If Maintaining means keeping up on in regular intervals, does maintenancing mean like when my parents check their oil after the engine starts knocking and then add 3 quarts to bring the level up into the safe range? The worst part is that my dad is a diesel mechanic by trade and has been for 40 years…

My brother used to build houses in developments, they would let people move into the houses as they finished them…it’s amazing how much grief he’d get as he was doing the next house. It’s like the idiots expected him to build without a single hammer sound….the first three or four they could do in 5-6 weeks the last few would take 8-10 because they’d only be able work 8 to 4 instead of 6 to 8 like they’d do the first ones…. Do you suppose that lady knows where the road right of way ends? May not be her property line. It usually goes beyond what you think is your property line. You may pay taxes on it but you don't control it when the road needs widening.

@@CaseyLaDelle We had some people discover that the hard way last fall when the city had a meeting regarding putting sidewalks along the street I'm on. My wood fence (noise barrier) got moved back 8' from the curb edge for the clear view triangle during the inspection, and now there are all kinds of upset people that have fences and hedges right tight to the curb that will have to be moved back 5 1/2 feet for the new sidewalk. The city owns approximately 6' of the land beside my house that I've always known about, but I keep it clean, mowed and watered because I don't want it to look shi**y like so many others do.

57WillysCJ - You only pay taxes on the actual property that you own, but often people believe their property goes to roadway edge which it rarely does.
@57WillysCJ
@57WillysCJ Жыл бұрын
@@JohnHallgren I have a street in the front and an alley in the back. Property is at the edge of both. There are set backs front and back which allows the city to expand if needed, it also allows them to pile snow 8 feet high in the winter. It also cuts back how much yard you can fence. Many ignore those setbacks when they plant shrubs and trees. They will pay for the property if they widen the street but you can't stop them because of it and when the street is widened, it has a new set back. Each state and city might be somewhat different, but basically all the same. It's why I would never buy in a section that is increasing in size. It's why in some cities there is no front yard any more.

A road grader is an amazingly capable machine, and a good operator is a sight to behold. As for the karens, as long as the gravel stays in the right-of-way (easement), then they've got nothing to complain about (but they will anyway). I don't know if that's a public road or a private/HOA road, but either way, there should be some kind of easement.

It’ll take some time for me to tell the story, but I’ve got a much crazier story of someone interfering with road maintenance than the lady in this video. I live on a rural gravel road that the state maintains very minimally. They’re supposed gravel it twice a year, but they usually show up every 9 months or so with a bit of gravel and that’s all they do. No other maintenance. So I have to do the rest, and my family has always done it for years. I almost always even have to do the snow plowing on it too. I grade it with my tractor and clean the drains and ditches and cut the trees that fall on it often also. It’s a lot of work, but I don’t mind much because my family and I drive on it every day. There are only 4 houses on the entire 1.5 mile road, and I’m at the end. The other neighbors have no farm equipment to work on it, but they wont even pick up a stick in the road anyway, let alone clean a ditch/drain or fill a pothole. I literally clean the drains in front of their houses and they never offer any help. One day, a certain neighbor got enraged at me for using my tractor grader blade to re-open a ditch on the lower side of the road that had gotten filled in by a recent load of gravel the state had dumped on the road. He said there was never a ditch there, and it wasn’t necessary, and I was just destroying the road. He filled it back in with a shovel, parked his cars on it so I couldn’t get to it, and CALLED THE POLICE on me.🤦‍♂️ They came and were mostly just confused, did nothing for an hour, and left. They said they didn’t understand why someone would be upset that other people were fixing the road that THEY GET BENEFIT FROM TOO lol. Well, it’s not something really worth fighting over constantly for me, so I just left it alone. The first time it rained hard, the water ran down that side of the road until it cut its own path down the side of the road and over the hillside, exactly where I had dug the ditch. He went and bought an old dilapidated tractor with a little blade on the back, and he used it to fill the ditch back in again, and that process has repeated about 10 times now since that day.🤯 Mind you, in the 10+ years he lived there before this, he had NEVER ONCE done any type of work on this road he drives on everyday, and always watched me do it without any acknowledgement at all. When it rains hard and it opens back up, he comes out, fills that one 30ft. ditch in, picks the blade up, and goes back home up his driveway without touching any of the rest of the entire road with it. I laugh every single time I see it raining hard and water rushing down that spot cause I know he’ll have to fill it again. People. Are. Crazy. 😂

The only thing that I have to maintain my driveway with is a box blade and a JD tractor. You seem to have a lot of machines at your disposal to maintain yours. I never understood where my gravel kept disappearing to until a friend explained to me that when you drive on it it rubs together and turns to powder. After I thought about it I guess it makes sense. I have taken his advice and bought smaller size gravel also, it seems to last longer for some reason which I don't understand because it looks as though it would grind up quicker. Life has its mysteries. All together I have put 150 tons of gravel on my 100 yard driveway and a small parking lot over the last 35 years. It should be to China by now and it could use another 20 tons right now.

@@CaseyLaDelle That's putting it diplomatically. As I recall, the crew doing it were amateurs.

@@guygrotke8059 there’s nothing diplomatic about that. These are NOT county roads, and the county does NOT maintain them.

@@CaseyLaDelle One of the first of your videos I watched was complaining about the crew that used to maintain your road. They were leaving big holes that would fill with rain water, not crowning the road, etc. I just meant this video was more diplomatic than that one. But maybe that was a different house?

Don't forget the Vicious Cursing of all the Ham-Handed Equipment Operators that drop large, heavy, sharp-edged rocks from 6 feet above your truck bed putting HUGE dents and gouges into the walls and bed along with shock-loading the suspension and tires... And then there are the ones that drop them from to high up AND off center as well so not only are they trying to break the bed, suspension and tires, but flip the truck over too... And unfortunately, as much as they deserve it, it's still Illegal to tent-peg them with their own excavators/bucket loaders... No, I wasn't a Construction Truck Driver (I drove the big Tractor Trailers you see backed up to Lowes or WalMart) but my father drove Dump Truck for 5 years and had his rig flipped twice in one month (by the same front end loader idiot too, he got fired after the 2nd time because it was fire him or dad starts breaking his Bosses heads and dad was a BIG guy and VERY scary when hes Pissed - the gravel pit company Insurance paid for the repairs both times of course)...
