rapid charging, because in my experience they're reliable and installed at least in pairs, so there's some redundancy, but they don't have AC. Your best bet is to filter in Zap Map for AC only. When I had my Zero DSR with Charge Tank, I tended to avoid the rapid charge units with fixed AC cables and use the smaller and more common AC only units. Though, as you've experienced, the BP/Polar ones can be terrible!

Hi Marc Just an idea regarding security for your gear on your bike when charging if you decided to leave it for any reason I have can recommend Pacsafe mesh webbing security cover for your gear. I have used Pacsafe webbing bag cover when I have been touring on my motorbike. It is compact, easy to use and hard for strangers to get into. I throw my jacket and helmet in it as well and leave it with the bike. I have confidence that it will be there when get back. Keep up the good work buddy, you are doing a fantastic job.

It's already in the works and the first EV's have it implemented. The Idea is that you store your contact and payment information once within the vehicle and then the vehicle authorizes itself when you connect it to a charger. Not quite there yet, but I think this will be the best solution. You can then decide if you want the charging cost to add up to your leasing bill trough your leasing bank or if you want to pay it with an extra provider that you choose yourself, etc.

Hi Marc, your videos are great - I‘ve seen them all. But allow me two comments. You should be careful when charging at an household socket with an extension cord. Always unwind the cable completely to avoid overheating and The overheating is also called the coil effect. This occurs when the cable has not been completely unwound under high loads or the connected device or devices require too much power and the maximum power is exceeded. And the second thing is about your helmet. I really like its style and color. But the color is definitely a problem in contrast to the nice dark red paint color of your bike. As an esthete it really offends my eyes. 😉 How about a similar helmet in the color of your bike?👍 But don‘t ja ale me too serious… if you like it, then it‘s of course perfectly fine! Have a great trip through the 🇬🇧

I bought a 2022 Zero S 7.2. I use it only for commuting from home to work (30 miles one way) and back. If I actually wanted to do "motorcycle stuff" like travel beyond 40 miles, I would have never bought an electric. I was spending $240 US each month on gasoline driving just to work so the Zero actually will pay for itself. I've been using the 110V charging port plugged into a wall outlet to charge and it is working out fine. I love my Zero.
@frotobaggins7169
@frotobaggins7169 2 жыл бұрын
I like the idea but $12,000 for 100 mile range is just a straight up deal breaker. I think my motorcycle is bad with a 220 mile range. Then there is the whole time to charge and charger availability problem that just seals the no vote for me. It works great like you said for commuting in a large metropolitan area but as soon as you leave the city, the problems compound. Here the 98mph top speed would likely keep it off the hiway as you would have to ride at 90% of maximum just to keep up with traffic going 85mph.
@sissonsk
@sissonsk 2 жыл бұрын
@@frotobaggins7169 I use surface streets and my average speed is 35mph. There are lots of traffic lights and stop signs on the way to work. The cost of the Zero is my only misgiving. But, like I said, if I wanted to ride a motorcycle anywhere other than to work and back I would have not bought an electric bike. When I bought the Zero, gas prices were steadily climbing. It seemed like a decent gamble. We'll see what happens next year but I'll stick it out with the Zero.

This is the very antithesis of what it means to ride a motorcycle. Riding a motorcycle is about Fun and Freedom, not worrying about range and where you're going to charge the bike next and all the crap that revolves around finding a plug. And waiting. I fill my tank, get on and go, knowing that there are plenty of gas stations wherever it is that I'm going and can ride until I'm tired of it. Drink some more Kool-Aid.

You should use the recommended tire pressures in the bike manual, 248 kPa (36 PSI) front and rear. Overinflating can lead to premature tire wear, and poor braking, but on an electric motocycle can add maybe a few kilometers on the range due to a smaller contact patch :) .

hi love the video , fantastic scenery ,not sure when you made this clip but as from july 22 that provider charges ;-) 0.66 p per kw , FYI its good practice to always fully unwind the extension reel when drawing high loads ( 10 amps in your case ) other wise they overheat badly melting if your lucky or catching fire if your unlucky. This is not due to the load but to the electromagnetic induction within the wound coil + the 10 amp load. Once again love the content.

Marc, glad you seem to be enjoying your visit and also that you couldn't resist the full breakfast. No willpower haha! Regarding your query about the pressure shown on the tyre wall, I found this on the Bike Social website from the Continental UK concessionaire. It seems that pressure marking you mentioned is likely to be in relation to the load index of the tyre and not the actual manufacturer recommended pressure for your machine. This is what he said in relation to an example photo he had posted; "The maximum load - here it’s 365kg - is the most the tyre can support at a standardised pressure - in this case 42psi. This isn’t necessarily the pressure recommended for your bike, so check your owners’ manual or the tyre manufacturer’s fitment guide." Hope this helps and ride safe. 😊

After 3 years with an Energica SS9+ i can't complain loading a CCS fast charger works uncomplicated in Germany. In hotels, when I'm away overnight, the 230 V AC from the socket is sufficient, it doesn't matter if it takes 5-6 hours to charge. The driving pleasure with an e-bike without a gearbox is great and the range of over 200 km on country roads is enough for me.

Imagine if you had to drive or ride into a petrol station, register with an app for the bowser to work and begin pumping petrol into your tank. That’s if registration works, and the bowser is not out of order. Yes, these are teething problems, but a mainstream rollout of electric vehicles should really be a bit better planned than this. It’s good to see some chargers don’t require registration. Should have been like that from the start.

Not sure I have to say this, but you don't inflate the tyre to what is the max on the tyre, but to what the manufacturer of your bikes says the tyres need to be inflated to. Max pressure on the tyre will very likely be waaaaay too much pressure for your bike and you will have reduced grip. Keep in mind that one type of tyre will be certified to be used on a multitude of different bikes with different weights and configurations. I would follow the bike's manual 🙂

Hi, yes indeed these charging payment systems don't help at all. Very nice editing trick with the eye link (kind of "eye contact" btw the narrative and the lyrics, well done ;). I was also wondering, do you think it could make a difference if you say "I need a parking space for my ELECTRIC motorbike ?" Maybe not if people think u will need to charge ur motorbike but might be afraid about the cost cos they have no clues about it and about these new electric vehicles. Travel safe and enjoy! :) P.S. : so there is a sound when u are charging, a king of turbine or fan? Does it happen every time u charge?

Marc, is that a new crack in your phone mate? Bummer, there is one scene where the crack looks really bad. About 42 PSI: if I was filling up my tires on a cool morning, and it was going to be hotter later in the day, I might not fill them all the way, other wise I probably would. It also depends on road conditions, on wet roads maybe not full at 42 but 35-38? Glad you're making so many new friends...Safe Travels...Rich in California

Great vid.. Interesting to see the real positives & negatives of owning an e-moto.. Sure run good, quiet, if we could get a common plug or set of plugs, (one for bikes, one for fast charging heavier cars, maybe trucks in the future), so that you can charge at all stations, stop the mandatory registration at each station, advertisement limits.. etc.. Nawww, gov’t’s got you by the balls. They dont like you, you are eliminated from charging. I miss the freedom of the USA in the 60’s-90’s, now shit is too complicated.

Check your tyre pressures in the manual for your bike. Too high or low pressure can not only affect your fuel mileage, it can also severely affect your bikes handling and braking, especially in bad weather. Without the proper cintact patch on the tyre, you could lose the front or rear end in cornering or braking, or even have the tyre pop off the rim. Ride safe

It is indeed the hopeless inadequacy of politics regarding standardization of electric charging. This is sadly enough also true in Europe, not only the UK. But as EV's are becoming the future to be this problem will also be solved by time Also, electric motorbikes with larger range are coming up already like the new Lightning, and hydrogen engines are being used and developed as well, both with electric- or combustion systems. Enjoy your travels in the UK, I enjoy your videos!

bike manufacturers tyre pressures are for the tyre supplied with the vehicle, if you change to different tyres then use that pressure

From what I've read there are 3 or 4 cable connections for EV's and you need an adapter cable to be able to charge at different stations. With the varying voltages, amperage and fees it makes me wonder why they don't standardize charging stations.

Cost of ownership and difficulties with charging put me off. Standardised cables and simplified charging network would go a long way to getting people on board. Cost of ownership will eventually reduce over time.

I've been driving electric cars for 4 years now, and payment sucks except for Tesla! Had a Tesla for 2 years and they are way ahead. The last year in Sweden chargers with credit card readers has started to show up. Finally! To bad you only have type2. CCS would have been great.

6 UK pounds for 100 miles range? That’s no better than a ICE bike. And the EV cost three times as much as an ICE to begin with.

"Range anxiety doesn’t even have to be a thing already" It is in Australia, regardless of 'registering" or whatever. Plus our electricity production is the single dirtiest industry, contributes more than 30% of Australia's carbon emissions. So at this stage, people in Aust claiming they have an electric vehicle for the environment are not really, they're part way there, but honestly, they are driving "remote emission vehicles" not zero emission. Hopefully that will change, but it will take a long time, currently we don't even have the infrastructure to carry the extra current needed if even 25% of Australians went to EV's Plus, as an avid motorcyclist I worry about how silent that bike is. People don't see motorcyclists now, but not hearing them as well?

I think the chips with the breakfast were overkill. As are chips for charging. Also it seems cool now but with more electric vehicles out there you could be queuing for a charge.

Would also be great to see more EV bikes with clutches. I know a few do have them but not enough. The clutch is most importantly a safety device and it should be a mainstay, gears or not.

Not sure if I understand how a clutch can be used for safety other than during slow speed control? Scooters don't have them and they are safe enough.

@@elobiretv If the bike does anything you don't like, you just pull it in and disconnect power to the rear wheel and then you're just making noise. Especiallyif you're mew to riding and whiskey throttle. It allows another way of slowing down without having to quickly roll off the throttle or hit the brakes as well and of course, it helps gate power in low speed manoeuvres.

I think I already said, Marc, any NEW public charger installed since the beginning of the year (or was it last year?), HAS to have card only payment options. However, there are a LOT of chargers already out there, as you've discovered, which are locked in to some BS company offering where they want you to jump through some hoops to hook you into their "ecosystem"... :(

Yeah stop to do anything on the left (like that reset), not the centre reservation unless you want to become a bonnet mascot. If a hatched box has a dotted line you can enter it, if it has a solid line you cannot, like dotted and solid white centre lines.

I don't doubt you've covered this elsewhere in previous videos, I would like to know what your typical 'safe' range is over non M Way roads, so..towns, countryside riding.. and, how long typically it takes to re-charge ? From what I've seen so far, I'd be reluctant to buy an EV.. the UK is responsible for just 1% of harmful emissions, as of 2020..and even that is debatable. That alone is hardly worth the inconvenience.

My Triumph has been bought and paid off for quite some time...lol, my gas bicycle is as well and so is my old reliable peddle bike. We can surmise that electric motorcycles will see an end to dependence on ones self to fix and repair anything. Also please note that some of the materials like lithium used in batteries are finite as well as toxic. Technology must change in order for any kind of electric mode of transportation to survive. Remember just because you don't see the pollution used to create the electricity use to charge you cool new toy, its dumping it all in one spot.
