Another tip if youre looking for one. When you couple up your trailer, do it with the engine off. If you do it with the engine on, you risk blowing some fuses. The last thing you need is to have no lights in a pitch black field

I was just talking to an old army buddy. When he left the army, he was a trucker and loved it. He even went and bought his own truck, and after 30-odd years, he's sick of it. Another old army buddy went into trucking, but after a short time, he trained truckers probably better. I'm not sure?

I deliver the burgers 🍔 and fries 🍟 to a large American fast food chain with a big golden M. We get £20.72 an hour plus £54 a day weekend premium. I work PM shifts, 8-10 hour days, home to bed every night. We have guys (and a girl) doing Scotland runs tramping in a secure yard on £60-£75K a year. I'm not interested in that. I'm on course for about £51K this tax year. That will do for me. We drive full trailers, urban trailers and a handful of rigids, all refrigerated. Not every HGV job means 90 hour weeks but you could do if you wanted. Actually, they wouldn't allow it but you get my drift. See you on the M62 👍

The Transport Industry is rubbish. Over regulated and under paid! Iv been trucking nearly 2 years and been doing 32tonne tipper work for the last year. It's good money but that's on a 55+hr week. When u divide 50k by the amount of hrs u put in it's a shite wage. Luckily iv just been offered my old job back in maintenance which works out the same annually as I'm on now but for a 37.5hr week lol my advise to people avoid hgv if u want a life, and not having to start work early! There's no 8-4/9-5 jobs in this industry that pays what ure worth. Too much risk and not alot of reward unfortunately

Depends how far away you are really, you would be tramping all week so the lorry is your home, so you would only drive to work at the start of the week and home at the end of the week. I would travel up to 2 hours for a tramping job that paid decent money if I was stuck. Currently my travel time to a local non tramping job home every night is 1 hour a day so over a 5 day week that's 5 hours, a tramping job 2 hours away my weekly travel time would be 4 hours. Its another way of looking at it. I wouldn't rule it out.

50k really? so that puts you in the higher UK tax bracket of 40%? even if you are just under the threshold you are still paying ridiculous tax and national insurance, and work out your hourly rate? what is your true net income per hour? for one of the most unhealthiest jobs in the UK? Now a trade or profession where you make that gross figure for say 30, 40 hours per week that is ok but we really need to stop this pretence, the job is and conditions are deplorable and the government and business owners know this, drivers need to fight for better conditions not enable it.
