In this video, I discuss fire opal -- what it is, what it isn't and where it is found. I concentrate on Mexican Fire opal, but fire opal from Ethiopian and Australia are also shown. I make an arrowhead (knapping) with Australian fire opal.

I really enjoy the vibs of your vids, the honesty in your educational parts, and the lovely editing including your cats. The cantera opal seem to be the ones that were the prettiest in my opinion, and congrats to all the winners.

Just started learning about the world of stone cutting! Had to binge a few of your videos because they are so fascinating. That arrowhead is amazing and I would love to enter the giveaway. Man i love Mexican fire opal! I've wanted to travel to Queretaro with my girlfriends family so we can all experience searching for it and finally experience opal in person. Truly jealous of the beautiful stones you get to work with and im thankful you share them with us. Miss ya Uncle

@@PulitzerOpal I am an animal lover, but cats are my spirit animals, LOL. I actually have three black cats, and a gray tabby, plus six neighborhood semi-feral kitties that I care for, including spaying and neutering all of them. I also had an orange tabby girl, Cinnamon, who I lost last year, so I'm partial to orange tabbies. 🐈😺 Thanks again for the great content, and take care.

The cantera opal might not be as classically pretty as other opals, but it's so interesting to look at. I love how the arrowhead turned out. So fun seeing your kitty's personalities!

Me and my mom recently met up and went through some opal fragments we got from a paydirt buckrt. Nothing too big but seeing her face as she looked for them was the best. Amazing pieces.

Oh my goodness. I must say. This is my first time ever seeing your channel and my oh my. You have it all. Funny commentary I laughed so much at the old gummy worm covered in sand part so much that I had to rewind the video because I was laughing so much. That fire Opal is amazing! I have a 6 carat fire Opal with great play of colours but it is nowhere as vibrant an orange as that one! Thanks so much! You have educated me about opals, one of my two favourite gemstones (Pearl being the other one).

That arrow head is amazing! I've been wearing a boulder opal pendant I got in Cairns, Queensland in 2019. It's one of my favourites 😃 I'll tell ya though, that fire opal would make an amazing pendant!

We have fire opal here in southern California. It varies from a honey sort of amber to a deep cherry red. The rhyolite associated with it is a maroon color, and I've never found any with a play of color, but I have heard it exists. I LOVE your new kitty toy!

Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Never thought of napping my Australian fire opal! Amazing 👏! I learned napping from my lapidarist father when I was I was but a pebble pup. Watching this video also brought back good memories of napping arrow heads with my Dad. 😊

That was really insightful thanks. From the beginning I was thinking this looks like a lot of Ethiopian opal that I have played with but then you went on to educate me. Hi,Paco,Touchy,Hopper.great video, on the arrowhead i can imagine learning how to knotch the tail into the opal you lost a few.That looks like the hardest part.The very first stone i tryed to set was a faceted fire opal,cracked the top right off that sucker.I had no idea that it was that soft.Thanks and as always have fun!🙂

@@PulitzerOpal yes Tom I just dont know any better.Im a self taught jeweler and i do a lot of reading.A lot happened with this being my first stone.The gentleman who wrote the book mentioned that i should prepare to break a few stones along the way,its a right of passage type of thing,i think. So i chipped the first stone i tryed to set. Gotta get it out of the way.I still have the stone,its a 6 ct. Cherry red fire opal with a little play of color.I keep it as a reminder that this too shall pass.oh and i may have miss spoke when i said that opal was soft i think the real problem is that it has certain planes of growth that was the problem.Maybe someone can let me know.

I wish you mentioned the Oregon fire opal from juniper mountain too, it doesn't get much word of mouth. Wonderful arrowhead! Also, I think the opal in matix cabs are really neat. Good blend of a specimen piece and polished stone.
