Did head studs on my 12 valve and the head stud would push the gasket so it wasn't sitting flat and leaked oil(exact same spot as your currently dealing with) just gotta make 2000% sure that it's seated and not pushed off. Super frustrating but it took some time and it finally seated. Figure I'd throw it out there!

Just did a full frame up restore on my 1st gen, top to bottom new gaskets in my 12v and now I have been fighting oil leaks left and right. I definitely feel your pain

The 12 valves a beast how can you hate it? The sound, power, everything... yours is having problems. You’ll get it fixed up. Yeah. Shit does happen with em. Did a massive burnout in my 97 (the 97 in my KZbin is year of my first truck (and vehicle) which is a 97 ram 2500 12 valve) it’s making 1000hp twin turbo set up now. Did a massive burnout in it and it blew. Took it back got it back up. Not a bad thing happened which is good... what I have to say is... don’t keep a 12 valves rpm all the way for too long...

Had the same problem on my 12v and I also suspected head gasket. Fixed it with oring hamilton head and 625's. No more oil coming up through stock head and arp4202.

Well tune her up right and not keep your foot in her longer than you have to. My step dad raced 12 valves cummins for many years and didn't have the problems you do, it's not always the engine as much as it is the operator!!! 12 valves are faithful as long as u give em the chance and set them up right from the get go!!!! Do more research!!! No one knows everything, and can always learn something new, no matter how long u been around it or apart of it!!! GOD Bless

It’s the gasket not the stud. Every time I do them, I put a small amount of grease in the grove of gasket to make sure the gasket stays perfect on the valve cover.

Greg take the stud nut off and put a copper washer under and try and seal it with that. Or even a copper washer with a stock head bolt from the other 12v.

Dosen't bds make custom aluminum valve covers that use o ring gaskets that eliminate leaking. Instead of the stock valve.cover that just crushes a rubber seal.

Greg, for ANY engine oil leak that your not sure where it’s coming from, just go to or call and order from any Cummins location a bottle or 2 of engine oil dye. The bottles treat up to 10 gallons of oil and glow bright green or orange depending on the type of UV glasses you buy. Just run the truck for a good 30-45mins and then pull it into your shop and turn off all lights, then with a UV flashlight and UV glasses you can search the oil leak down accurately every time! Oh, if you think your pushing too much boost, fire ring that pig and let eat! SEND THAT BITCH!
