The "holding on to mania" thinng so painfully real as a bipolar person. Ive been over GH since her first drama era, but that part is brutally viscerally true. The come down from mania for me has always been more dangerous. Cause you are sober, having to deal with the consequences of your manic actions. Its always my darkest point in the cycle. Rebuilding.

Gabbie Hanna is a GREAT example on why you should go to therapy, and not use your audience, as a therapist.
@katieggg100

Gabbie has gone to therapy, but she openly admitted that she consciously twists the narrative of situations to her therapist so that she doesn't sound "crazy". So her therapist is probably validating how she's behaving because she doesn't know the whole story, which is even worse than not getting therapy.

as someone who also has bipolar type one i feel really bad for gabby, i feel so much for her. i have a chest piece, a full sleeve and a hand piece that i got done in a manic episode and would remove if i could. i also am a very lonely person. it is hard struggling alone with severe mental health issues. sending her healing vibes. edited to add: it’s very common with bipolar one to cling to mania and have a mourning period after diagnosis. this is a lifelong battle and it’s earths shattering to learn your entire way of life has to shift.

The realization of what is happening and what needs to be done to become stable is gut wrenching. The feeling of mania is simply addicting and you have to keep yourself from leaning into it. Mania is like the soup your mother gave you when you were sick. Its like the hug of your closest relative and your partner looking into your eyes and telling you how much they love you. It is invigorating and warm and the best feeling your body could possibly give you. And it can destroy you ten-fold if encouraged. Finding out that I had to restrain the one emotion that made the wind sing on my skin and gave me such amazing feelings was devastating. But if you dont, it can make you do terrible things because of how good you feel and it makes the depression so much worse.

This girlie NEEDS a social break. A REAL one. I understand that expressing herself through the internet is part of her life and her job. But I cannot imagine any mental health issue where social media helped. I don’t know enough to say much, but grounding ourselves and being present is crucial in personal growth and being online it’s the opposite of that. This is such a hard situation because we don’t know enough. I want to say someone needs to step in and help her, but the reality is we don’t know if anyone has already tried, or if they have been turned down by Gabbie. At the end of the day I know what it’s like to have mental health issues and to spiral down. I really hope one day she’s ready to ask for help and that there’s people there to help when she needs it.

I think Gabbie can start to heal by finally coming clean and taking accountability for all of her mistakes I also think leaving LA and moving back to Pittsburgh would be good for her. As someone who has watched her and kept up with her journey on and off I notice she always looked happiest when she was around her siblings and nieces. I think her moving back near her hometown would be a great move for her. She can be a local artist maybe get into something like radio hosting plus i assume it’s cheaper to live in Pittsburgh than in LA.

I agree entirely with your comment. From what I’ve seen tho, she doesn’t seem to have a good relationship with her parents and might’ve experienced some sort of abuse from them so maybe that has to do with her not moving back to the state. I’m just speculating tho

@@Anna.ooxxoo I think she needs to keep some boundaries in terms of her parents for sure but she seems to have a good relationship with most of her siblings. I think moving to Pittsburgh would be a great move for her because it’s a fair distance from New Castle but not too far from her siblings. She could probably get a house as nice as the one she has in LA for a quarter/third of the price and she could be a local artist/musician or get into radio hosting of some sort. I feel she moved to LA with unresolved trauma and being in LA only made her mental health worse. I hope one day she can turn things around and finally find peace in her life.

She really doesn’t have much keeping her in LA aside from her house she owns and a few friends (that she can still FaceTime & Call). She definitely sounds like she misses her siblings and her nieces/nephews. She really needs to be near family who can help her in case she falls apart again. Moving back to Pittsburgh is something she really needs. I think going back to her hometown and remembering where she came from I think is a great way for her get better and grow.

As someone who suffers from manic episodes, the part (around 10:10) where she speaks about holding onto mania so to not come crashing down really hit me. It's not to excuse her patterns of behavior and all the shit she's done, but that particular part of her is something I completely empathize with. I also got a bunch of tattoos when I was manic in January and some are still unfinished because once the mania ended the willingness to have them did. It really does take a lot of self-reflection and a really good support system to keep yourself grounded with these types of disorders/MH issues. I hope she finds that

Here's the thing, part of realising that you are the problem is that you have to accept the things you did and the pain you have caused others, and you have to actually do it you can't just say you're doing it. I really hope she gets better but she has to understand, she HAS to understand, that she needs to stop forgiving others when she should be ASKING for forgiveness. It's so hard, I had a manic father and it was absolutely soul destroying to be around. I truly truly hope she can find a good place mentally, but I think she should get off social media completely for a while.

Everytime she does something like this she's "finally feeling herself" or "finally healing" I feel like that's a coping mechanism and a way to convince herself she's getting better but obviously she's not. She needs help real help not whatever she's been doing.

Absolutely! As someone who's had many unhealthy coping mechanisms over the years, things always felt the best when I was doing the worst because whatever I was doing was keeping me from facing how bad things were. And with Gabbie having no real friends it's a very slippery slope to devote yourself to some THING (practice, hobby, lifestyle, whatever) when it's also filling a lonely type of boredom that comes from being isolated.

I wish I had a way of telling Gabbie this I was put on a ventilator due to Covid. I got off of it a month later and I was miserable to be in the hospital. All I wanted to do was be out and go home. I felt incredibly guilty for being unhappy instead of grateful that I’m even alive , I told a chaplain about this stress I had, and he replied: guilt isn’t gratitude, being upset by things that aren’t going your way doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful for the things that are going your way. Im just gonna say this now, as an Angelino, it's not that LA is toxic it's very much who you choose to surround yourself with. Gabbie can move to another state but if she doesn't make an effort to find and appreciate the group of friends she has, she's going to continue to surround herself with yesmen who will only tolerate her to get something from her. I don't know if people know this but Los Angeles county is humungous, 2020 census says about 10 million people, that's excluding surrounding counties which are very much as populated as orange and san Bernardino. My point is that if she really wanted to it's not impossible to find a community but she needs to want to change.

She had asked fans a few weeks ago about dropping unreleased demos so I’m guessing she decided to drop them as a way to have something to look forward to. I have empathy for Gabbie I definitely think Gabbie’s Bipolar & mental health struggles are real and not for attention. It’s clear she’s been struggling with mental illness & “Mary Jane” addiction for years now. I do wish Gabbie would realize coming clean and taking accountability for her mistakes and wrongdoings over the years will help her heal accountability doesn’t only help the person you’ve hurt feel better it also helps you feel better and helps you grow. I do think Gabbie internally feels bad for the mistakes she’s made over the years but it’s difficult for her to face the fact she’s hurt people. A theory I have about Gabbie is that since she’s been a victim of abuse (She had an abusive childhood with abusive parents) & and she is a SA survivor. I think because of those factors it’s painful for her to face that she has in some ways she has done harm. Gabbie definitely does seem to be the type of person who is denial in intense situations. I wish she would realize taking accountability will help her heal and she can in some ways clear the slate and finally move forward. I feel she’s tried to put everything behind her but she’s done it unhealthy ways. Trying to ignore it & lashing out on people have only caused her more pain. I hope she realizes that most people don’t want to hurt her they just want her to taking full accountability and right her wrongs not only for the people she hurt but for herself as well. Despite all the chaos I do root for Gabbie to heal, grow and become a better version of herself. I hope she truly heals and she finally grows. When Gabbie does take proper accountability she does very well at it. Her apology she posted for encouraging cosmetic procedures on her audience was actually very good and very genuine. I want to see her give those types of apologies for her mistakes.

i used to feel awful for gabbie. truly. especially as someone who has been through things she’s claimed too as well. but it’s infuriating to see everytime i see her name on social media she’s doing something else to stigmatise mental health and blames the bad things she does on it. then like clockwork she releases a new project like a song, album youtube project etc. it’s really difficult to even believe the things she’s doing are genuine anymore, and not just because when does have “a mental breakdown” online it’s the only way she gets attention or people to speak about her nowadays

So many social media personalities are just lonely people with very complex mental issues. I wish there was some kind of filtering system where the platform can refer them to therapy or for medical attention, like how in schools if we notice a child with problems we pass on that information to other professionals and get them help and support. Then it feels like everything is getting better, you start to get things done, you begin to feel AMAZING like nothing can hurt you and youve BECOME GOD LIKE and then all of that is ripped from you. You come out of the fog and your body has changed, your home has changed, everything. Its devestating. That does not mean she should be allowed to continue. As someone with bipolar 2 disorder myself who was in a manic episode due to incorrect medication, I can tell you that this actually feels genuine from her. Manic episodes, untreated, can last a very long time. Marijuana can also cause mania for people with bipolar disorder (not always). When she says she was holding onto mania, she may have been since that feeling of being on top of the world feels good. When the "crash" comes, it's really hard. Lots of tears and lots of regret from things you have done. I don't like her for what she has done and said, but I recognize those tears. Those are tears of sadness and heartbreak over decisions she has made, and she seems genuinely sad and remorseful. Hopefully this projects her into a better life and teaches her how to treat people better.

I've always known gabbie and I share similar mental health struggles and as such have had similar bad relationships (mostly with friends) in the past, which is why I relate to her music so much. What I can't relate to is her poor ways of handling it. She's old enough to know she needs to be in therapy with these patterns and while she's in the headspace of knowing that, she needs to make sure she's seeking help to minimize risk in the future. I hate speculating about people's mental health, drama channels talking about it feels so vile. The crash after mania is one of the lowest lows a person can ever experience and I can't imagine how awful she feels knowing her mental health is being treated as just another drama on the internet. I hope before her next manic episode she seeks quality help and medication. Bipolar meds can't always stop manic episodes but they can help you be more aware during them, if that makes sense. I stopped following her during this last episode because it was so triggering. But I've been here standing up for her all the way up until then because I understand her head just isn't where people think it should be. You never understand it til you're the one going through it. Mental illness isn't an excuse to treat people like shit and her ego got in the way of her admitting that many times. But she's likely terrified. I always am after I have a manic episode. Add an audience to that? So scary I'm sure.

I won't be following her again because it's the only thing I can do to help make sure she stops living her life online, it's obviously so bad for her, no matter how badly she wants to hold onto it. All I can do is hope others follow suit. Stop talking about her for views, stop following her stuff. She needs to move on to heal and she won't if we keep enabling her. I respect Gabbie and value her life enough to STOP watching. Everyone else should too, stop the morbid curiosity that most people watch her for. It's like eugenia cooney, you have to stop enabling mentally ill people who are never going to heal with an audience.

I don't usually, but I do kinda feel bad for her. I just know what it's like to be in that place, and to not have or feel like you don't have friends or people to go to. That makes it even worse. I hope she moves out of LA and maybe closer to family. Not sure what that relationship is like, but maybe she could make actual friends somewhere else too.

she reminds me of a girl i know who seems to be going through a continuous identity crisis. she started off as a casual follower of astrology to full blown follower where it consumed her life, then went through the "crunchy" to alt-right pipeline, and has recently started saying some really concerning cult-like things. it kinda feels like gabbie hanna might be on that same path, where they immerse themselves in something and then quickly move onto something else when they start to feel out of place or isolated. idk tho i could be interpreting it wrong

I have conflicting feelings about Gabbie. I don't really like her as a person because of all the shit she's done in the past, but I do believe people can change, and she's clearly having a lot of issues regarding mental health. I think my feelings would change if she addressed everything and took accountability, then showed that she was improving. For now, though, I'll just say I don't like her, but I'm rooting for her to find an environment to heal and become a better person.

I'm bipolar, and I have to say, there were times when I was very inconsiderate of my friends, especially before I went and got help. Of course, upon reflection, they were also hugely inconsiderate of me always, but for completely unrelated reasons. With both those combined, though, I never went out of my way to be exceptionally terrible to them, and I never abused them like Gabbie abused Jessie Smiles. Granted, social media wasn't what it is today back then, so that might have also been a factor in why it never got that far, but still. I think, and that's just me, what she needs is to go off social media, first and foremost. I'm not talking a couple days where she pretends she doesn't check it, I mean a real break. No facebook, no TikTok, no insta, no nothing. Then, industrial-strength therapy, complete with appropriate medication and an actual willingness to face some hard truths. 'cause as it stands here, she's just doing the same old thing - an act of contrition for / with her social media following and lip service paid to what she really needs so WE can hear it, not so it comes to pass. Wanting to want to.

I could be wrong but like Biggie said more $$$ more problems. If this is an episode the more $$$ factors into her just being able to go drop at least 1,000 on tattoos on a whim. Only to drop even more money to suddenly get them removed. I really hope she gets the help she needs, it's clear this woman is struggling.

I’m going to be 100% transparent here. I really think people need to start being more open minded and accepting of her. Or she just shouldn’t be online period, because the patterns will not stop and she can end up really, truly harming herself. In like 2020 I was in a very hateful energy, thought cancel culture was the way to go and had a big part in a Twitter trend against her because of all the things she did, especially because of the Jesse situation. I am an SA victim myself so hearing her treat another SA victim the way she did was tragic. I think she truly feels remorse for her past, I think she truly wants to change herself for the better. I think the real problem is cancel culture & the hate does not mix with her mental health, she really cannot handle it and even though people preach “mental health awareness” people still think they can have a criticism for things they don’t understand when it comes to mental health. I empathize with her now. I want to support her and see her get better.

Agree I’ve always been in the middle when it comes to Gabbie I think the fans who defend everything she does and the people who are overly critical and even hateful of her are both equally as toxic and harmful. Gabbie needs to apologize to the people she has hurt and take accountability but the hate she’s had to deal with i think has crossed the line. Not to be morbid but I’m honestly shocked Gabbie hasn’t unalived herself. I just can’t imagine being in that position of dealing with so much hate. Gabbie is clearly a super sensitive person she isn’t someone who thrives off hate like Trisha Paytas & Nikocado Avocado it’s clear negative comments have taken a toll on her. I feel there needs to be a healthy way to hold her accountable without degrading her.

Sorry for the essay, I just have a lot of feelings about this! I think she's being genuine here. I've followed her since Vine and from a distance sine around 2017, and she's never been so honestly self critical without trying to justify it before. It's difficult to get the love and attention and support you need at a time like this when you've nuked every relationship in your life, so it's hard to see her like this. also bc it hits pretty close to home for me, it was like hearing my own thoughts!! I really feel for her. It can be a dark and scary frame of mind to be in and the hurt feels all consuming. Really looking at yourself and identifying problem behaviours is Very Hard Work!!! I hope she knows that she 1000% deserves the love and attention she needs (all humans do obv!). Hitting rock bottom and then looking at climbing your way back out, day by day, is a daunting place to be, especially when you're alone. There's a lot to be said about accountability but I think a situation like this calls for compassion. She can't do the work to mend bridges until she's on a more stable footing, although I understand that not everyone is open to hearing an apology. I think starting over by getting out of LA and getting a shit tonne of therapy to help her process stuff would be life changing for her!

i agree completely i grew up watching her and she was my favorite youtuber. As the scandals grew on i had to back up and just heard and tapped in to the scandals and drama that surrounded her. But watching all of this and knowing how she is this is really one of the 1st times she held herself accountable and like you said was self critical. That’s why i believe this is genuine this time. She has almost NEVER done this before so for her to just say this and admit to it says volumes to me

I genuinely wish Gabbi would change careers and move. I don't think LA is the problem for her... I think it's being an influencer. I feel like Gabbi struggles with being either too personal with fans, or treating them like just another number/cash supply. It's been too involved in ruining too many of her friendships. She can't figure out how to have a healthy relationship with her own fame, and it's been really sad to watch how unhealthy her life is. Agree I think the influencer scene just isn’t right for her but she hasn’t fully left because maybe she’s scared of the uncertainty of starting fresh. Obviously she can’t leave social media as a whole since it’s practically our culture now. I feel she would be best off moving back to Pittsburgh and maybe becoming a local artist or radio show host of some sort. I think it’s clear she kind of got pushed into these scene before she had a chance to recover from her past trauma and the pressure of maintaining fame has really made her mental health worse. In the end I feel bad for her because I do think she has been through a lot more than the average person goes through. She definitely needs to take accountability but I can’t imagine how much the Negativity and death threats from strangers have really impacted her. I hope she gets help and she finally gets to a place where she can finally come clean and take at least some accountability for her mistakes soon.
