I think I was lucky enough to not have been raised in a family that thinks this way so that now I can see right through others' idiocy . When I already have to deal with most people who perceive me as unconnected to my family origins, it is scaring me now that they are now seemingly trying to make this written in stone. I think race can and does affect you as a mixed kid and as a mixed adult, but I couldn't imagine that a curriculum in school could help the way mixed kids are perceived by other kids at school. If anything, it would just create more misunderstanding and more ignorant comments about kid's families as the CRT race conversation isn't truly nuanced enough to capture or express mixed people's families or experiences. All the current narrative tends to deal in mostly binaristic racial terms and mixed people are either left out or spoken about in ways that are vastly oversimplifying generalities that actually erase most mixed people. And don't get me started on when they separate identities into rooms to have race discussions. Mixed people cannot fit cleanly into either "the white room" OR "the BiPoC room"!

This country needs a truth and reconciliation commission like SA did. People are hearing about Tulsa for the first time this year or when Watchman came out. The effects of racism on peoples parents and grandparents need to be thought in order to understand each other. Because we’re all coming in with missing information trying to scold one another and we’re talking past each other. So yeah, we need to fully tell the story, truthfully, of this country.

A friend of mine shared a meme, which I wish I could share now, about how bad it was to treat people the same regardless of their skin color, because I kid you not, it said you don't treat people as individuals if you DON'T treat them differently because of their skin color. The gymnastics required to go that far are terrifying. So I told her I believe in what MLK Jr said, about judging people based on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin, and she called that racist. I'm sure she'd call YOU racist, for not thinking the way she thinks you should, based on your skin color.

Ya know what's really funny? The attributes they associate with "whiteness." One such attribute is: Being on time for work. Apparently, they didn't know me in my late teens and mid to late 20's. Surprisingly I managed to keep the same job. Thankfully, I was able to transfer to another location when I needed to move to another state when I moved in with my brother (long story.) But, at that time. I was a little older and wiser and tried my best to get there on time.

I showed it to a black friend of mine, who has more of those traits than I do and she was LIVID. It was such a racist thing to say! Blaming Hegel seems a bit misguided to me. Hegel is really not an enemy of objective truth and reason. Hegel believes in god, and objective morality, and that the german prussian state he lieves in has the best possible system of government; this is really not a postmodernist. There is a bit of historical relativism in Hegel but it is a quite reasonable amount. With Marx we start the slightly nonsensical bullshit of criticizing the notion of objective morality, while still pushing a very clear moral agenda. But with Marx we still have completely objective truth, and the system isn't overtly self-contradictory. I think only with the Frankfurt school and with Foucault does the real big mental gymnastics begin where you deny the existence of objective truth while constantly proclaiming one objective truth after the other. But I'm not an expert on the Frankfurt school of Foucault.

Or, do you mean something else? Thanks.

I was an outcast in school. Terribly isolated and abused. I saw that an easy way to become popular was by picking on the outcasts, but I would never do it because once I had been on the receiving end of evil, I knew how evil it was and would not do it to other people. Racism should be the same way. Once you are the victim of racism and know how evil it is, you should know better than to become racist yourself.

Another perspective on CRT and social justice is that justice is only meaningful for conscious entities. Although they have shared experience, social identities are ultimately just classifications of types of people. A class of people is not an entity. There's no collective consciousness emergent from social identities. There is no such thing as justice for a category of people. You don't need a group conflict model to end racism.

Thank you for your intellectual analysis and offering the background of this concept. As an older white woman raised in a small town in Oklahoma by parents who lived through the Depression and WWII, I grew up with one gauge of people: Are they good folks? 😊 Meaning are they kind, hard working, fair-minded and open to connecting with me? (Indeed-“the content of their character.”) After moving out through my education and career to connect with many people of different backgrounds, that is still my touchstone. It heals my heart to hear you. Truly. The ugliness being spewed and the hypocrisy of so many today is so disheartening. First: CRT, is not and should not be rooted in moral relativism any assertion that it is or should be, confirms two things 1. she does and you do not understand moral relativism, and 2. she does not and you do not understand CRT. Second: CRT does not deal with the anti-racist framework because that framework is concerned mainly with individual racism, CRT focuses on systemic racism. It is like asking a baseball player to also be good in golf, some are, some are not but it does not take away from their primary purpose or talent. Bottom line this person illustrates the saying that - " a little knowledge is dangerous". She needs to dig deeper, not wider, she is a mile wide, but sadly only 1 inch deep.

if being without CRT means having freedom of thought and self expression but at the same time mutual respect for all groups of people, what about those who are unaware of racism/the disrespectful actions they do to others? Is someone doing harm if they are not even aware of the harm they are doing? We can't undo racism. It exists. But we can definitely change the way we frame racism. To understand racism though is to understand the history of slavery, colonialism and white supremacy. I think this is where CRT comes into the picture? idk

Love your words and etiquette. I tell my wife this same thing all of the time, the more the media draws lines in the sand, the more lines there are in the sand. Its common sense to me that if you preach BLM and CRT, then the problem only perpetuates. People that are racists are just ignorant idiots (on either side). Why can't we just ignore them and move society along? Any good parent can attest to this situation; your child starts pitching a fit and you run right to it to find nothing is really wrong, you leave and the child does it again. What you have done is just taught that child that screaming will gain results. So when the time comes that you see them pitch a fit for no reason again and ignore them, typically they will throw a fit louder, then give up. Why can't the same approach be taken towards racisim? Stop feeding into their hate. Ignore it and let it finally die.

Kimi, I hope you never feel discouraged to produce more of these videos. I thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts on CRT. I LOVE that you've touched on moral relativism and the concept of absolute truth. People may not always be literate in philosophy or see the importance of studying philosophy when the reality is, everyone's worldview whether they are an atheist, Christian, freethinker, liberal, or conservative are shaped by their own philosophies. When we study philosophy we then can deconstruct our beliefs and see if it all makes sense. What is the foundation of our belief in injustice? Race? Equality? Anyway, I'm not black nor American, but this topic has always baffled me. A lot of my impressions on CRT chime with yours and it's nice to see that someone of African descent shares the same views.
